ARCHIVED Regina Sk Chapter
num1habsfan replied to jordanarendt's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
That would be so nice!!! I was never able to come out to any of the meetings or parties. The letters were also nice because the one had a whole list of where to eat/where to buy food. Whenever I can get to see the current Celiac dietician (I haven't had the way to go drop of referral letter from my doc yet) I'll also ask her what is going on or how a... -
Sudden Spells Of Extreme Sleepiness When Glutened
num1habsfan replied to raisin's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I think it is normal for Celiacs. Definitely sounds familiar.. -
ARCHIVED Fry's Cocoa
num1habsfan replied to misseditbythatmuch's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Oh, weird. I have never seen a can with warnings on them...ever! Also have never been glutened (and have used a lot of recipes that need cocoa. Plus somewhere I seen a list saying that Frye's was safe, hmm...I don't remember what list or from where, I re-write everything into my "gluten-free bible". -
ARCHIVED Celiacs In College
num1habsfan replied to nutbutters's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
being in my fourth year of university I decided not to trust anything at the school. There are microwaves all around (I don't dare go to any of the little cafeterias, except for Tim Horton's), but I don't trust the microwaves either. I live a mile from the university, and this semester I took things a step further for myself: Planned out my schedule so that... -
ARCHIVED Your Favorite Gluten Free Discovery
num1habsfan replied to HopeMum's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My 2 favourite gluten-free foods of all time: the ready-made Pyrogies (which are worth paying almost $6 for a dozen), and recently Glutano soup crackers are back. LOVE the soup cracker. I am a huge fan of Glutino mushroom soup, so the Glutano crackers go along perfectly! -
I don't know if any of you have noticed, but in the one Safeway in Regina they have a fridge freezer by the bread section that has a bunch of Kinnikinnick products. What I love is that a couple of times I have been lucky enough to catch it when it was on their Club card special. It actually ended up being cheaper than buying right from the company. ...

ARCHIVED Regina Sk Chapter
num1habsfan replied to jordanarendt's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I don't know what's going on with them. It has been 2+ years since I got any newsletter or meeting invites, so my guess would be inactive ... Even when I spoke with a lady who used to be the Celiac dietician here in Regina she said she didn't know what was going on with them. I think I am going to have to try and join the Saskatoon one. I suggest you... -
What exactly do you want the excel sheet to calculate/show?? Being the computer geek that I am, I can easily make one up for you if you want.

ARCHIVED Lumbar Facet Arthritis
num1habsfan replied to num1habsfan's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Just to give an update, my bloodwork for RA was negative (then again, i had it tested when I wasn't having a flare). I'm also going to have my first physiotherapy session this friday (Jan. 16/09) at the university. Out of curiosity, I am going to mention that I have Celiac...I wonder what she will have to comment on that. We all know that Celiac and Arthritis... -
It is an interesting idea. I will also embarassingly admit that I used to have serious problems with it (before going gluten-free/being diagnoosed). And to save myself from even greater embarassment, I actually now keep backups of something like Goodnites in case I am not feeling well. I really DO have bladder issues when I'm glutened or something...

ARCHIVED Doing A Speech Today
num1habsfan replied to num1habsfan's topic in Publications & Publicity
Thank you! You're right, it was not easy to talk about it but it was my instructors idea to begin with. I wasn't going to, but he said people who know first-hand what it is like to live with a lot of allergies. All of the other groups told the techical and typical details that you'd find on the internet, but I was obviously able to give it a more personal... -
ARCHIVED Cca/health Canada Survey
num1habsfan replied to num1habsfan's topic in Publications & Publicity
No, it was sent to all members of the CCA because Health Canada and the CCA are working together to try figure out how to make life easier for Celiacs if they know what we have to go through. -
In case anybody is curious, I finally got the survey (which I have 1 day to return, ahhh) from Health Canada/the CCA. I'm going to share the questions that were asked..bold is my answers (this way I can remember/compare for when they show the results!) 1. Are you 18 years of age or older? (yes/no) 2. Do you have a medical condition for which you follow...

ARCHIVED Doing A Speech Today
num1habsfan replied to num1habsfan's topic in Publications & Publicity
I have been so busy that I just haven't had the time to tell everyone how it went. It did go good, I was reallyyy nervous but my instructor thanked me about 3 or 4 times and said I was awesome for speaking about it. The instructor was also my lifesaver: for the guest speaker, he purposely brought in a dietician who used to specialist in Celiac... -
ARCHIVED Iron
num1habsfan replied to num1habsfan's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Just to update, I'm still getting the major side effects like the cramps...Only a few more weeks, then I need to have bloodwork done to test how much it has changed. Lets hope that it has so I can go on a lower strength, or something?? Oh, and I discovered something interesting: eating red peppers helps deal with the cramps, better than ANY other food... -
Eek, I have to do a speech and tell my whole story about Celiac anywhere between 1 - 2:10 pm (depending when our group goes up). Definitely feeling nervous about it...our topic was allergies, so it was actually the instructor who encouraged me to tell what its like living with this disease. I'm so nervous! a) I hate doing speeches and This is really the...

ARCHIVED Gluten-free Prescriptions (birth- Control)
num1habsfan replied to Grace Maureen's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
That is definitely good to know, I was going to post a topic about them on here but I guess I don't need to. I haven't started them quite yet..the doc said wait until I get my period. We'll see just how much they help my iron deficiency...(you can find more info about that in my thread in this sub-section) -
ARCHIVED Iron
num1habsfan replied to num1habsfan's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Blah, I talked to one of my pharmacists. He said that nothing can really be done about it, just have to deal with it and continue taking it with food. Sucks -
ARCHIVED Iron
num1habsfan replied to num1habsfan's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I remember him checking off more than just the TSH, so i don't know. This isn't the first time that i've had a thyroid attack and the tests turned out normal. By the way, I think I may go home this weekend. Talk to one of my pharmacists about what they suggest I do. I am not enjoying these tummy aches or the fact I can't keep food in my gut. -
ARCHIVED Iron
num1habsfan replied to num1habsfan's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Interesting...because I did have very, very swollen thyroids...even the doctor saw that (yet somehow bloodwork showed they were normal). Also around the same time I had gotten over a severe bladder/kidney infection (which my doctor was convinced there was blood present judging by the descriptions I gave). -
ARCHIVED Iron
num1habsfan replied to num1habsfan's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Blah, yeah they are very painful. Even when I take them with food and at the same time as the Vitamin C pills. He also told me to try BC for a few months, because he believes that will increase it. *sigh* I wonder what even caused such a drastic drop in the first place! -
ARCHIVED Iron
num1habsfan replied to num1habsfan's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Maybe my doctor is just trying to get my level up ASAP?? It was at 6...and from what I've been told that's very, very low. -

I am on some sort of generic brand stuff...later today I'll dig out the bottle and tell you which one specifically.
