  1. I have a 4 year old boy that weighs 26# and a 2 year old girl that weighs 23#. My daughter has never had gluten, our household was gluten-free when she was born. My son (the 4 year old) was diagnosed at 16 months and has yet to get on the growth chart. He wears 2T clothing for the most part, jeans are usually short. If I can find 3T jeans with an adjustable...
  2. Hi Kennessee, We're military too. I have 4 kids and 3 have been diagnosed with celiac disease, just FYI, the insurance has covered everything. We're still having issues with my 3 year old, he's by far the sickest - has been from birth. IUGR, failure-to-thrive, etc. etc. When he was 15 mos old we finally had a diagnosis but he's not putting on weight...
  3. CONGRATULATIONS!!! I hope to be there in 16 years. *wink*
  4. Congratulations!!!! I hope he grows and gains weight every day so he'll be able to come home soon!
  5. I agree with psawyer, that specialist is wrong. I have 2 boys that were diagnosed after biopsies; my youngest was 18 months (2 months ago) and 5 years old. I just got the results from my 3rd child's genetic test - she has the genes for it but currently doesn't have any symptoms. I'm 25 weeks pregnant with baby #4, it won't matter if he/she has celiac...
  6. I just put in a request to join.
  7. I've had some similar thoughts myself. My boys were recently diagnosed and our household is going gluten-free. My husband, daughter and I are still waiting for test results.... I'm expecting #4 and asked about eating gluten-free and have eaten a lot less wheat. I've noticed some horrible symptoms but don't know if I should chalk it up to being pregnancy...
  8. I'm jealous. *wink* I'm going to do some research, this sounds like a great opportunity!
  9. Oh wow, I hope she stays seizure free. Good luck Susan!!
  10. I have 2 children that have been diagnosed after gene testing and endo/biopsy. My oldest is waiting for her gene test results. DH and I have had blood tests but they both came back negative. DH has his enod/biopsy scheduled for July, they won't do anything with me because I'm exepecting baby #4. I've put the boys on a gluten-free menu but everyone...
  11. Our Pediatric GI's office uses Kimball Genetics - they've done tests on 2 of our kids, DD's cheek swab is in the mail.

ARCHIVED Any Good Doctors In Jacksonville?

Jacksonville, FL? We're in Jacksonville, NC. I can suggest one if you're in NC.
  13. Exactly - no need for gluten to be in the body for this test.
  14. If I were you, I'd take a folder of information just in case he/she starts to question you. If the appointment goes well and you don't feel the need to whip it out- don't but you'll have it on hand if necessary. Nobody we talk to has any clue what celiac disease is, they just aren't aware. I agree with a PP that said doctors know a lot but they just...
  15. In our case, I think we were blessed with a great doctor. A short history- I was diagnosed with IUGR at 32/34 weeks and they induced labor at 36. My son was 5lbs 4ozs at birth. The docs said he'd do better (put on weight) outside because the IUGR wasn't allowing any more growth. HA! He's never been on the growth chart. At 8 weeks old I asked about...
  16. I'm so sorry you were put in that position, it's a horrible feeling. My 3rd child was being tested (DNA cheek swab) and had the endo w/biopsy but while we were waiting for results I was told to continue feeding him gluten. I'm very new to this lifestyle and this is my first post, I'm honestly thrilled to find such a community of experience. Thank you...
