  1. I know I have posted on here about h.pylori a long time ago, but am still wondering. I found out i had it about 3 months ago, when they tested me for this, they also tested me for celiac...and surprise...I also have that too). I am already allergic to 3 types of antibiotics, so for now, I am refusing the standard medication. I have been taking omeprazole...
  2. Jamie, I just wanted to give you hugs! I basically wrote what you did 2 months ago. I was in shock and so overwhelmed. I love food, and I love baking....I was just crushed. We are lucky that we both have husbands that are trying to be supportive, because I know some people who have husbands who won't go along with it at all, and it would be so much...
  3. I went to my cousin's wedding this weekend. And in advance, I spoke with him about how my meal at the reception had to be gluten-free, and it was no problem. And yes, I did have a gluten-free meal and is was good. But at the same time, I was just watching how everyone else could just eat what was put in front of them without thinking twice about it, and...
  4. so, did we feel worse in the beginning because our intestines were in "shock" from what it is now about to absorb? And then over time, it gets used to it? just trying to figure it all out
  5. sounds delicious, and similar to an apple pancake I make. I am going to try it this weekend, thanks!
  6. Wow, I have been gluten-free now for almost 2 months. It has definitely gotten easier, but still depressing at times. Anyway, this might be a weird question, but I was wondering what people's symptoms were the first few weeks of going gluten-free. It seems when I first started gluten-free, those first couple of weeks were really difficult on my tummy...
  7. i know there are some past threads on this, but since things constantly changes, i wanted to do a current thread. what vodkas are safe to drink. i want ot make vodka pasta tonight, and need to run out and get some, so since i am cooking with it, i don't want to spend a fortune on a bottle. what is a cheaper gluten-free brand and then for when i do...
  8. I thought they were supposed to be served in their wrappers, maybe they made a mistake and took them out?
  9. I remember one of the first time I went out to eat after going gluten-free..I was at this falafel place and asking about what was safe, etc... And the guy working there was like, "you look healthy, i would never of thought you had celiac". I am still stumped by that statement. Am I supposed to look sick? I guess when I heard that, it depressed me...
  10. I agree! I have not eaten McD's in years and it has nothing to do with being Celiac. I only found out about Celiac this year, but it has been over 10 years since i will go to a fast food place (with the exception of Chipotle - lol)
  11. Thanks for the link. We leave Friday. I am actually making food for the way there...pasta salad, sandwiches, hummus and chips, so that takes care of the ride there
  12. https://www.celiac.com/gluten-free/index.ph...mp;#entry531199 Here is a thread with people reviewing it, who have already tried it. It was so yummy!
  13. i finally found one this morning! I bought 2, to save one for later. It was so yummy!! even if I was not gluten-free, I would love it. I think being that it is made with almond flour, it doesn't have that particular flavor you find with rice flour, which can sometimes be overkill. I can't wait to have the 2nd one now!
  14. I stopped at 2 different Starbucks today in Chicago....and they did not have them! You would think a Starbucks in the city would for sure have it...but they said there was a mix up with their delivery order, and they will be getting it tomorrow. I will be hoping to try one tomorrow for sure...sounds yummy!
  15. I would like to think the media is blowing this out of proportion, and I am being an alarmist, but I can't help but worry So, the fact that we have celiac...does this mean, that we have compromised immune systems and will be more likely to contract something like this, and if we do, it will be more difficult to fight this off, than a "normal" person...
  16. I just tried this tonight, and baked the buttermilk biscuit recipe on the box to go with my carrot and coriander soup that I made for dinner, and it turned out perfectly! They were super fluffy and didn't fall one bit. It makes sense if they are made by Gluten Free Pantry, as I have liked everything of theirs I have tried so far..especially the cornbread...
  17. True. I made some a few weeks ago, with Tinkyada pasta, and added chick peas, tomato, mozzarella, basil and olives. As a dressing, I just used some olive oil and balsamic dressing. I had a non-gluten-free friend over, and she couldn't even tell the difference from "normal" pasta
  18. The way out there, I will most likely pack a cooler with pasta salad, sandwiches (all gluten-free, of course), fruit, veggies, hummus, etc... It is the way back that will be more difficult, since we are staying at a hotel, and there won't be anywhere for me to cook, but yes, I could do a bunch of snacky food. With a 4-year old, we will need to take a break...
  19. nope, i do not use chocolate syrup. i actually don't like chocolate - lol. i don't think it is the corn, because i eat that cereal all the time dry with no problem, as well as tortillas, corn chips..so i am thinking i am ok with corn...for now. i really think it was the milk. though last night i had yogurt and cheese, and no problem with that.
  20. Yes, living for a long part of my life in Atlanta, I will miss my Waffle House! Brings back great college memories =) I would think rice, baked potato, plain veggies and the catfish would be oK at Cracker Barrel, but wow, I will miss the corn bread. Maybe I will call them before our trip. And i love the corn cakes and pumpkin pancakes at IHOP...
  21. I have been gluten-free for a month now (before diagnosis, I had no symptoms). The first week was easy-peasy, the second, I felt like everything made me extremely sensitive. A couple of nights when I had cheese and crackers my stomach did not feel great. And then a couple of nights when I had ice cream, I would wake up with a slightly sore tummy. I had...
  22. I hope you get some answers today from your Dr. I have h.pylori, and before I was being careful about what I ate, I would feel it pretty quickly, and I know some people with it have pretty intense pain. Let us know how the appt goes!
  23. I just wanted to pop in, because I am currently reading Omnivore's Dilemma and up to the section of processed foods, wow, lots of what I am reading is scary. I do try and stay away from processed foods as much as i can...but I do buy corn chips and tortillas, tofu, sunshine burgers, gluten-free goodies....but try to buy things that are non-GMO (genetically...
  24. Oh, yea, and being that the only meat I eat is fish, it really limits my food choices...so no burgers, or anything like that.
  25. First, let me preface by saying, I do NOT like fast food...or crap food from chains. I can't even step in a McD's because of the smell. I am truly a foodie at heart and love real food, made from scratch. My only exception ever is for road trips... Next month, we are taking a 7-hour road trip to Pittsburgh for my cousin's wedding. We usually take...
