I too was initially diagnosed with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome... it seems like a lot of us are... I'm curious if it is a complete misdiagnosis or do a lot of people with Celiac also have CFIDS?

Why do you want to date only Celiacs? I've got to tell you in my experience (which is vast) of trying to find the right person over many decades... I'd certainly not limit myself to any small group it really limits the chances of finding someone.
I've got a wonderful non Celiac boyfriend now (6+ year relationship) and he knew me when I was a gluten eater and when we found out I have to be gluten-free he was on board immediately. He watched me get better and never wants to see me that sick again. When he is with me he is gluten-free and that suits him fine. At home he eats some gluten but not much.
When we travel or go out to dinner unless its a "known" gluten-free restaurant he will call ahead and talk to them and when we get to the place he will do it all over again, ask to speak to the chef and so forth (I think he likes taking charge!). Really he's a gem and I'm sure there are other guys out there that are just as considerate.
Oh well either way... good luck!

It took me a while but I finally found myself a good doctor that seems to understand Celiac. However my daughters pediatrician doesn't really get it. Based on my Celiac he ordered a test for her and it came back "mildly positive" and he told us that mildly positive doesn't really mean positive. Well in my book it does!
He also said, oh wow you don't want to have this, its so hard, wow its so hard almost no one can do it. Well that sets us up for failure. My daughter has a life threatening peanut allergy so she is very upset at now having to avoid gluten too. So when she cheats she says... "Mom even my doctor said no one can really do this".
It makes me so angry and I told him, hey I've been doing it for 4 years and I don't find it hard at all, its second nature. I do know from reading this list a lot of people DO find it hard and do cheat occasionally or even dream about gluten foods. I never did, sure it took a while to figure where the gluten was hiding but I don't feel gypped at all.

I think I'm the only one not joining the cult. I feel like an outsider now
I don't like it as much as Bare Minerals... I ordered a lot of stuff and gave most of it to my daughter. I kept a light pink finishing powder and the lipsticks I ordered. And I do like the concealer (took me 4 trys to get the right color).
But over all I feel the powder itself isn't ground as finely as Bare Minerals. I'm older with a few lines and creases on my face and the powder seems to settle in those lines where my Bare Minerals doesn't.
Oh well just goes to prove that something is not exactly right for everyone!

I saw only part of the show but I did happen to see the part where they were talking about gluten intolerance. I didn't like Oprah just sitting there but I also didn't think the doctor did Celiac or gluten intolerance any help.
She said, (not an exact quote) that if you have trouble with gas and burping take grains out of your diet for a few days ... if you feel better then you probably have a gluten intolerance. I really felt this did a huge disservice to people that may have undiagnosed celiac. Because with that advice they are going to remove bread, pasta, cake, cookies and they will still be eating tons of wheat and gluten because no one mention how it hides in so many foods.
So a lot of people who have GI disturbances may in fact follow her advice and try going off grains as best the can for a "few days" and of course they won't see any improvement and so they will think that its NOT the wheat.
She could have at least mentioned a few web sites or the name Celiac disease so people could google it. I was really disappointed watching the show.

How does the pink on your eyes look? I never look good with that Im a blonde with sort of bloodshot eyes (contacts) and when I put pink on my lid I feel like it looks like I have pink eye! I'm too heavy handed I guess.

I'm going to Ft. Lauderdale! My BF and I go every year, he plays lacrosse in a big tournament there each year. We are there for a week.

Yeah, I hate companies that use DHL and I can't figure why they do. With DHL you can pay for 2 day delivery however DHL won't guarantee 2 day delivery... if they don't guarantee it why am I paying for it? I guess they must be really cheap. I don't know for sure but I don't like them.
I paid for my second batch of make up to be shipped 2 day. That was 4 days ago and I leave on vacation Monday morning for 2 weeks.

Well at least you've found out that going gluten-free is helping. And like the above poster said..... you have not been gluten free long enough to get a real handle on it. Although I felt better on day 3 of being gluten-free it took months and months for most of my symptoms to go away.
However, I was never 100% better being just gluten-free. And so back to the doctors I went and finally got a biopsy and found out I have another autoimmune disease, eosinophilic gastroenteritis.. I had many allergy tests done and an elimination diet but finally found out what foods caused me problems and took them out of my diet. Now for the most part I feel fantastic.
I'm not suggesting you have EG I'm just making the point that a lot of us have other issues going on too. My suggestion would be to continue on gluten-free for a few more months and then if your not feeling a whole lot better to start making the rounds of the doctors again. But with your history I'd start with a good allergist...

