ARCHIVED Cosmetics-shampoos, Etc
minniejack replied to Lisa's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Okay, now that I've been gluten-free for over 4 months, I am revisiting my previous post about mk products. Eye Revitalizer COULD be okay--it does have an oat base extract I do not see anything in the MK men's Bar or TW Cleansing Bar The list given me by MK only gave ingredients that COULD be cross contaminated--looks to be a list to primarily... -
ARCHIVED Universal Studios Florida, Any gluten-free Food There?
minniejack replied to abigail's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
Just found a receipt from Margaritaville which was our favorite gluten-free place. A gluten-free fish sandwich was $10.25 and the huge Volcano Nacho was $10.75. It was big enough to feed 3 people. They even had gluten-free beer. -

Just remembering that it was probably the calamari that he had at Lombardi's that 1st glutened my son. The chef was supposed to come back out to show me the spices, but he forgot and in our hunger so did we...stupid, stupid, stupid. In answer to your question, we did better on the days where we had a huge, late breakfast. I thought their counter choices... -
ARCHIVED Need Oatmeal Help Fast!

I did the same thing, but my husband in all of his infinite wisdom said, "They should be okay." No Bake cookies are his favorite and the only food that I think he has ever actually made in his life (he's 47). He made them; they looked yummy and scrumpdelicious. So...with great worry ate one...then another. My son who is the worst of us ate ... -

I am just pasting what I typed on the disboards so I don't have to retype everything here. If you do club at any of the Loew's resorts, let them know in advance what exactly that you would like to see gluten-free. Even though I had talked with the chef, that isn't who I needed to discuss the club with. You need to specifically tell the concierge a few... -
ARCHIVED Teenager Daughter Finally Sees The Light!
minniejack posted a topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My son, me and my husband all started the gluten-free diet about 7 weeks ago and our lives have changed forever thanks to God. I told my "little starch" girl that the odds were in her favor that she should be gluten-free, too. But teens know it all and so she kept a gluten stash hidden in her bedroom. After about 3 weeks into primarily a... -

ARCHIVED My Pf Changs Experience
minniejack replied to Live2BWell's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
we went to the one in Pittsburgh--my husband had been listening to the Mountaineers in the car while my son and I went on in. When he got to the table he thought they must've given us the wrong menus--"Wow--it's actually laminated" It was delicious and it didn't cost us a small fortune like the Outback which has screwed up 2x now My DS13 had... -
I saw they were looking to franchise, too. Was wondering how difficult it would be to run a bakery if one does not bake? Husband thinks we could make a go of it....might be worth investigating...

I'm from Wheeling and God literally gave me the word Gluten and I googled all of my son's symptoms that he has had for past 3 years and guess what? Gluten. (now try explaining to his local doctor and the guy up at Pittsburgh Children's how you discovered that gluten caused the problems) Similar problems with my husband--my husband was actually put...

We traveled from Wheeling, WV to go to Gluuteny in Shadyside area of Pittsburgh. I thought on their website that the prices seemed steep. Well... $85 later...hey, I'm a cook not a baker. We went home and opened up our bags. The $1.59 cookie? It was huge! I cut it into 4 pieces, so the hubby and kids could take in their lunches. And the brownies...

ARCHIVED Casein-free Replacement For Cheese
minniejack replied to kempy99's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
We bought the Follow your heart mozzarella, montery jack and cheddar today from Whole Foods Market. Price was about $3.69 for an 8 oz block. Not too bad considering my family is currently selling 12 oz blocks of cheese from Amish country for a fundraiser for $5-6. It tastes almost like the real thing without all the problems It melts great, too.... -
ARCHIVED Dairy-free & Soy-free Butter / Margarine
minniejack replied to ive's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I had seen on this site that Ghee is considered casein and gluten free and the other products out there don't even come close to making me happy. So...I found the Ghee at a Whole Foods Market and....it is fantabulous!!! Actually tastes like the real thing. Even though it is made from milk the solids are removed making it casein free--it is even... -

Hi live in Northern West Virginia and love the Thai restuarant in the Strip district--did you ever find out if it was okay--I know they're hard to understand on a good day so I'm afraid to go in even with my celiac restaurant cards -
Got the same exact reply--I posted on the travel section over there. I also asked about the butter to dip the lobster/crab. Do I need to bring my own?

Okay to be fair I thought that I'd try them again after the manager called to tell about how dedicated he is to training. We went in and immediately bought the $100 gift card so that we could get the Christmas special of $20 free. Then we ordered...my son wanted the seared tuna appetizer...we didn't notice the extremely light text on the printed sheets...

We have about $15 left on a gift card and knowing that before gluten-free my husband had gotten sick from what we thought was the scampi cooked in wine--never imagined it was those yummy biscuits--I thought I would email red lobster. Here is the response they sent. Their response just makes you feel all warm and fuzzy inside. Thank you for your...

ARCHIVED Gluten Free Thanksgiving

Thank you so much for pumpkin roll recipe. That's my DS13's favorite and I was agonizing over how to make this! I was terrified that he would try to sneak grandma's gluten dream. This our 1st gluten-free holiday.I used to be the one to bring the rolls to my mom's house--now I'm bringing everything! I just begged my DH if we could skip it and go to... -
ARCHIVED Since Going gluten-free I'm Sleeptalking!
minniejack replied to Bell's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Me and my husband and son all went gluten-free about 3 1/2 weeks ago. My husband is talking in his sleep a LOT. I know the kids said he did this before but I was almost coma like so he could've been doing this all the time. We both are snoring way less and we both can smell/taste better--didn't even realize that I couldn't. Everything tastes so good now... -

We are going to Universal Christmas '08 so I had to make a few inquiries and the following are posts that I also put on the Disboards: Just finished talking with the executive chef at the PBH, Herve--very nice. (PBH is Portofino Bay Hotel) He would need about a 2 week heads up so as to make sure he has all of the ingredients. They even have gluten-free... -
ARCHIVED Can You Actively Heal Villi? Okra Or Wine?
minniejack replied to cs789's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I can't see giving the wine to my 13 year old. Does anyone out there remember Joggin in a Jug? Do you think that would do the trick? Here is a recipe that I still have for it: 4 C. Apple Juice 1 Can frozen grape juice 1/2 c. Apple cider vinegar 2 qt container fill the rest with water -
Being newly gluten-free and on our way from the gastro, we thought we would stop at the Outback. We immediately told our server that we need the gluten-free menu and he became all flustered. Then he came back out and said they had to make a copy it would take a few minutes (turned out to be 10 minutes.) Because I missed seeing the disclaimers about the...

ARCHIVED Gluten-free Pizza In Orlando?
minniejack replied to bbuster's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
We just visited the Pizza Fusion in Gibsonia (Pittsburgh) over the weekend. My DS13 said it was the best pizza he ever had. (I believe a child's body truly knows from birth what is good for them and not--he never liked all the things we pushed on him, but loved all of the veggies) The gluten-free pizza was only 3 more than regular pizza and we...
