  1. I am so excited and I just have to share!!! I did it!!! My very first Thanksgiving and I have a wonderful time and I did not get sick - not even a little belly ache!!! This was no small task. We are talking about 50 people!!! My Mother's family always gets together on Thanksgiving and this is my favorite day out of the year. It just wasn't an...
  2. Hello Teacherwheart, In my experience in varies with the amount of gluten I have ingested. It has hit me as quick as 30 minutes to an hour or even taken up to 24 hours. Best wishes with the gluten free diet!! Jennifer
  3. Keep in mind that your system is unique. I have not been the typical celiac with GI issues. I had constipation before eating gluten free as well as after gluten free. Jennifer
  4. It can be very frustrating finding the right doctor. Keep looking if you are not happy!!! Jennifer
  5. Here is a list of unsafe ingredients to look for. https://www.celiac.com/articles/182/1/Unsaf...ents/Page1.html I printed the list out and keep it with me at all times. Depending on where you live, some stores can be very helpful. Wal-Mart brand items will actually say gluten free on them. Kroger stores have an organic section which will also contain...
  6. I'm not really sure if the celiac is related to the actual misalignment, but I believe the lack of nutrients getting to my nerve cells aided in the pain I was having. The most wonderful new is how informed the chiropractor is about the celiac. I feel like he can be someone I can ask questions and get a reasonable answer. That just means a lot. I...
  7. I did it, I finally did it!!! I have finally found out what is going on with me and a professional that will work with me. After much diligence, I have found a chiropractor that is very imformed about celiac (he won me over) and has found the source of my pain. Okay, I just wasn't sure about going to a chiropractor but I had tried everything else and...
  8. I have a formal diagnosis from blood test and biopsy. It still doesn't change the way people/doctors deal with me. If your doctors care about you, they will be very understanding. My issues in the GYN's office was what lead to my diagnosis of celiac. He was very up front with me that he knew little about the celiac and encouraged me to do lots of reading...
  9. I didn't lose weight at all. I have to work at keeping my weight down. You may need to watch specific foods like dairy while you are healing, but hopefully this is a process for you where you are going to feel much better. Jennifer
  10. I am so sorry you had such a bad experience. Outback is one of the few places I eat and have always been very pleased. I you are not pleased with your waiter I suggest asking for the manager. I have always been pleased with my waiter when I've gone to the Outback and they have been knowledgable enough that I don't even ask for additional help. Jennifer
  11. Hello Dinah, I think the effects of aspartame are bad even if you are not celiac. Aspartame has caused my headaches and once I figured it out I stopped. Not only is this in soft drinks but many other items as well (including gum). Diet Rite contains splenda which does not effect me so becomes an occasional replacement when I just want a soda drink....
  12. Thanks One More Mile and appreciate your words of encouragement. I've already checked out the Igallop, it is certainly a consideration. I have found that working out on the cross trainer every other day helps, but hard to get to the gym just because I'm having pain. Maybe that is a direction for me as well. Is there certain stretches you can do in...
  13. I am ready to scream!!! More disappointment from the doctors. I was initially very impressed with my GI doctor. She even gave me papers to have labwork done in 3 months after being gluten free. I when to the lab just as planned and obviously didn't have a clue why I went to get blood work. I thought it was to have the test run about to see what...
  14. I have been experiencing the fatigue and nerve pain. Being celiac and having very little GI symptoms, I have now realized I'm dealing with other issues. I am waiting on results to see what my vitamin levels are. My ferrin and iron were fine, but now I believe my B12, B1, and/or Vitamin D are a little off. To stop the RLS I am currently taking a Advil...
  15. I get results from a blood test today after 3 months of eating gluten free. I'm anxious to see what my results are!! I have a very difficult time because my system doesn't react to small amounts of gluten. I watch it ever so carefully - but I don't even know when I get those trace amounts so I never know to be more careful. Could this be your problem...
  16. I'm certain I do not have the DDD. I've had a ct scan, mri, and x-rays - nothing shows. Does anyone see a chiropractor? My parents live and breathe by one and actually have had good results. After discussing my doctors visit with Mom she suggested her chiropractor. She was even telling me he works with other things relating to the spine. I told...
  17. For really fast on the go meals I will do the Lean Cuziene Glazed Chicken or the Weight Watchers Sante Fe Beans and Rice. Both are gluten free.
  18. I have had constipation problems since I stopped smoking 15 years ago (well, 15 1/2 but who's counting - me, me ,me). I want immediate results (I'm the impatient type) and fiber just does nothing for me. I now take miralax. It is over the counter now. I normally take a dose before bedtime. If I need to increase or decrease the dosage I just judge the...
  19. Hey Jason, You have a right to eat as well!!! I agree with melmak5, give some options you are comfortable with, you don't even have to make a big deal about it. You have provided choices and they all would be within your comfort zone!! I say you can't go wrong. Let us know how it goes, we all can use pointers from others. Jennifer
  20. Okay, so in the beginning I "thought" I had no symptoms of celiac. Boy was I wrong. Although I did not have any GI issues (call it a gut of steel) I'm now realizing my other issues are related to my celiac. I have really tried to educate myself with lots of reading and this group of people has provided more information than any doctor can give me....
  21. When I was first diagnosed I "thought" I had absolutely no symptoms at all. Now, as I read more I realize there are many things that I can attribute to celiac. Now that I am gluten free my headaches have reduced to almost none, had problems with teeth (3 root canals, sensitive teeth, etc.), and now I'm wondering about other things. Like my hysterectomy...
  22. I called in advance to the dentist office and they actually called the manufacturing company to check on everything. They were wonderful about it!!!! I think the key was giving them time to actually check. Now it is in my file and I will only have to do reminders along the way. Jennifer
  23. Hello CrysK, My information is my opinion - take it as that. I believe your daughter has celiac with the support of the positive blood work. If my child were 4 years old, I would not put him thru the biopsy, but I would begin a gluten free diet immediately. There is a world of information on this website as well as very educated celiacs. Depend on...
  24. The answer to your question: Yes, the more gluten you ingest the more damage you are doing to your insides. You may feel the same (with a little gluten vs a lot of gluten) but the damage can be much more extensive. Threat yourself like an alcoholic!!! You are celiac - any amount of gluten you have is to much. If you accidentially get a "trace" of...
  25. As an ex-smoker (15 years and counting) I encourage you to fight the battle. No one loved their "Viriginia Slim Light Menthol's" better than me. You will find many advantages to a smoke free life. I quit smoking with the aid of patches and recommend it. It takes away the cravings and even helps years down the road. I even carried a patch around with...
