				ARCHIVED Cancer, Chemo, Gluten Ughhh
fran641 replied to fran641's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
First, my blood work was always good. I began having some stomach pain in May '10 but lots of tests couldn't find anything. A colonoscopy found a tumor in my rectum that turned out to be follicular lymphoma. Then a PET scan found it in my thighs, hip, spine, rib and abdomen (my original complaint) plus the rectum. I was undiagnosed with celiac for over... -

				ARCHIVED Cancer, Chemo, Gluten Ughhh
fran641 posted a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I had been gluten free since Jan. 09 and lost 70 lbs in a year. September of 2010 I was diagnosed with Lymphoma and began chemo in November. The predisone part of the cocktail turned on my compulsive eating pattern. Until this March I was still gluten free but gained 30 lbs. Then for some absolutely crazy reason I started on gluten foods and boy has... -

ARCHIVED Newly Diagnosed And A Wedding This Weekend
fran641 replied to bonnie blue's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I wanted to say that taking care of your needs must be a priority in your life from now on. I was diagnosed in Dec. 08. This past August I had a colonoscopy and a biopsy showed I had no sign of celiac in my small intestines. Great news I have been doing something right. BUT a biopsy in my colon showed Non Hodgkin Lymphoma. It took 30 years of tests and... -

ARCHIVED Experience And Service At Outback Steakhouse
fran641 replied to Aphreal's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
The Outback here in Tallahassee only has evening/dinner hours so it's hard for us to catch it open during the day when I'm usually up that way. GRRRRRR -

ARCHIVED What To Do When People Dont Listen?
fran641 replied to hh73's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
It is a challenge to live in a different food world than most people around us. I have a dear neighbor that we always had lots of meals with. She usually invited us because she doesn't go out much. Once I couldn't eat what she cooked it took the fun out of it for her so we were invited less and less. We took food over for the dinners a lot but that didn... -

I'm doing the happy dance!!! Thanks everyone. -
I always thought tapioca was a no no. Today I saw it listed in a Gluten Free recipe. I love the stuff and hope it is on an approved list. Thanks fran

ARCHIVED Shouldn't Have Taken Communion This Morn
fran641 replied to srall's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I hope you'll go back to your worship Service soon. I buy my own hosts and the altar ladies take one out and put it on a small patten on the altar. When it comes my turn the priest just picks mine up and gives it to me. I do dip in the wine and haven't had any side effects of that. In August I had an intestinal biopsy, the first since I was diagnosed in... -
Thanks again for all of your replies. I will let you all know what I hear from the genetic testing. I feel like I'm in limbo. When I was diagnosed with celiac I went home and got on the computer, bought books and found out a ton of info real quick. This waiting for the other shoe to fall makes me a little crazy. I can't seem to sleep more than 4 hrs....

I want to thank everyone for your responses. I appreciate your time and kind sentiments. I will go to those websites recommended and see what else I can find out. I want to be as completely informed about lymphoma as a non-medical personell can be. This is a wonderful website with caring informative people. Thanks again for your support. I'll let you...

This week a biopsy came back as stage 1 - B cell lymphoma. Further testing results are due this week to let me know if it is indolent (slow) or aggressive. That will determine course of treatment. I've read that lymphoma is not uncommon in celiac patients. I appreciate any info you'd like to share with your experiences with lymphoma. I was diagnosed with...

ARCHIVED gluten-free Plus Top 8 And Other Stuff Free Ideas
fran641 replied to StephanieL's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I also had a great snack recently. Using toothpicks wrap a small piece of bacon around chunks of pineapple and bake at 400 till the bacon is crisp. Soak the toothpicks in water to prevent from burning before using. -

ARCHIVED What Other Food Allergies Do You Have?
fran641 posted a topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
A few months ago I started having stomach pains and terrible gas with bloating. To my knowledge I have not been using gluten. I just had blood work, breath test, ultrasound and CAT scan to rule out gallbladder, pancreas and some other things as the cause. Tests were all clear. I see that a lot of people seem to develop other food allergies along the... -

I just checked the 2 things I ate. Plain yogurt and heavy cream both have no gluten ingredients listed. Thanks for your response. Do you know if most celiacs are able to tolerate dairy?
 -
I've been gluten free since Dec. 08. After about 3 months I could eat dairy again without any problems. Lately I noticed I began having stomach aches after eating and couldn't pin point exactly what was causing the pain. Just yesterday it hit me that it was almost immediately after eating dairy. Has dairy remained a problem even after being gluten free...

				ARCHIVED Protein Bars?
fran641 posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I seem to remember seeing the name of a protein bar that was gluten free on these forums. I tried a search but got pretty lost trying to find it. Could it have been Lara bars? I haven't found them in my area to check the ingredients but would like to find them online or out of town if they are safe. I'd appreciate any help in finding a safe bar I could... -

ARCHIVED Camera Pill To Look For Celiac Damage
fran641 replied to Elizabeth Ann's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Last December I had the pill camera done. Very simple test. It showed my damaged villi clearly. Started the Gluten Free diet and responded well after my learning curve. Good luck with your diagnosis. -
Thanks for the responses. I spent so many years and untold money looking for 1 doctor who could tell me why I had diarrhea for the last 30 years. I no longer think that all docs have all the answers. That dermatologist looked at me like I was kooky. "celiac is not the issue" he repeated more than once.

I went to a dermatologist who has treated my husband for skin cancer and he is a very good doctor. I was seeing him for a small wart removal. I asked him questions about my recent sensitivities due to celiacs. He said the rash I had that went away when I stopped eating grits, the rash that appeared after one day of using a cream with wheat ingredients...

				ARCHIVED Caffeine
fran641 replied to hippo33's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I've been gluten free since Dec. I have become very sensitive to caffeine just in the last month. It makes my heart beat too fast and I get the shakes. Weird how I'm becoming more and more sensitive the things that didn't bother used to bother me. -
I hate all the itching that I have but it is only occasionally and external. My poor sister has internal colon itching, it's truly an itch that can't be scratched! When I was diagnosed in Dec. she decided to try going gluten free (didn't get tested until after quiting gluten so her test was negative). After getting off the gluten the itching quit. But...

[]Yes, I do eat yogurt every other day and take probiotics everyday. The funny thing is that I seem to be digesting my meals fine, no d, gas or bloating. I feel better after eating than I have in many years. It is the external symptoms that concern me. Could damage be occuring in my intestines without my knowing it if these external symptoms are going...
