  1. About the Cranberry Sunshine cereal... According to the woman at my healthfood store, she says the company has changed their processing and the product is now made on dedicated lines (she told me this about a month ago.) They now sell the cereal as gluten-free (which means I get the 10% gluten-free product discount ) I've had two boxes of it so far and not...
  2. I'm not certain how long you've been on a gluten-free diet, but I noticed in the beginning that by cutting out the breads, pastas, cereals, etc. (easy carbs) that I was more tired than usual too. Exercising became very difficult. What I could do easily before, become a struggle, etc. Once I began to eat more normally, this seemed to go away. Try snacking...
  3. I found another site, this one is JNNP Online, the Journal of Neurology, Neurosurgury and Psychology, "A peer review journal for health professionals and researchers in all areas of neurology" This article is "Gluten sensitivity as a neurological illness" written by doctors: M Hadjivassiliou, R A Gr
  4. Here is a good site for information on the connection between celiac disease and neurological problems. In countries outside the US, it's not considered strange. (This is also very scary stuff, imo. My father had this.) Don't waste your money on taking him to a psychiatrist. He's not imagining this. Open Original Shared Link
  5. ys2kera, I'm not really certain what you're asking for help about. With 2 positive blood tests and one positive biopsy, you definitely have celiacs. My guess is that the follow up biopsy either was taken from an undamaged area or your time on the gluten-free diet has helped to heal you significantly enough that even with a single month off it, you are still...
  6. I'd been gluten-free for over EIGHT WEEKS and my doctor said it wouldn't effect the results.
  7. I don't know if there is a support group in your area, but I found out recently that there is one in mine. If I'd known 7 months ago, I would have contacted them in a heartbeat! There might be someone close to you who has gone through this who would be more than glad to help you. There is a section here about support groups, you could ask there. Good luck...
  8. About flour in the air...one of my most frequented coffee shops is part of a major bakery (the front is a coffee shop/bakery, the back is where all the baking takes place for this store and two restaurants.) Every time I go in the place, a day or so later I get sores in my nose. No other reactions, but these are painful and annoying. (Yes, I've given up going...
  9. flagbabyds...ROFL! Let's not say that people with celiac disease don't have strong opinions! The thing is, if you're new to this whole thing, this sounds like a reasonable question. It's that "diet" word that throws people. Eddie, for me and my kids, this is how it worked. When first going gluten-free (and I mean within the first week) it didn't seem...
  10. Oops! Sorry so long in getting back to this. Both the curly edges and the red, whorly top can be signs of geographic tongue. My son also has the numbness, reduces taste, "burned" sensitivity feeling along with his. It's not canker sores, it just seems to be an indication of his overall recent health. If it's clear, we know he's been feeling fine for the last...
  11. What you have sounds very familiar to me, something my father went through. Just a couple questions, symptoms he had that you didn't mention: do you have any numbness or tingling in your lower legs? Hands? Is it getting more and more difficult to swallow? Talk? (You might have mentioned these...) Do you feel stiff all over? Are your fine motor skills deteriorating...
  12. When I first found out I was gluten intolerant, I didn't worry about changing much of the way the rest of my family ate. I still bought regular pasta, bread, cereals, etc. But once one of my three kids was diagnosed, I slowly began changing the food choices and meals. A month or so later, my other two children were diagnosed and I changed the entire household...
  13. I haven't any personal experience here (not being LDS, my best friend is though ) But, here's something to consider. My son wants to be an exchange student next year, but he has the same issues going. We've been working with the organization and they believe sending him to a country that is aware of celiac disease is a workable option. Because of certain...
  14. Definitely give it a try. One of my kids (10 yr old second son) came back with "low positive, nothing to worry about" bloodwork. Because I was gluten-free and so was my eldest, I decided to bite the bullet and put him (and his little sister with the same diagnosis) on the gluten-free diet. The behavioral and emotional changes that he's gone through have been...
  15. Cream of Buckwheat cereal w/chopped apples, blueberrie, etc. Mesa Sunrise cereal w/dried fruit bits and soymillk Cranberry Sunshine cereal w/soymilk Egg custard (made with milk or soymilk) Plain ff yogurt mixed w/vanilla or caramel syrup on top of melon or other fruit Chocolate Chip Banana (or Pumpkin) Flaxmeal Muffins Flaxmeal pancakes or waffles...
  16. Her mix is 2 parts rice flour, 2/3 part potato flour and 1/3 part tapioca flour. Ex. 2 cups rice flour 2/3 cup potato flour 1/3 cup tapioca flour Sift together several times to combine well. I use this for many things, but I'm pretty happy with quinoa flour lately and am going to try alternate mixtures with that. It just seems finer than the rice...
  17. My situation is almost the opposite here. Me and my three kids are all on the gluten-free diet (hubby goes along with us) so we have a completely gluten-free house. I have a sister and a nephew (from a different sister) that have it but don't really "worry" about being gluten-free (the nephew is 7, so it's his parents ) Anyway, whenever we visit, any of...
  18. This is a basic tart recipe that I made using gluten-free flour and it came out perfect! This recipe makes 24 1-3/4-inch tart shells (the mini muffin size.) You can put any pie filling in these that you want, I'll add a couple that I've used. Tart Shells 1/2 c softened butter or margarine 3 ozs softened cream cheese 1 c gluten-free flour mix...
  19. I spent almost 14 years having every imaginable test done to see why I was constantly having stomach problems. I found some interesting facts out about myself (like, I have spider veins on my spleen... ) but no one mentioned celiacs. I found it out by accidentally going gluten-free for two weeks. Now, the doctors are like, "Aren't you glad to know?" Well...
  20. Here's what I grew up doing You make one, two crust pie (apple for example) then, with the rest of the dough, you make two individual pie crusts and stick them in the freezer if you don't want to use them right away or bake for pre-cooked pie crusts. Mariann, on another note, I still haven't found a tortilla press! (But, I haven't made it to Rite Aid...
  21. Here is my major concern with diagnosing celiac disease. If your child came back as negative for celiac disease, he may still be gluten intolerant. I've read several good analogies. Do you wait for the heart attack to control your cholesterol? No. Do you wait for cancer to give up smoking? No. Do you wait for your small intestine to be so damaged that you...
  22. Omg. My two younger kids have been having a horrible time over the last week. I've been bugging my 10 year old, semi-accusing him of eating things in school again, because he's been so emotional and moody lately (his one sign of contamination.) Meanwhile, my daughter had a terrible cold, but her tonsils are still swollen. And now I find out I'd done this...
  23. Ugh, now you're making me worried. I'd never heard of this, though I've always joked about how cold my hands and feet are. But over the last two years, it's gotten so bad I'll take a very hot shower 2-3xs a day just to warm up. Last winter was so bad my husband started talking about how getting a hot tub would lower our water bill. (And I'm always running...
  24. Interesting about the enzyme, I'll have to consider that (though price is an issue too. I'll do a comparison shop, lol) I've been gluten-free, with the occasional accidental consumption, for about 7 months now. How long does it take for the villi to completely recover?
