ARCHIVED Licking Envelopes
KaitiUSA replied to jknnej's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I never got a reaction from it...since I have had celiac I just have never licked them. I know people that have had reactions from what they thought was that. Maybe that was with old envelopes I don't know. I just don't really trust it them but if you know they are gluten-free and you don't have a reaction....it's completely up to you. DarlinDeb25... -
ARCHIVED Dealing With The Changes
KaitiUSA replied to Tutahl75's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Jknnej- A strong support system is so helpful! My mom has a severe wheat allergy but my dad does not have any food restrictions and they don't even bring anything containing wheat and gluten in the house. If my dad wants anything he will eat something before he comes home or at work. I definately understand the whole inconvenience thing and completely agree... -
Jknnej-I have always been told that envelopes are not safe to lick because of whatever is in it to make it stick. Also, most stickers I have heard have gluten in their adhesive. If you use the ones you have to lick I would recommend using a wet paper towel or something. I wash my hands even after using the peel and stick ones just to be extra cautious.

ARCHIVED Licking Envelopes
KaitiUSA replied to jknnej's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I have also always heard they are not safe but I do not know that for sure I just stay away from licking them. I also heard that most stickers contain gluten as well in their adhesive. I use the peel and stick and then wash my hands(because of the adhesive)-I like to be extra cautious. -
Jknnej-I take Enzymatic Therapy enzymes called CompleteGest. On their bottles they put what they are free of so I like that brand. Alot of their supplements I use because of that. They have really good Probiotics too. I get them at Whole Foods, Roots, or Vitamin Shoppe. You can pretty much get them at the health food stores around. If you can't find them...

ARCHIVED Interesting Observation
KaitiUSA replied to a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Yeah I was lacking certain things when I was on supplements before I went gluten-free. I just wasn't absorbing them. After going gluten-free I am absorbing them now. That's probably what happened with you. At least they are better now -
I think for me it is either a gluten intake or chocolate that causes them for me. I very rarely have them now. My mom always tells me I watch too much news and I have really cut back on alot of that so maybe there is a correlation with what you watch. Just a thought

People would be more aware of the food he gets to make sure it doesn't contain anything he couldn't have. I think it would be easier because you would have so many people who are cautious. He probably would get the best tasting gluten-free stuff to.

ARCHIVED Fatigue
KaitiUSA replied to ToriT's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Many people have different signs and symptoms and some no symptoms at all that is why celiac is so underdiagnosed. Not all doctors have a very good knowledge about celiac. They don't know what to look for. That's why finding one who knows about celiac is very important. I'm not sure where you live but if you go to the homepage on this site they have... -
ARCHIVED Celiac With No Symptoms?
KaitiUSA replied to healthyme's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Celiac is not symptomatic. You can feel perfectly fine while the gluten is tearing up your intestine. Weight loss is a symptom of celiac. I lost like 15 pounds in a short period, when I went off of gluten it all came back. If the tests came back positive you have it. When your blood tests are elevated that means something is in fact going on. Be glad... -
ARCHIVED Genes -- Are You Cd Positive?
KaitiUSA replied to Professor's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
gf4life-Thank you so much. That info definately helps out so much. My parents have both been tested. Digestive problems run in the family on both sides and we suspect possibly some cousins ,grandma, and others that may have celiac. They aren't necessarily convinced either and it's hard because we can only tell them so much and give them so much info. I guess... -
ARCHIVED Genes -- Are You Cd Positive?
KaitiUSA replied to Professor's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Thanks:) If I have 2 copies of the gene that would mean it came from both parents correct? Also, when I was tested for the gene would they have told me if there was more than one copy of the gene in the results? We are trying to figure out which side it came frome it seems both sides of the family think it is the other side that has the gene and they... -
ARCHIVED Fatigue
KaitiUSA replied to ToriT's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
It does sound very much like celiac. I would find a doctor near you who is knowledgable about it and then get tested. Fatigue can come with celiac. I had fatigue but not to the point that you are describing. After going gluten-free my symptoms either went away or are over 10 times better. I had to switch doctors a few times till I found a reg doc and... -
If might want to do enterolab or york lab testing. If you feel better of of gluten listen to your body..your body tells you more than any doctor could tell you. I would try to get something confirmed whether it is an allergy or if it is infact celiac disease or something else.

ARCHIVED What Supplements Do You Take?
KaitiUSA replied to Karina's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
1. Probiotics:Probiotic bacteria favorably alter the intestinal microflora balance, inhibit the growth of harmful bacteria, promote good digestion, boost immune function, and increase resistance to infection.Probiotic bacteria also produce substances called bacteriocins, which act as natural antibiotics to kill undesirable microorganisms. These have really... -
Do you know for sure if you have celiac? If you think you do I would suggest find a knowledgable doctor in celiac where you live. If you do have celiac even if you don't have symptoms this ruins your intestine. This may also increase your risk of developing cancer down the road. This can lead to not only cancer but other very serious conditions. By ignoring...

ARCHIVED Which Is Better? Corn Or Rice Pasta?
KaitiUSA replied to mwical's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips

ARCHIVED Genes -- Are You Cd Positive?
KaitiUSA replied to Professor's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I have the HLA-DQ2 gene. Does anybody know if this gene comes from both parents? -
Wow that's pretty careless...If she really is a celiac I agree with you all she is a pretty careless one. I'd be sick for about a week if I did that.

ARCHIVED Found This On Another Message Board
KaitiUSA replied to stef-the-kicking-cuty's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
debmidge-I couldn't agree with you more. I know I get mad when people downplay celiac and I bet people with allergies have that same reaction if they feel someone is downplaying that. They both are very serious. We do all need to work together I'm sure we could all learn a lot from each other. -
ARCHIVED Interesting Observation
KaitiUSA replied to a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I have heard the charlie horses are a sign of not enough calcium. I'm not sure if that is true but I have heard that alot. Maybe before diagnosis you weren't absorbing enough of what you needed and now being gluten-free you are. Just a thought -
Well biopsies can miss damage if they don't go to the right place or if there is not that much to detect. If there was a slight elevation in the blood test something has to be going on. If you really believe that you have celiac then you could try going gluten-free as richard suggested. Your body will know better then any doctor could tell you. Also you might...

Citric Acid
KaitiUSA replied to Karina's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
If you have trouble with citric acid it do not think it would not be a celiac issue because as celiac3270 said citric acid is fine. I've never heard of it being a problem in the US...outside of the US I'm not sure.Hope this helps you out a bit -
