  1. I've heard a lot of great things about Red Robin and their gluten free menu, but I went a few months ago and this is how my trip went: Me: "Hi, could I please see your gluten free menu?" Waitress: "Oooohh, hmmmm.....let me ask someone...I don't think we have any ga-lu-ten.." Me: "I know you guys have a gluten free menu, so that'd be great if you could...
  2. I live 10 mins from Pismo and I love doughboy's!! AND the pizza is buy one get one free on tuesdays if you go in. The owner is extremely nice, she was a nurse for years and her celiac patients convinced her to add gluten free pizza to her menu. That's so exciting she's able to get it in stores now!
  3. I live on the Central Coast, and i recently found out about a bakery in Atascadero (ca) that has an entire line of gluten free products, and products containing none of the top 8 allergens. I've had my share of gluten free cookies and breads, but when I went to pick some up I was amazed! Especially the cookies- I honestly would not have been able to tell...
  4. For question #1- I was severely anemic before being diagnosed, so I think my occasional paleness had something to do with that, but I'm not totally sure. #2- I'm not sure what each of the numbers represent, but my sister had an abnormal test also that sounded similar, and they're going to do the genetic test next, then if that's positive they'll do the endoscopy...
  5. DO IT. It is easy and painless and it will make all the difference in the world. Going gluten free is not something I was willing to do without proof that I needed too, and my doctor agreed. Plus, if you don't do the biopsy and she doesn't have celiac disease but the doctors assume she does, you could be missing a bigger problem that could have been caught...
  6. A "mostly" gluten free diet is just as bad as a solid gluten diet as far as celiac desease goes, so it'd make sense that you have celiac disease rather than sensitivity since you got better since going completely gluten free. Maybe if you work in the back you could try a doctor's mask, and wash your hands constantly on the job, but overall it sounds like...
  7. I LOVE House! The show, among many other things of course, had definitely affected my decision to become a docter I was also very excited to see us mentioned in this last episode! Especially since the previous show with celiac disease is soooo depressing. I tried to explain to a friend, "Ya know the woman on House that killed her baby? Yeah, that's what...
  8. AWESOME! Thank you so much for the idea! I'll definitely do that this year for thanksgiving
  9. My doctor told me to take Benefiber and I love it. I've never had a problem with it. Anything labelled "gluten-free" should be safe enough for pretty much anyone, so I recommend it.
  10. Yep, you pretty much just summed up celiac disease. That's extremely common. Gluten 101 is wheat, rye, barley, and oats. Also anything malted (distilling can counteract that) and a lot of flour types contain wheat. Potato, rice, konjac, and some other kinds of flour are okay. Most soy sauce contains wheat. And having your gluten free touch food with gluten...
  11. Bummer you can't get antibiotics for your strep throat (which I'm assuming is your throat issue since it goes hand in hand with mono), because that helped me a lot. Besides that just sleep and water like everyone else said! And obviously try really hard not to get anyone else around you sick, because it's really easy to pass it back and forth for months and...
  12. So, you are definitely in the right about what you're doing, and the school should definitely be more accomidating (especially since she's a little kid!). If I were you I would continue fighting for her to be treated right with school lunches, but in the meantime make lunches for her to take to school. And I hope the lunch meat is ok- deli meat sometimes...
  13. I have some things from Trader Joes that says 'Gluten Free' right on the label, but says made in the same plant or may share equipment etc. I talked to an operator at the celiac foundation and she told me that the rule is if it has a certain amount of anything (like 30 parts per million i think) it has to be included in the ingredients, so if it not in...
  14. I know this is an old post- but I love their baked sweet potatoes! They're huge and come with butter and cinnamon and they're super cheap. I haven't actually read that they're gluten free- but I haven't gotten sick, and it's wrapped up seprately so it should be safe.

    ARCHIVED Mimi's Cafe

I recently went to a Mimi's in Bakersfield, Ca and they were AWESOME! My favorite mean pre- dx was the blackened chicken tacos, so I was thrilled to see that I could still have them. I asked the waiter if he knew about gluten free items, he then got a manager who came and looked up everything in the ingredients book. When everything checked out with the tacos...
  16. I saw it too- that's fantastic! We're famous! haha
  17. Doughboy's Pizzeria has a gluten free menu- including gluten free pizza! I've tried the pepperoni on red sauce, and hawaiin on white, and both were very good. I talked to the owner and she said she used to be a nurse in an alternative medicines office, and when she opened the restaurant her celiac patients convinced her to make gluten free pizza. It...
  18. Wow ok that's really interesting. I guess I just hadn't thought much about gluten outside of eating it. Thank you for your reply! I really appreciate your insight. I'll go through my cupboards and gauge my reactions to things. Thank you!
  19. Hey guys! I'm 19 and was just diagnosed Sept. 13. I have the diet pretty much down and I've seen a deitician, but I just read some posts about gluten free lotion and lipstick and toothpaste etc. We can't have gluten on our skin? How does that affect us? It absorbs enough to matter? This is probably pretty basic knowledge, but I'd appreciate any info...
  20. I use La Choy too and haven't had any problems
