  1. I have just discovered my biggest fear!!! I have been getting gluten from a b-complex vitamin and didn't realize it. Because of test and surgery, I had been off of the vitamins for the bigger portion of the last 4 weeks. When I returned home Wednesday (a week ago) I started back on the vitamins. Yesterday I discovered my blunder. First I want to kick...
  2. Hey Wilem, Just another opinion. I was diagnosed 4 weeks ago and have been gluten free since. I had problems with constipation before and after diagnosis. Jennifer
  3. Oh my gosh!!! I'm flipping out here - Celiac-Mommy!!! You can really eat 2000 calories and lose weight? That is to die for!!! If I do a 1200 diet 5 days a week and 1400 calories 2 days a week - I might lose 2 pounds a week. That is if I exercise!!!! It is soooo amazing to me how our bodies can be so different. I guess I'm a little older than you...
  4. Hey gluten-free Warrior, My family chooses to continue eating gluten, my child is 11 years old and has a very good understanding of the rules. There are many meals you can cook to feed the entire family and they will never know they are eating gluten free. Many recipes can be gluten free just by changing a few ingredients or purchasing different brands...
  5. These are the questions I've been asking!!! I went gluten free after diagnosis 4 weeks ago. Before diagnosis I had no noteable symptoms that I could attribute to celiac (they were there, but they could have been attributed to something else also). I have been gluten free for 4 weeks with only one reaction. I have watched my diet and I am pretty sure I...
  6. I don't have answers to your questions, more like I'm going to jump on the band wagon. I have a theory because I can't seem to get answers to those questions. From what I have read, after you have gone gluten free the symptoms will get worse over time when you do get 'glutened." I am be totally wrong in my theory - but I believe it is because your...
  7. Okay, I've just got to weigh in on this issue (no pun intended). I started a 1200 calorie diet a week before I found out I was celiac. Once I found out I was celiac I was determined I was not going to let this get me down. I even found it was an advantage. In the past there were so many temptations and now they are poison to me. Helps me make better...
  8. Hey CeliacAlli, I do not have personal experience with celiac and puberty, but I have experienced both at different times. My best advise is to enjoy what life you have before you start your period. Every girl is different, you may follow the norm for the females in your family, but you may also be the exception to that rule. With being a female - all...
  9. Hi DebbieAnne, It is all a mind set. My big issues have always been portion control. I find it easier to diet when attending a support group (like weight watchers) and having accountability. If you have stopped going, get back involved. My biggest advantage (or at least I'm telling myself) of being celiac is the cheating part. Now when I see foods...
  10. Great!!! I was going to test the stuff in the morning. Nice to know I won't have to suffer any consequences. I just knew someone around here would know!!! Jennifer
  11. After discussing genetic test with my son, he has agreed (willingly) to be tested but prefers to wait a little while. Not sure what that means, but I think he wants to know just as much as I do. So I am going to give it some time and then push the issue. By then I should have a better handle on my eating as well. Jennifer
  12. Needing a little help here. I have just purchased Arrowhead Milles Puffed Rice cereal. The only ingredient listed is "puffed whole grain brown rice." I felt really good about this product when I purchased it but now I'm second guessing myself. The package doesn't say gluten free but I think it is. But then the "whole grain" on the side really bothers...
  13. So what is involved in genetic testing? Is it just a blood test? It is amazing to me that a restaurant can be more aware of gluten free food than a hospital!! I will certainly have my own food from home while in the hospital. At least it is for only one day (or that is the plan). Thanks again for the advise!!! Jennifer
  14. Thanks CCR, Your information was exactly what I was looking for. Not that I look forward to the results of eating gluten, but I like to know what I'm in for. Half of my battle is know what to expect!!! My son has only had the blood test. He has no signs at this point. I have battled on having him tested to see if he has the gene. At this point...
  15. Welcome To Our World!!! Here is what I have found helpful. This is a link to a list of safe gluten free ingredients. https://www.celiac.com/articles/181/1/Safe-...ents/Page1.html This is a link to the list of unsafe gluten free ingredients. https://www.celiac.com/articles/182/1/Unsaf...ents/Page1.html You might need to cut and paste to...
  16. No guilt is the best route. Each family will be different. I told my family (husband and son) they were on their own!!! If they choose to eat gluten I don't have a problem with it - I'm not cooking/baking it!! WOW, was I surprised at my family. We have all pitched in with the changes!!! The last three nights of meals have been completely gluten...
  17. Jelly Bean jelly beans are gluten free. Their website states "Yes they are. We do not use dairy products, wheat, barley, rye, or oats in Sugar-Free Jelly Belly beans or sugar-free Confections by Jelly Belly. The modified food starch used in our candies is cornstarch." Jennifer
  18. Thanks Beth, my hysterectomy will be the "easier" kind. That of course could change during surgery, but all appears fine and with a little prayer I plan on being good to go in 4 weeks. Fiddle Faddle, I have actually had more cramping in the last couple of days. There is also more details which I won't share for the world (way to my information). ...
  19. Hey Will, I've got to get my two cents worth in!!! I've really worked hard at being more healthy since my new gluten free diet, but I just need some junk food sometimes. These are also items most of your friends would be eating as well. I was soooo glad to hear my all time favorites were gluten-free - Peeps!!!!! Starburst, Jolly Ranchers, Jelly...
  20. I finding out just how wonderful this bunch is!!! I might add that I am 13 days gluten free with only one little mishap. I just worry that I won't recognize the symptoms and don't want to overlook something. Like eat something with gluten and not know it because my symptoms just aren't that bad. I did know it the one time, but will my symptoms always...
  21. Okay, let me clarify. I had the endoscopy because I am anemic - have been for years. That was the only reason the doctor wanted to follow thru with the test while doing the colonoscopy. There were no other red flags. Any problems I was having were so mild I thought nothing of them. Yea, I had gas but who doesn't. I have had issues with constipation...
  22. Thanks a bunch!! I guess there are advantages to living in a larger city. Jennifer
  23. Okay, I'm a newbie here. I usually don't take the time to do the message board thing BUT this seems to be the place for me - so here goes. I was diagnosed with Celiac Sprue and have eaten (attempted to) gluten free for 2 weeks. Here are my issues. I didn't have any major symptoms before I was diagnosed. It was found by chance - I don't doubt the diagnoses...
  24. Hey Joshua, I am not from Lexington but close. I live in Somerset about an hour south of Lexington. I am on my 2nd week of eating gluten free and finding it difficult to find many items in Somerset. I'm planning a trip to Lexington to visit the Whole Foods Market in Lexington Green. Do you eat at restaruants much? Somerset offers very little,...
