  1. I guess my situation was a little different. When I was disgnosed (self-disgnosed with the help of my OBGYN), I was happy as a clam not to be suffering any longer. For 5-7 years I had the most terrible chest pains, heart palpatations, nausea, muscle pains, mood swings, etc. etc. etc. When I decided to go gluten free I started feeling better right away...
  2. I've eaten at Olive Garden before and have not been glutened. You have to watch what you order. First they bring you a salad. I have questioned their choice of dressing and was told it was a "house dressing" and was all natural ingredients. Remind them not to put crutons in the salad and if you don't tolerate cheese will tell them no parmesan. I ate...

    ARCHIVED Exciting!

I travel approximately 2 hours to get to my nearest Whole Foods. I do this about every 1-2 months. My local grocery store (about 20 minutes away) carries the basic MiDel cookies, 1-2 brands of cereal, bread mixes & pizza crusts.) I usually shop there between visits to Whole Foods. Consider yourself lucky!!!!
  4. Diagnosed at 41. Although I've suffered for the last 6-7 years. GI doctor could not find anything and kept telling me I had Acid Reflux. I was in for my annual OBGYN visit and was telling my doctor some of the symptoms I had. He suggested I go home and look up Sprue Disease on the web. The more I read the more I could see myself. Did some intensive...
  5. I've had this surgery. They removed hemorrhoids and repaired a fistula at the same time. It was a very stressful recovery (not lots of pain just mental stress). I also suffered depression during the recovery. But, I was back to work in two weeks. I stand on my feet all day long and it was told to me that standing was the worst thing to do. Since the...
  6. Can someone fill me in on these Larabars. I really would like to try them but have not been able to locate any information about them. I also suffer with diverticulitis, therefore I cannot have any nuts in the mix. Thanks
  7. I am very sensitive to any type of adhesive. I have pulled up skin when trying to remove bandages. When I go to the doctor and they have to place a bandage, I usually ask that they just put the cotton and allow me to hold it a while. I am thankful I'm not a free bleeder.
  8. [u]homepage.mac.com/sholland/celiac/GFfoodlist.pdf This is not an updated list, but I use it very often! I was just recently diagnosed in July 2008. I am still learning and still at times use this list to shop. Start with the basics: fresh fruit, fresh veggies, fresh cuts of meat: beef, chicken, pork, etc. Next shopping trip, plan ahead. Look for...
  9. I also suffer with joint pain when glutened. (This is the first time I've heard someone else with the same symptoms.) I've had several doctors tell me my cartilidge in my rib cage was swollen when I complained about hurting in the chest area. Not one GI doctor could tell me what was causing it. I was actually diagnosed by my OBGYN!

    ARCHIVED Need Recipe

Thanks for all the good advice. I'll give these a try as soon as I can find some of these ingredients and let you all know the results. Thanks again!
  11. Being from South Louisiana, I need a recipe for gluten free roux. I want to make gumbos and stews, but this is not possible without a roux (formally made with flour and oil) to thicken the sauce. I have asked several forums for help with this and was never given a reply. I would really appreciate any help. Thanks
  12. My Recipe for Sticky Chicken and Potatoes: (Old Cajun Family Favorite) Cut and peel three medium potatoes into chunks. Fry in Canola oil until crisp. Remove from oil. Cut about 3-4 lbs of boneless chicken into chunks and fry in the same oil as potatoes. Remove chicken from oil and empty oil (leaving about 2 serving spoons of oil in pot.) Cut and chop...
  13. Sas888, I was diagnosed with clinical celiac in July 2008. The most helpful information I found was the partial listing of Gluten-Free "Mainstream" Products Available in the Chicago Area. The address is listed below. I used this as a guide to find products available in my home state of Louisiana. I still refer to this guide when I need to. I also...
