ARCHIVED Glutened Issues
Amyleigh0007 replied to toddzgrrl02's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My son doesn't really have outward symptoms either. He had leg cramps before dx and they have gone away with the gluten free diet. Now if he has leg cramps I assume he has been contaminated. When your stepdaughter stays with you could you all eat gluten free? That way there is no issue of cross contamination. My entire family is gluten free even though... -
ARCHIVED Does Anyone Have A Recipe For Chicken Noodle Soup?
Amyleigh0007 posted a topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
My son really misses Campbell's chicken noodle soup. Does anyone have a recipe? -
ARCHIVED The Popular Question...
Amyleigh0007 replied to TammyK's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
My son has both a wheat allergy (confirmed with a bloodtest) and Celiac Disease (confirmed with a bloodtest and biopsy), so it is possible to have both. -
ARCHIVED Newbie Here - Negative Blood Work
Amyleigh0007 replied to Colinsmom's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I also had negative bloodwork. It's very frustrating. My symptoms also got worse with the birth of my daughter 11 months ago. My doctor blew me off when the test came back negative so I am seeing an allergist next month to be tested for food allergies. I do believe that if I don't have full blown Celiac then I do have gluten intolerance, wheat allergy... -
ARCHIVED Is This Normal?
Amyleigh0007 replied to ljb's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I knew my son was getting better because of his dramatic weight gain. He has gained 7 pounds in almost 4 months. Before he was dx he only gained one pound from March 2007-March 2008 (and the doctor did not think this was abnormal). -
ARCHIVED Parents With Celiac
Amyleigh0007 replied to a topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
We are keeping our 10 month old daughter gluten free. To me, it's not worth the risk of her possibly getting ill. It's also easier if the entire family is gluten free. I am aware she will consume gluten at some point but, like ShayFL said, it will be small amounts here and there. If she doesn't develop a taste for "real" cookies, cakes, bread, and pasta... -
ARCHIVED I Have Celiac, Keep My Baby gluten-free Until 1 Yr. Old?
Amyleigh0007 replied to CeliacMommy73's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
We are keeping our 10 month old gluten free, along with the rest of the family. Not only is it more convenient for our family (no CC issues, only one meal to cook) but I don't want her to go through the same health issues our son did. I would rather keep her healthy but not know for sure if she has Celiac then "experiment" with her health and have her possibly... -

ARCHIVED My Three Year Old
Amyleigh0007 replied to RachP's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Your daughters eating habits sound a lot like my sons. When he was about 3 he would go all day only eating a bite of a cracker. He refused to eat. We begged him. He finally got up to eating about 10 foods but very small portions, only a bite or two of this and that. This went on for 5 years. He was diagnosed in March and since then has been eating us... -
ARCHIVED Skeptical Mom Trying To Cope
Amyleigh0007 replied to Paige'sMom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My 8-year-old son was very picky too. He had his 10 foods that he would eat and that was it. No fruit, no veggies, no meat except for hot dogs and chicken nuggets (if you call that meat). He was dx in March with Celiac and since starting the gluten free diet has gained 7 pounds. He is much, much stronger and plays on a baseball team. He is getting thigh... -
ARCHIVED Celiac With Negative Test Results?
Amyleigh0007 replied to Marleigh's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
My Celiac blood tests were negative but I know I have some sort of gluten problem. If it's not Celiac then it's an allergy or intolerance. I did go gluten free when my son was diagnosed in March (and felt great!) and I think that's why my tests were negative (I didn't know to stay on gluten). My doctor didn't want to hear that. He basically said that... -
ARCHIVED New Here
Amyleigh0007 replied to cymrudenver's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I don't think it's necessry to cook two dinners. That is waaay too much work for you. Tinkyada pasta is the best (in my family's opinion) and it's made from rice. We eat a lot of cheeseburgers (bunless) with Ore-Ida fast food fries and BBQ chicken with salad . Tonight we had pork steaks and sweet potatoes. I am not a great cook by a long shot and my... -
ARCHIVED Has Anyone Read This Book?
Amyleigh0007 posted a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Has anyone read The Irritable Bowel Syndrome Solution by Dr. Stephen Wangen? If so, what did you think of his food allergy theory? I have IBS and when my son was dx with Celiac I thought that was my answer too. My tests were negative. My son also has many food allergies. After reading this book I am certain my IBS symptoms are due to food allergies.... -
ARCHIVED Celiac Still Possible?
