ARCHIVED Public School Lunch And Celiac
jadobson replied to LuvMySon's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I think you have a legal right. Since Celiac effects eating, a life necessity, the school has to if requested provide your son with a gluten free meal. Try looking under Americans with disabilities act and maybe request a 504. You might also try having a doctor write you a note saying that your child suffers from Celiac and would benefit from the use of... -
ARCHIVED New To The Gluten Free Life - Help
jadobson replied to Trenten's Mommy's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Try shopping at Walmart. They label their brand of foods Gluten-Free if they are. They are even stocking gluten free pasta, brownie mixes, muffin mixes, and waffles in our area. Some of our staples are corn tortillas with beans and cheese. However, since he's pretty torn up dairy might not work for him. For snacks Trix is good along with the usual fruit... -

jadobson replied to mommyetb's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Wow, I can imagine how joyful you were. We live in AZ, but just came home from Celiac camp in TX this summer. The camp was called "The great gluten escape" It was paradise, my son and I loved it and will be back next year. It is supported in part by the Dallas R.O.C.K. group. There was a bunch of wonderful ladies there that live in that area and have... -
ARCHIVED Help! I Need A Pediatric Gi Doctor...anyone Here From Phoenix?
jadobson replied to azmom3's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
We liked Dr. Scheikein (? sp) who is over at Dobson and the US 60. She seems only pediatric. She was nice and explained things in normal terms not all doctor terms. Also there is a doctor that is part of Phx Children's hospital that treats out of an office near that same building. I can't remember her name, but she was ok. She was alittle upset with... -
ARCHIVED My Sons Doc Visit Yesterday
jadobson replied to chgomom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I just wanted to put my 2 cents in. I agree wait until the lab results come back then go gluten free. We too did not bx and I have never regreted it. The doctors agreed after seeing him grow and gain weight that he was celiac. Mind you it took a few years, but they all agree and my littlest child is now doing the same thing at 5 yrs. so we are doing... -
ARCHIVED Birthday Parties And Family Get Togethers.
jadobson replied to shai76's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I totally agree with talking to him now and the shirt would be a neat thing for him. My son is 12 and I didn't think he'd think it was cool so we never got him one, he recently saw them in a magazine and now wants one. They have hats too. I want to say it was www.celiac.com that has a cute one with a skateboard. Since it is your sister in law you could... -
ARCHIVED Summer Camp
jadobson replied to momothree's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
We to are sending our oldest to camp for the firt time this year too. However, we did some research and found a camp just for Celiac disease, so that I didn't have to worry about the food. It'll be fun to come back after camp and discuss the pros and cons of each. If your interested it is Open Original Shared Link. My husband has family in Texas so that... -
ARCHIVED Need To Decide To Biopsy Or Not.....help Please!
jadobson replied to Wendyp's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Don't bx. We too had similar issues. I chose not to bx as we don't respond to anesthia very well. Within a few months he had gained some weight and I could easily see the difference. Our doctors agreed to label him with it without the dx based on the increase weight and dispostion. Go with your gut feeling. Mine was no bx was needed when all it would... -

ARCHIVED New Here
jadobson replied to Eeyorific's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Never go against yourself. You do not have to have him go back on gluten. My son had troubles too, not as bad, but troubles. We have been gluten free for 5 years (now 78 pounds heavier). We too didn't have the greatest set of GI's. It was my insistance to vist an endcronologist who caught what 3 GI's hadn't. He too had pos. high antiglidin antibodies... -
ARCHIVED Halloween Is Coming!
jadobson replied to musikate's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
We avoid it all together. We go to Chucky Cheese and let the kids play. We have brought in our own pizza, since it's gluten free, and they always smile, we've developed a repatoir that now they even know my son by first name and don't stop and ask anymore. It's also nice as the rest of the family can get the "real" thing. If you must have candy buy a... -
ARCHIVED How Do I Start?
jadobson replied to JoyfulDancer's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I fully understand the limited budget. What we have found is that it's much cheaper to make our own bread. My son has his own bread machine so that there is no worries. We bought a cheap Walmart one for around $30.00. We have a great bread book by LynnRae Ries called Delicious Gluten Free-Wheat Free Breads. Here is the link Open Original Shared Link.... -
ARCHIVED Diarhea-how Long Did It Last?
jadobson replied to key's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Something to think about is could it be all the soy. My son has Celiac and is also allergic to soy something we had no clue about until a blood test. -
ARCHIVED Okay, Had My Mini-breakdown Yesterday....
jadobson replied to a topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I've so been there. What helped me is once I finally found recipes that would work I made extra and froze them for that night when I just needed to order a pizza. I also learned that it was ok to buy gluten free things pre-made occasionally. With our limited income we learned, quickly what I could make and what I could buy. If no one eats it, it's a waste... -

You all have been soooo very, very helpful and encouraging. Thank you for the link that is awesome I can tell the healthfood the item #'s and hopefully get it local. I had never heard of a traveling communion kit, but that would be great to get and I'm going to look out for that. I just can't thank all of you enough. It is a Baptist church so I don't...

Hello all, After some great time away from church, myself and three children, are returning back. I'm wondering how any you approached the church in regards to communion? Both my son and myself have had pos. blood test results, but due to neg. reactions to anesthia we can not do biopsy's. Any suggestions for the approaching the subject with the church?...

ARCHIVED I Just Wanted To Say....
jadobson replied to mrsfish-94's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
We too refused the bio. However, after being on a gluten free diet my son is much happier and has finally gained some weight. It has been wonderful for us. I think you have to think about how difficult it is to be on the diet and what the pro's and con's are of staying on the diet for a while and seeing if there is any differences. Our doctor has labeled... -

ARCHIVED What's Next?
jadobson replied to frstr8tedmom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I've so been where you are at to some degree. Our son was 34lbs and 7 years old. To make a long story short an edcronologist find his blood work abnormal and reffered us to yet another gastro doc. She couldn't see us for 3 months. I too did the research and put him on a gluten free diet. Less than a year later when I was bringing my daughter in for similar... -
ARCHIVED Gingerbread Houses
jadobson replied to DawnI's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I love that idea. My family all loves rice krispy treats, and maybe the house would get eaten instead of wasted, as the gingerbread never gets eaten. LOL Thank you so much for sharing. Julie D.
