ARCHIVED Complete Recovery?
sugarsue replied to Anthony22's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hello Anthony. My dd is at the beginning of her journey still, she is doing much better but not healed completely yet. Your post however, has me thinking of a story of my past that is not gluten related and I hope you don't mind if I share it with you. My first daughter is a twin and her twin died when he was a month old in the hospital from complications... -
ARCHIVED How Quickly Did Your Symptoms Go Away?
sugarsue replied to Tim86's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
It makes sense that you are only interested in the symptoms that affect you so our experiences are not that helpful I'm sure but here they are anyway to be supportive and participatory.... Regarding dd (age 6) IBS - her bowel and gas issues were much better after a couple of months. Still very sensitive after 6 months and she gets diarrhea very easily... -
Have you had blood tests yet for gluten intolerance or celiac? It reminds me of a few things, I have a friend who can't touch gluten or breaks out in a bad rash where the gluten touches her. My dd (7) gets exczma, itchy skin and itchy bumps (not yet diagnosed as DH) when she eats gluten over a period of time. GOOD LUCK
-
Yes, I would go to a dermatologist. I would try to find one that is recommended by your local celiac group so you will know you are finding one that is familiar with DH, although I would hope they all are but you never know. Regarding the lab's response, I got the same thing from my dd's neurologist and he did not recommend gluten free. Her pedi however...

ARCHIVED My Son's One Year Anniversary!
sugarsue replied to Amyleigh0007's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Contrats on 1 year gluten-free with your son! It's amazing that we could be so afraid and it turns out so good. I am so glad your son was diagnosed and things have turned out so well. You have been such a great help to me and my daughters already too, so I thank you too! We still have a ways to go until 1 year. I look forward to posting how many things... -
I avoided trying the diet for 2 years until we got a positive test for my 6 yr old. Our doctors were suggesting it but I was afraid. I didn't think I could manage it. How could I control all their food and they were ADDICTED to wheat. Now, it seems like the easiest thing in the world and so worth it. You have 4 children and a busy life. As a gluten...

It's my understanding that if you get a Gliadin antibody test positive (IgA or IgG) this means that you are gluten intolerant and should consider yourself at least non-celiac gluten intolerant and should not eat gluten. This is from Steven Wangen's book Healthier Without Wheat. My 6 yr old fell into this category and is much improved after removing gluten...

ARCHIVED Size Difference In Siblings
sugarsue replied to sugarsue's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Sweet celiac/gluten intolerant Parents.... thank you for your responses. I know that I am so happy we have found gluten free, that she is doing so much better, that she feels good, has more energy,, all the wonderful things that are changing. I know if she does not catch up in growth, it will be OK, but it is really great to hear that I am not the only... -