I love Thai! We have a few restaurants around us and I went into one of them between lunch and dinner to talk to them about gluten-free. One of the people there spoke OK english and I sat down with her and the cook and we discussed it.
A lot of Thai food is naturally gluten-free. I explained to them about the transfer of gluten-free in oil, now they cook my spring rolls in a clean wok with unused oil for me when I come in (which is pretty often). There were really a lot of dishes I could eat and they use almost no loose flour in the place near me.
I've eaten there many times without any problems but when I go in I remind them (its a really tiny place and you can see the chef cook) that I need no gluten, new oil, etc.

I'm sure your letter is serious to you, but really! If you had a different medical condition where say... you had to walk 3 miles a day or die would she say, "hey its taking time away from me I don't want you to walk anymore?" Of course not. This is a serious medical condition that can make you chronically ill and shorten your life unless you remove gluten from your diet. (i'm older and perhaps have a more clear view of what things are important in life)
Personally I'm of the mind that even for people that can eat gluten, eating a lot of it is just not healthy. Lets face it baking usually involves sugar, lots of calories and very little nutrition. She may enjoy it but I'm not sure she is doing anyone any favors by baking all the time.
Why doesn't she spend the time learning how to cook in a healthy way without gluten? Lots of fresh veggies, fruits, lean protein. My house is totally gluten free and my daughter didn't complain at all when that switch was made... she didn't really know.... I just switched things, instead of pretzels I bought her corn chips, I discovered new sorts of dessert things we can eat, we became discriminating consumers of chocolate. (now we have found out my daughter has to be gluten-free as well). Now even though we occasionally have sugary snacks we have lost our craving for them. We are by far thinner and more healthy now.
However, you all have to decide what sort of foods your going to eat and yours has partly been decided for you. No gluten, period. Tell her to find something else to worry about. I'm also a firm believer that to worry about things you CAN'T change is just a waste of good worry time! And this can't be changed. Worry about world peace, the changing climate, homelessness and figure out how you can make changes there.
Tell her you love her, you feel so much better without gluten and its not a big deal.

Thanks, I'm going to read the descriptions and try again. I'm going to order a bit darker this time, so thanks for the tip about mixing them.
My bathroom is going to be filled with pots!
It was easier when I used just a single liquid foundation but with dry skin and a lot of moisturizer it would literally just slide off after a few hours. I've had better luck with mineral make up staying on and it takes the sheen off my skin which I like.
My only real complaint about mineral make up is its a pain to travel with and I travel often. Which is one of the reason I'm hoping I can work out Everyday Minerals... they sell tiny pots which is better for travel.

I did get a sample kit and I asked the customer service people at Every day minerals to help me choose. I sent them a number of pix of myself that showed my skin. I know the color on a computer monitor isn't exact but this pix were taken in daylight with no make up and were pretty right on. Oh well!
One of two of the foundations I can sort of use, but almost all of them were WAY to yellow for my skin and way too light. I'm a blonde but if I go out in the sun I tan and never burn so my skin isn't as fair as it looks. I'm a little bit bummed, its not anyones fault but I was excited to try this. Back to the drawing board.
I'll try one more time but this how it turns out to be far more expensive then Bare Minerals... its trial and error whereas with BM I can try them on in Sephora.
Even the blushes I got look pink in the pot but when I put them on my face they turn sort of an orangey hue. That might have something to do with my moisturizers, I have very dry skin and I wear a lot of moisturizer.
I'm surprised no one wants the unopened eye shadows, I'm on a Bare Minerals list and not only do they trade unopened BM all the time but they trade "used once" pots too!
Oh well they are here for the asking.
I wish there was an easier way to pick this make up out.

I just got my first order, I've not tried any of them yet but the foundation colors look a little more yellow then I thought they would. Ugh, I'm not sure any will be right for my skin.
I got some brushes and stuff for free gifts and I received 2 eyeshadows that I know I don't want. They are unopened, if someone would like them I'd be happy to put them in a padded envelope and send them to you. I can tell by looking they are not colors I'd ever wear.

