ARCHIVED Bolthouse Farms Smoothies
hermitgirl posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Ok, so was at the store the other day and am noticing major conflicting information on some of the Bolthouse Farms smoothie/juices. Most are clearly labeled gluten free. I noticed on the "green goodnes" bottle it clearly is labeled gluten free, yet it has wheat grass and barley grass as ingredients. According to their website, "Do your beverages contain... -
ARCHIVED Grrr Arrrg
hermitgirl replied to Nicole H.'s topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
The last time I called them, which was in January, they told me that unless it has bacon in it, their ranch dressings are gluten free. It never hurts to call again and check. -
it smelled like a mixture of cocoa, coffee and cinnamon. it smelled WONDERFUL. i am told that whole foods is the only store that physically carries it, but keep hoping it will appear other places as well. i have not tasted it yet though.

ARCHIVED Dating And Celiac
hermitgirl replied to hermitgirl's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
The majority of restaurants have told me this. They say that they can't control the contamination issue during busy times and they highly recommend not visiting during those times. Even the Mexican restaurants have told me this. The only times I have had problems in restaurants where when I did visit during busy times. Really makes socializing difficult... -
ARCHIVED Nasacort Aq
hermitgirl posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Yesterday my Dr perscribed me Nasocort AQ for my allergies. I am glad I called before I got this filled. According to the rep at sanofi aventis, Nasocort AQ is not gluten free. The polysorbate 80 is derived from wheat. They say that processing leaves no "detectable" gluten, but will not say it is gluten free due to having a wheat derivitive. Some feedback... -
It is supposed to be a very nutritious addition from what I understood. Local support group had a gluten free chef come in and she prefers it over ground flax seed. When she passed it around it smelled wonderful. Also supposed to make the best chocolate chip cookies.

ARCHIVED Do You Lose Your Marbles?
hermitgirl replied to raisin's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I know the feeling. I often wish this had been discovered when I was younger, before I got addicted to pizza, breads, and cream of mushroom soup. The worst is when you accidently ingest. I had an incident with Cool Ranch Doritos on Sunday, I had one nibble, and before I realized what I had done, I scarfed the whole bag. Finally starting to feel human today... -
The only fries I am comfortable eating are Chick Fil A's as they clearly state the gluten free status on their website, and I have yet to find a location that does not have a dedicated fryer for the fries. I have gotten sick from other fast food potato products so just stick with what is in writing from the compaines. It is all personal levels of comfort...

ARCHIVED Do You Lose Your Marbles?
hermitgirl replied to raisin's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I hope the damage isn't permanent in my case. I think I lose more marbels with each accidental glutening, I can only hope they come back the longer I stay gluten free..... In regards to the soap on the cheesecake, I have an aunt who is trying to lose weight, and to control her portions she keeps a big salt shaker with her. To prevent her from nibbling more... -
ARCHIVED Labeling Change
hermitgirl posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I am waiting for further information from Paul Mitchell, but wanted to let anyone who may use the Super Clean Light Spray that it is no longer wheat free. If your can has the red spray nozzle, you are safe, if your hairspray can has the white nozzle, it now contains wheat, and is labeled so in the ingredients. I am not sure why they are changing the formulation... -
ARCHIVED Dating And Celiac
hermitgirl replied to hermitgirl's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
The whole eating out in a restuarant can be uncomfortable. Particularly as the ones out here will accomidate, as long as you call ahead and do not dine during busy times. I spent many hours contacting local restaurants for the local gluten free dining guide, and the two things that they all requested where that you call ahead and no dining during busy times... -

ARCHIVED Betty Crocker gluten-free Mixes
hermitgirl replied to purple's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I am beyond jealous of the response you where given. I emailed on Friday morning and this was what the response was. "Thank you for contacting General Mills regarding gluten in General Mills products. It is our goal to help our consumers determine whether or not they can include our products in their diet. To accurately accomplish this, we believe... -
ARCHIVED Dating And Celiac
hermitgirl replied to hermitgirl's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I very much agree with the age part. Being in my early 30's the guys that that I have met in the last few years that are single seem to have regressed back to their party days. I live in an area where the dating pool is pretty sad to start with, so I think for me to find someone with a similar issue in that pool isn't too likely. I think the key is to find... -
ARCHIVED Uncle Julio's Mexican Food?
hermitgirl replied to DallasJayhawk's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
This is a letter I received in December from their Corporate Office: Thank you for inquiring about gluten in our foods. Our Chef suggests choosing fajitas (chicken or beef) with NO marinade, please request it this way. The fajita marinade contains soy. You should also substitute flour tortillas with corn tortillas. Our chips do not contain gluten, but are... -
ARCHIVED Feria Hair Color
hermitgirl replied to raisin's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I am allergic to latex, so I never use those kinds of gloves. Any beauty supply that sells chemicals will have gloves, either latex or vinyl. Being a professional stylist I use gloves a lot, so I use the powder free vinyl. Eliminates the concerns about powder completely. The ingredient I referred to in my last post that many are allergic to: "PPD (... -
ARCHIVED Betty Crocker gluten-free Mixes
hermitgirl replied to purple's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I am beaming at the news. Betty Crocker is a General Mills product. Maybe the response to Rice Chex going gluten free influenced this???? -
ARCHIVED Feria Hair Color
hermitgirl replied to raisin's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
A lot of people are very sensitive to hair color. I have topical reactions to most brands out there, and there is an ingredient in most over the counter and professional colors, which many people are allergic to. There is definitely a difference though between a topical reaction and a glutened issue. I seem to have both. Like the comment was made earlier... -
ARCHIVED Rich Chocolate Ovaltine?
hermitgirl replied to penguin's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
They added the universal disclaimer late last year. I had noticed it shortly after being diagnosed. I really noticed it after I got sick shorly after having some, so not sure if Nestle has taken over the physical manufacturing part yet, to make sure everything is clean and all that. Now I use the Kroger Brand sugar free instant breakfast. Kroger has always... -

ARCHIVED Tomato Products
hermitgirl replied to KarenFe's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
you may want to be careful if there are natural flavorings listed on the can, or several ingredients. i don't buy seasoned canned veggies at all. the only ingredients i have noticed on them tend to be water and whatever the veggie is. sometimes there might be salt, but usually it is only water and the item itself. they are required to list the major allergens... -