Amyleigh0007 replied to symptomax's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
What about food allergies? Have you been tested? My son has Celiac and many food allergies. He doesn't have outward reactions (swelling/hives) when he eats the food he is allergic to. It's all internal, he actually gets hives and rashes in his esphagus. -
ARCHIVED Eosinophilic Esophagus
Amyleigh0007 replied to FlyGirl's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I am being tested for food allergies and my doctor told me to stop taking my allergy meds (Claritin D) one week before the tests. It can mess with the results. I know that info is too late for you but it might help someone else. -
ARCHIVED Im New And Need Help For My Son..
Amyleigh0007 replied to heidi111's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Get him a crockpot! Crockpot cooking is so easy! Get a large one and they have leftovers for lunch the next day. Just throw in some chicken breasts and BBQ sauce (Sweet Baby Rays is gluten free and yummy) and cook on low for 7 hours. There is nothing easier than that! Walmat's store brand, Great Value, states Gluten-Free on all products that are... -
I too have suffered for years. I was told I had IBS when I was 14 and that was it. My doctor blew me off. I am now 33 and still suffering. My young son was dx with Celiac Disease and many food allergies including wheat, egg whites, peanuts, corn, and soy a few months ago. It was like a light bulb went off. Maybe that's what I have too!! I had the blood...

ARCHIVED The "best" Books And Cookbooks
Amyleigh0007 replied to sixdogssixcats's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I will have to respectfully disagree with blueyedtiger about Danna Korn's book Living Gluten Free for Dummies. I loved it and thought it was extremely helpful in those first few weeks. It is written in simple language that anyone can understand. True, you can find most of the info online but having it all in book form is much easier and less time consuming... -
ARCHIVED 3yo Daughter Diagnosed Last Week ... What To Do About Meals?
Amyleigh0007 replied to sixdogssixcats's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My family has been gluten free for 3 months now. It does get easier but the first month or so is really, really rough. I bought Living Gluten Free For Dummies by Danna Korn (I'm not sure if that's how you spell her first name) and it was a life saver. I love the way she writes. I use my crockpot a lot. Tonight I threw in skinless chicken breasts and... -
ARCHIVED Symptoms?
Amyleigh0007 replied to Mickide's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My son also had constipation. He would go maybe 2 times a week and it was a nightmare. Now that he has been gluten free for 3 months he goes almost every day with no problems. -
ARCHIVED Prepping For Scope
Amyleigh0007 replied to care34us's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Some of you might think this is bad but we did not tell our 8-year-old that he was getting a scope when we went. We told him he was going to the doctor but that was pretty much it. My son is a worrier and he would have spent weeks upset and stressed and we didn't want to put him through that. We told him as we were waiting to see the doctor. He wasn't... -
ARCHIVED Frustrated Mom
Amyleigh0007 replied to glutenfreegirl's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My son is 8 and has been gluten free for 3 months. He is very small for his age and it bothers him. He has gained 3 pounds and that is motivating him to eat right. He is realizing that if he stays off gluten that he will contine to gain weight and catch up with his friends. Maybe when your son has a noticable weight/height gain he will be more motivated... -
ARCHIVED What Are Symptoms In Older Children?
Amyleigh0007 replied to slmprofesseur's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
The most obvious symptom my 8-year-old son had was slow growth. He was 43 pounds when he was diagnosed in late March. I'm not sure of his height but he was a full head shorter then most of the kids in his class. He also had leg cramps at night. When I took him in for his yearly checkup in early March and found out that he had only gained one pound in... -
ARCHIVED Just Had To Share This!
Amyleigh0007 replied to Aleshia's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
That is great news! I know how happy you feel. My son has been gluten-free for 3 months and has gained 3 pounds. He only gained 1 pound from March 07-March 08 (before he was gluten-free). His doctor was also not concerned that he had only gained one pound in one year. Her explanation for his lack of weight gain was that my husband and I are both small... -
ARCHIVED In A Food Rut, Need Help Out
Amyleigh0007 replied to EmmaQ's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My Celiac son loves Ore-Ida fast food french fries and tater tots. He also likes BBQ sauce (Sweet Baby Rays) and skinless, boneless chicken breasts cooked in the crock pot. Cheeseburgers are good too. He never did like bread or buns so he eats them without a bun. He also likes Stax chips from Frito Lay.
