  1. I'm not worried about offending anyone; I'm worried about being out all day with nothing to eat!
  2. I'm going to a wedding in a couple of weeks. I've seen people mention that they bring their own food; what kind of things do you bring when you won't have access to a microwave or refrigerator? Sorry for the clueless question, but we have a nice little break room at work so I can pack my gluten-free lunches and then heat them up.
  3. I fluked into my diagnosis, too. I didn't have majorly bad symptoms. I wasn't in the hospital for pain. Just some diarrhea that went on for too long. But after I went gluten-free, I started feeling SO much better. Things I hadn't even realized were bothering me went away. So give it a real try, this gluten-free diet, and see if you don't feel better...
  4. www.wendys.com I guess they think they need some good publicity after that whole "finger in the chili" incident; they're giving away free Frosties all weekend just for asking!
  5. I think I know what I'm having to drink with lunch today!
  6. On the allergen portion of their website, they listed only "dairy." There is "processed dutch cocoa" in it, as well as coffee. Is a Jamocha shake really gluten-free? I miss them.
  7. I don't know if it's a reward, but my gluten-free indulgence is getting kinnickkinnick donuts and having them once a week or so. Too expensive to have any more often than that, but it's nice to know that I can have a donut once in a while, too!
  8. I did, after I was first diagnosed, cheat. Because I didn't understand. I wasn't ready to give up. I thought I would just wait until after my scheduled appointment with a dietician (who, incidentally, was useless; she handed me some pieces of paper with ingredients and recipes. I could have gotten that off the internet. Plus, some of her information...
  9. I think a lot of people (myself included) want to believe that doctors and the medical community are all infallible, when of course they aren't--they are people, just like us. Thanks for the reminder that we need to look out for ourselves. I wonder what I would have eaten, post-birthing my first baby after the cafeteria closed, had I known I was gluten...
  10. Bean-- If your dad has some mental issues, then maybe it isn't easy for him to talk to you. Although my family has been supportive of my food issues, in other areas of my life they do tend to have a "well, you can try, but it won't do you any good" attitude. And I think you'll start feeling better, and be better able to cope with people. And thanks...
  11. Yes, it's great to be feeling better and not exhausted tired all the time, but man, why me? I just want to eat a piece of pizza. Or a bagel. And not those rice flour substitutes, which are just not as good. I just want a piece of Papa Johns pizza. Grr. /rant
  12. It was hard for me to adjust to the gluten-free diet, but I felt sooo much better after doing so, that's there's no point in looking back. I hope that you can soon feel better soon, as well.
  13. Stuffing, last Thanksgiving. That's what made me realize that, yep, I really did have celiac.
  14. I'm just happy not to feel so tired anymore. I had diarrhea, but it wasn't running to the bathroom all the time, it was just that when I DID go, it was loose all the time. But being able to play with my kids and read them a story without getting tired out halfway through is the best part of being gluten-free for me. And my husband doesn't have to say...
  15. Thicker cut deli slice of ham (gluten-free) Slice of deli cut cheese (if not lactose intolerant) Crushed pineapples Put the cheese on the ham, then the pineapples. Roll up and hold together with a toothpick. Cook at 350 for about 10 minutes.
  16. After reading on here that Kid Rock's sidekick Joe C died of celiac, I did some googling. Not only do the websites say he died of celiac, they say that he was taking 60 pills a day. I have some questions about this. How do you die of celiac? I mean, nothing said "Cancer, caused by celiac," they just all said "died of celiac." And 60 pills a day...
  17. celiac3270, Passover hasn't happened yet (it's April 24 this year), so you still have a chance to stock up. (I feel I should point out that I'm not Jewish; I just checked a calendar.)

    ARCHIVED Godfathers

Godfather's Pizza 531 Highway 1 West Iowa City IA 52246 319-354-3312 I don't know the manager's name, but do ask for the manager--I talked to just a regular employee once who had no CLUE what I was talking about.

They do--I have to tell them 24 hours in advance, so they can go out and buy the ingredients.
  20. I remember seeing someone on here who had a reaction to Progresso tomato sauce. I always use Ragu, which is gluten-free, and mighty tasty (in my opinion).
  21. From my (incredibly limited) understanding, celiac isn't always triggered right at birth--it can come from stress, surgery, or what I suspect was my case, pregnancy. So you breastfeed the kid and build up their immunity from those triggers causing celiac disease, among other diseases. (I'm not a lactation consultant, but I'll play one on the internet...
  22. I came down with symptoms, and was diagnosed with celiac, when my now 1-year-old was 4 months old. I'm getting worried about her, now. I kept her off glutens for a year, and am still breastfeeding while introducting glutens, so I'm trying to avoid her getting celiac as well. She is thriving, and walking, and doing all sorts of things babies...

    ARCHIVED Godfathers

I don't know if this is national, but the Godfathers' Pizza in my town (Iowa City, IA) will make a gluten-free personal pizza for me if I give them 24 hours notice. Not too expensive; I think it was like $5.99, and hey! A pizza from a chain restaurant!
  24. I did it without vanilla, too, but I find it adds just the right amount of flavor.
  25. Wow, I didn't realize that Joe C. died of celiac complications! After time, I suspect that "regular" pastas will start tasting weird to your son. My favorite is tinkyada brand brown rice pasta.
