ARCHIVED Cross Contamination, Sharing Drinks, Etc. And Trying To Explain This To People?
Shell156 replied to supersquatchy's topic in Super Sensitive People
Hi Steph , Here... I just copied and pasted your first paragraph from your last post? It's in the last sentence! "It can be difficult to get people to take this seriously. Some will believe that it isn't real no matter what you do. I find the best doctors that I can to stand behind my children and I. It helps to find out what medical documentation... -
Safe Wines For Super- Sensitive People?
Shell156 replied to Shell156's topic in Super Sensitive People
Hi everyone, Sheesh! I'm so sorry I took so long to reply . I've been gluten free since 2006, so it's not that. I'm positive I've had a gluten reaction from wine, it's just that ... after being gluten free for so long, I really know what a gluten reaction feels like. It took me a long time to believe it was true and not something else but I don't react... -
ARCHIVED Cross Contamination, Sharing Drinks, Etc. And Trying To Explain This To People?
Shell156 replied to supersquatchy's topic in Super Sensitive People
I know how you feel! I've totally been there! I've found for myself I have to be less scared of telling people what I need to stay well if I act nervous or like I don't "deserve" to say it, people are more likely to not be understanding. Hope things get better! Stephanie, I'm very interested in peer-reviewed studies! It would be so nice to show them... -
ARCHIVED Dating Thoughts And Profile Help
Shell156 replied to powerofpositivethinking's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Aww... I've been there! I love the picnic idea... I did that a lot this summer Anyway, I've online dated before and I agree with what everyone said... I usually just tell them when it comes up naturally, like if they suggest a restaurant and I'll say, " I hope this is okay, but I have a really sensitive gluten allergy... Could we go to x or y place instead... -
ARCHIVED Terrible Concentration As A Symptom Of Glutening?
Shell156 replied to KCG91's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I hope you feel better soon! I get the brain fog thing too... I can't focus and I walk into things, so many bruises on top of being glutened! I find lots and lots of sleep/rest really helps. Good luck on your race!! -
Wow, you look great in the second picture ! I get how that is... I don't have a diagnosis either . My doctor said he "strongly suspects " I have celiac disease. The most awful thing that ever happened to me was I had gotten serious with this person I thought was the one for me, and one of his friends ( I guess she was having a hard time because she was...

Hi everyone, I know the wine topic has been done before, and I may have missed it, but I can't find it in the super sensitive forum... I have reacted to wines without question. I have reacted really badly to distilled grain alcohol as well. Just wondering, what wines have you drank (if you are super-sensitive) without problems? I have had all...

I'm a little late, and it could be the kind bars but…. I've been glutened by Starbucks a number of times. They sometimes sample/handle pastries and although they use pastry tongs or gloves, they still can cause minute cross contamination on hands, cups etc. I can have an americano one day and be fine, but another day order the exact same thing and g...

ARCHIVED gluten-free Beer - What Do You Drink?
Shell156 replied to squirmingitch's topic in Super Sensitive People
I love Harvester! I went there last year and I was so excited when my boyfriend found it at a place close to his place here in Vancouver BC. I am also super sensitive but I've never reacted to New Grist. I guess there's people in the world more sensitive than me! It certainly doesn't seem so over here… I've never met anyone who reacts to such low ppm a... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free Nuts?
Shell156 replied to notkuroda's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Hi there! I'm super busy making a raw food dinner for my friends but I just wanted to give you my two cents. I was just like your wife, SUPER sensitive to anything, getting sick all the time, continuing symptoms even though I was completely gluten free even down to my personal care products, which were also free from gluten cross contamination. I... -
Hello! I know it's been a very long time since you've posted, but I am a super sensitive celiac thinking of traveling to Panama. How did you find people in Panama were in regards to your allergy when eating out? Did you have problems explaining the dangers of cross-contamination? Thank you so much for your help!