ARCHIVED Feeding Under Weight Kids
sugarsue replied to MammaG's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
First, HUGS to you!! It is hard! I have a rule with my dd that she eat a protein and a veggie or fruit at every meal (3 a day). She does not have to eat a lot, but she must have some of each. I let her pick it and that helps a lot. So I am catering to her in a way but she is getting good food. Then, for snacks, she can eat a lof of whatever she wants... -
ARCHIVED Slow Hair Growth
sugarsue replied to sugarsue's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Thank you for your reply! I look forward to seeing if being gluten free helps her hair! She has been gluten-free for 5 or so months. Also, we just started up the oils (I got her to take 1 coromega a day) so maybe this will help too! s -
ARCHIVED Size Difference In Siblings
sugarsue posted a topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Open Original Shared Link I'm not sure if you will be able to see this picture..... but this is an example of something I worry about. This is a picture of my two girls and a perfect example of what causes me to worry. They are 14 months apart but they are so different in size. My super gluten intolerant dd is the little one. She is doing so well... -
ARCHIVED I'm Starting My 5 Y.o. On A gluten-free Trial
sugarsue replied to horsegirl's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Since it's fairly non-invasive, I would do a celiac panel blood test if you have not already done it and then go gluten free. I have one dd with a positive gluten intolerance test and one with negative. Both are gluren free now and doing amazingly. There is no doubt in my mind that they need to be gluten free. I do struggle sometimes whether they have... -
ARCHIVED Need Crash Course In Asperger's Syndrome
sugarsue replied to Canadian Karen's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Wow, that is amazing that they are doing this. It does sound like they are two kind souls! I would recommend they find a Dan! doctor, if possible in their area. They would be a great local source of support and information. I hope maybe these links might help. A friend of mine at work recommended them. Open Original Shared Link Open Original Shared... -
ARCHIVED Offers Of Food
sugarsue replied to Mother of Jibril's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I think you did great too! I just say "Oh, thanks for asking! We are really allergic to wheat and can't eat it". I find that people understand "allergic to wheat" pretty well and that usually does it. I always love it when it gets into a gluten conversation. I love talking about gluten and it's evil ways , LOL. -
ARCHIVED How Do You Handle "processed On The Same Line As" Food Products?
sugarsue replied to jmjsmomma's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Hi! My 6 yr old is an undiagnosed celiac but diagnosed gluten intolerant and is very sensitive to gluten. If the lines are washed between, I will try the product. But, she has gotten sick. It's kind of hit or miss with her so I am getting more resistance to trying. There are some products that she does fine with so it's hard to make the decision to rule... -
I'm worried about dd7's legs. The dark purple spots where she had her leisons (diagnosed molluscum but I have always wondered if DH since they cleared up after going gluten free) have not all gone away yet and they are getting irritated again. Tonight, her skin is dry and red and painful. This is a common thing that would happen in the past before things...

Does anyone know if slow hair growth can be a sign of celiac? Along with that goes slow to lose teeth and of course slow body growth. I am noticing today that my dd's hair is hardly growing and her hair took forever to grow in as a baby/toddler. I have trimmed my 7 yr old's bangs 3 times and have not had to trim my 6 yr old's bangs at all. Plus she finally...

ARCHIVED Why Is Endoscopy Still "the Gold Standard"?
sugarsue replied to jacflash's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
With all the well informed replies you have already received, my response is probably not even necessary! But I wanted to put in my 2 cents worth which is that we were never give the option of a biosy. I am glad to not have to have made the decision whether to put them through that or not. That said, I wish I knew whether my 7 yr old has DH or not. ... -
We were there too. I thought the pizza was horrible. But I do plan on going back and trying some of the non-pizza options. I think the frozen pizza from Glutano is much better (and cheaper). I didn't realize there were 68 of us!! That is amazing!

ARCHIVED How Soon After Eating Gluten Do You Have Breakouts?
sugarsue replied to tomcallahan's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
I am curious, how do your breakouts appear after being glutened? My daughter (age 7) who we still don't know if she has DH or not, but after going gluten free her skin issues have resolved themselves. However, she still has some marks on her inner thighs that have never gone away (purplish spots where the leisons used to be). We have found that they are... -

ARCHIVED Does This Look Like Dh (pics)
sugarsue replied to curiousgeorge's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
The doc said it was better to let the molluscum resolve on it's own and would only do the "bug juice" if they were not resolving. Hers were mostly on her legs (inner thigh, backs of knees and also her bottom). -
ARCHIVED Does This Look Like Dh (pics)
sugarsue replied to curiousgeorge's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
I went back and looked at your pictures again and this is really exactly what her bumps looked like. She would have pearly bumps too that were typical molluscum. I wonder if she had both. She had huge eruptions though like you say that would be inflamed and blistered like you describe. I guess the big test will be if they come back if she ever eats... -
ARCHIVED Does This Look Like Dh (pics)
sugarsue replied to curiousgeorge's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
CG, this is exactly what my daughter's (age7) bumps looked like. The dermatologist said they were moluscum. However, they only responded well and went away when she went gluten free (cleared up within 2 months). Our dermatologist said he would have recommended a biopsy if she was not a child, but since we were going to do gluten free anyway, he'd forget...