I've be gluten-free a long time and never have made lasagna since I've been gluten-free. What's timely about this post is that I was at Whole Foods the other day and bought Tinkyada lasagna noodles!
When I was eating regular noodles before celiac, I'd use regular noodles and pretend they were no boil. I'd make the whole concoction a lot more watery. So I'd mix the red sauce with a bit of water and put it all together like that. I'd check it about 3x during cooking to see if it needed a bit more liquid and add if necessary.
The lasagna never fell apart this way and the noodles took on a lot of flavor. However... I've never done it with gluten-free noodles but I'm not sure why it would be any different?
Has anyone tried this?

I come at this from the same direction as April, my daughter has a life threatening allergy to peanuts.
And I did eat peanut butter not only thru my pregnancy but all my life, I use to love the stuff (needless to say we now don't have any in our home nor do I ever eat it).
In my family there are no food allergies. However my daughter was born with severe food allergies, soy, wheat, dairy... tons of them and since I was nursing her we found that if I even ate a tiny bit of those foods she would react, so I cut them out of my diet when she was 4 months old.
At about 3 years old she had outgrown most of her food allergies (except for peanuts and tree nuts) and so we both began eating regular food. Back then I didn't know I had Celiac and for those few years felt pretty good. I didn't realize at the time it was because I wasn't eating any gluten, it took 11 long years to figure that out.
Now my daughter can't have gluten either.
However, it was just the other day I read in the paper that after more exhaustive research (so they say) researchers could not link a peanut allergy to the mother consuming peanuts during pregnancy, so who knows.

I just went back to Outback for the first time in ages... the gluten-free menu was different from the last time I was there and the Blue Cheese dressing is no longer gluten-free. Bummer! I had ranch but it tasted like mayo to be honest.
Next time I go I'm going to bring my own Boar's Head blue cheese to mix in the ranch dressing!

I have celiac and food allergies, I'm very sensitive to gluten. I go out to eat often and I travel a lot for both work and play and I almost never have a problem. Just like you virtually the only place I ever get glutened is at other peoples homes!
Now for me even considering buying an RV to avoid glutening would be a crazy idea (totally hates anything that resembles camping) however if your family does it often and really enjoys it, maybe its the way to go!
I hope you can figure this out and make it work for you.

I've been following this thread and ordered just a few days ago, so I won't get this new special - bummer. I'm a Bare Minerals user and if EM works as well I'll be saving a whole bunch of money with them.
However when I read the new special a few posts above I have to tell you the name "New Car Smell" turns me off! Yeah I know its nice to actually own a new car but it's not very feminine to name a make up color after the smell. Oh well what do I know!

Actually the answer is really no, most drugs that we use on kids were never tested on children. A drug gets approved and rarely are they approved for an age group only. Antidepressants are an example, tested and initially used on adults but then doctors began to use them on younger and younger patients.
After they were used a while on teenagers and young adults they found that in some teen patients the use of antidepressants increased the risk of suicide, but this wasn't known initially because this side effect doesn't show up on the adults the drugs were tested on. So once the FDA realized that it had a side effect they put a "black box" warning on antidepressants for children, teens, and young adults. A black box warning is the highest level of risk the FDA has for a drug.

I just wanted to say hi to all the new young people on the list (no I'm not a teen... but I have one... does that count?).
My daughter has a life threatening peanut allergy and its allergic to nuts too and now she had a positive Celiac test. (I have celiac and have been gluten-free for at least 5 years). Even though all of the meals I cook are gluten-free, she is feeling gyped right now because she can't go out and have pizza with her friends and such.
I'm not sure that she will stay gluten-free (she is 16.5) but I hope so, not only does she feel better but her personality is different now that she has been off gluten for about 3 weeks. She is far more calm, settle, less anxiety. Really to me the mood change is huge.
I can tell you this, if you give this some time, a lot of your bread cravings go away and you also learn about products that are really good. I buy Chebe bread mix... its easy to mix up and we make a flat bread with it in the oven, we use it to dip in oils (olive oil, garlic, parsley, red pepper flakes) and for pizza. Both my daughter and I really love it just out of the oven.
So welcome to the list and hang in there for a while... it gets easier.