ARCHIVED Girlfriend Making Me Sick And Dont Know Why
Shell156 replied to deals88's topic in Super Sensitive People
Hey! I know this topic is old but I thought I'd put in my two cents :-) I am super, super sensitive and one of the worst glutenings I have ever had was from my hair conditioner. When I read the ingredients, there was actually wheat protein on there! After that I threw out all my personal care products and just bought gluten free ones. So if your girlfriend... -

ARCHIVED Kayaking Spring Break Trip
Shell156 replied to Sarah B's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
Hey Sarah, I'm from Canada, so the brands might not be the exact same, but I love to travel or go on rad trips. I always bring a bunch of fruit, kettle potato chips and safe rice crackers. For something more filling in case I can't find a safe meal I like tasty bite indian meals. They come in a little pouch so you can throw the whole pouch in boiling water... -
ARCHIVED Is It Weird That I Think I Only Want To Date Gluten-Free Men?
Shell156 replied to detritus's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
LOL, I've fantasized about a gluten free city too! And I am really enjoying this post because it's particularly relevant to me. I just ended a 3 and a half year relationship, and dating for the first time with celiac... well, it's an experience I would love to date someone gluten free, but I've never met anyone. My ex was really really good. Washed... -
ARCHIVED Any Celiac(s) From Canada
Shell156 replied to Gerri's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Hi everyone I live in Richmond BC, I have been gluten free since August 2006 after struggling with huge digestive problems, stunted growth as a child, depression as a teen and young adult, etc etc. I hope I can help with Stylo and Miloandotis' sushi question. I am SUPER sensitive so keep that in mind. I have never encountered sushi rice that is a problem... -

ARCHIVED Heard Of Custom Probiotics, Inc?
Shell156 replied to Alison2's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hi Alison, I used them, and I started in December. They have really really helped me. I just got another order. I don't buy the CP-1 (50 billion) though, I buy the four strain (200 billion) and the bifido bacteria (400 billion) one. It costs me A LOT, but I was so, so sick before that it's totally worth the money for me. I like the powder because I... -
ARCHIVED Where Can I Find Millet Flour?
Shell156 replied to Melhol's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Hi Wonka, Sorry, I didn't notice your reply! I haven't tried Panne Rizo's brown rice flour. Do you like it? I ended up buying the super fine one Annalise Roberts suggests when I went to visit my brother in LA. good but expensive! About Westpoint Naturals, they are extremely good at keeping allergens segregated. I am super sensitive (have to have a gluten... -
I really should have posted this awhile ago because I realized I had a cavity a couple of months back and began calling around for dentists. Everyone says they can't GUARANTEE their products are gluten free, but I'll "probably" be fine. The last girl I talked to kept telling me, "You don't actually swallow anything, so you can use our products even if they...

ARCHIVED Newbie..need Help With Bread Please
Shell156 replied to Mandy2's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I use Annalise Robert's recipes too and I ALWAYS had problems with it falling. However after some research I realized the humidity from the air was getting into my bread (I live in Vancouver, BC). I add a couple tablespoons more of flour than she calls for in the recipe. I also have made the focaccia bread and added 1 and a half teaspoons of gelatin and it... -

ARCHIVED Where Can I Find Millet Flour?
Shell156 replied to Melhol's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Wonka, I live in Vancouver too, and I buy my millet flour at Choices, Capers or Save-on-foods (in the natural section). I bought some before at Famous foods, but I think I got glutened. I don't think they are so good at separating their flours. The kind I buy at the other places is packaged by Westpoint Naturals and Bob's Red Mill, both of which I've... -

Wow, thanks! I hate wasting ingredients on stuff that's not good :-). I can't really do dairy either, but I really recommend the doughnuts with a little soured rice milk :-). I used Ryza. Oh, and I THINK I might have added a little coconut powder. -
I bought Annalise Roberts' Gluten-free baking Classics and everything so far has been FANTASTIC! I was just wondering what out of her recipe book and Bette Hagman's "The Gluten Free Gourmet Bakes Bread" you have made that are also fantastic. I hate wasting expensive ingredients and time on something that doesn't turn out delicious. I wasn't so keen on Annalise...
