  1. Thanks for bringing this topic up. I never even thought to ask about this when I had a CT scan a few months ago. I'll be sure to check on any products the labs use with me from now on. Thanks again.
  2. I do remember terrible nausea and the tireness. I would drag around the house for a couple weeks. Everyone told me it would take time to clear the gluten out but when I started feeling better I could think clearer and had energy. Good luck and hope you feel better soon.
  3. Something still has me baffled. I have been gluten free since Dec. 08 and it seems the longer I'm away from gluten I'm becoming hypersensitive. I am definitely feeling better gut wise but these itches and rashes keep popping up. Shouldn't I be healthier, thus less prone to allergies as I improve my eating? When I would be accidentally glutened I would...
  4. Thanks momma goose, that is what I've read in my gluten free book about those items.
  5. Congratulations! Doesn't it feel great when the picture gets clearer.
  6. I was very overweight, a little less so these days. I was diagnosed in December of 08 and began eating EVERYTHING that said gluten free. And no I didn't lose weight and even gained some from all the crazy food I ate while remaining gluten free. In February I started cutting out processed foods, basically no flour or sugar, that worked. I'm losing weight...
  7. I went back and looked all the things I seem to be sensitive to now. The cream for my neck did have wheat germ in it. I just read that this external wheat germ would not effect my intestines but certainly would my skin if I became sensitive to it. Not sure about the spice yet it may be one of the peppers in that spice that set off the itching. The only...
  8. Thank you so much for your response. I sort of skipped over the chapters about Dermatitis Herpetaformis because I've never had skin issues. I need to go back to my books and start reading about that. Take care, fran
  9. OK, I'm certainly not a delicate lady but lately my skin thinks I am. I have been gluten free almost 7 months. A few months ago I mentioned on these boards that I developed a rash on my elbows and knees. The only new food I had eaten was grits and when I stopped those the rash cleared up in a week. Two weeks ago I ate shrimp with my favorite seasoning...
  10. Thanks so much for your response. I have been wondering if it could be something that I'm totally unaware of that I thought was ok but maybe isn't. I'll go look at all my labels again. One thing I added to my diet was some Quaker grits. I know everyone has warned about Quaker oatmeal but I don't see anything on the label that mentions wheat exposure....
  11. Just in the last couple days I have developed an itchy, red rash on both elbows and just above both knees. I can't pinpoint any unusual foods or meds I've been on recently. I have been gluten free since December and don't believe I've accidentally ingested gluten. Has anyone every experienced this type of rash? I plan on seeing a doctor if it doesn't...
  12. This may be silly question since obviously you are under a doctors care but have you had a test for glucose intolerance or diabetes? My husband and my sister, both diabetics, fall asleep after eating all their meals, maybe only 15 or 20 minutes. I knew my husband always did this (which was hard before he retired!) but recently my sister visited from out...
  13. My local hospital dietitian does not charge for visits to her. I would check with your local hospital about seeing their dietitian and if they charge. She is a great lady but all the information she gave me was off the internet. If I did not have access or didn't use a computer the info she gave me would have been enough to get started. But I do need...
  14. That is interesting because that is when mine started too about 3 weeks in. I have been eating bananas and nothing else and it seems to have let up some today. The detoxing makes sense since I can't pin it on much else. I did go back and check some foods and found casein and whey that I let get by me before I read about getting off dairy completely. ...
  15. Thanks for all your replies. I appreciate the help and will try all your suggestions. I will get back to a journal like I did the first few weeks. I checked all my suppliments for gluten and all are gluten free. I was wondering about the detoxing also. Thanks.
  16. Nausea was not one of my symptoms before going gluten-free. Now it seems every day I'm having bouts of this miserable nausea. (not pregnant, too old and fixed many years ago) I must be eating something that is causing it but good golly I'm sick of this. I track everything I put in my mouth to see if I can pinpoint what is causing it. I have only be gluten...
  17. I have definitely noticed that eating lots of raw veggies and some fruit skins are very hard for me to digest. I am miserable for a couple days after eating them. My system has been messed up for so many years, like 60, that it just can't handle some stuff YET. I am in hopes that when I heal over time I will be able to digest foods better. Good luck with...
  18. Thanks so much Betty. I'll sure try this when I purchase the ingredients.
  19. Thanks so much for all your responses. I am drinking peppermint and fennel tea all day long so maybe this thing will just run it's course. Thanks for the suggestions on foods. I checked my meds and only had to discontinue one, oxybutynin (for my bladder issues).
  20. I've been gluten-free for almost a month. I have felt so much better until the last 3 days. It started with a headache then moved to extreme nausea, stomach pains and frequent BMs (not diarrhea). I have gone over all my foods and can't find contamination or accidental gluten. I did find out that a lot of raw veggies are hard for me to digest. Actually...
  21. Your right Lizard, Pamela's does have xanthum gum. Do you think it would work to sub her mix for the wheat flour in a regular bread recipe? Why don't I just try it..duhhhhh. Thanks so much for your reply.
  22. Sorry if this came through twice, I lost my last post when I edited it. Or at least I think it's lost. Can I make a yeast bread from these ingredients? Most of the recipes I've read call for xanthum gum and the store is not close by to shop for more ingredients. Thanks. These are the ingredients I have on hand: Bob
  23. I am looking for a bread/roll recipe that doesn't use xanthum gum and can use some the flours and such I've already purchased. Is there such a critter? I feel so discouraged when I find out I am missing one more ingredient and the place to shop is not close by. Thanks. In the pantry right now I have: Bob
  24. I'm still pretty new to all this, only 3 weeks. My husband has been on the hunt with me checking all the ingredients in what we buy, he is not gluten-free. He bought a roll of bright pink duct tape that I use to label my peanut butter, jams, and anything else that is strictly gluten-free. My fridge has bright pink tape on tons of stuff and looks kind of...
  25. Good golly miss molly..I had not even noticed my RLS has not acted up the last couple weeks. Like the headache that went away when you weren't aware of it. Thanks AliB for the explanation of the nerves, make sense now. And yes a doc would hand out pills for all of my symptoms. Sweet relief on gluten-free.
