  1. Thank you for posting that! Really fascinating.
  2. Thanks so much for the response, Gemini. I'm very glad to know that the protein issue is not uncommon, and you've prompted me to talk to my doc about the calcium level. I don't want to leave any stone unturned until I am well... it's just such a long and grueling process! But it is very helpful to know that others have gone through similar trials and have...
  3. Hi all, I just received CBC results showing slightly elevated blood calcium (10.8, with ref range 8.6 - 10.2) and protein (8.4 with range of 6.2 - 8.3). This is the first time these numbers have been out of range in the 2 years that I have been inexplicably ill. My parathyroid hormone was checked about 9 months ago and was normal then. Does anyone know...
  4. GlutenGuy, I am too new to all this to be qualified to give advice, but I looked at your profile after reading this post, and so much of your story was familiar to me that I felt compelled to respond, if only to wish you well. I haven't been gluten-free for as long as you have, but I have been sick for just as long, and know what it's like to have your...
  5. So I had to learn this lesson the hard way, again, last night. Just a tiny amount of wine -- no more than 2 ounces -- and I was up for 3 hours in the middle of the night and still feel quite toxic today. This after a wonderful string of nights when I slept well (and what a blessing it is when that happens). I really miss being able to enjoy a little...
  6. Hi Sniffy, I'm not an expert and am still new to all this myself (and not yet healed), but I can definitely relate to your shortness of breath problem. This has been a big issue for me--I've had my lungs listened to repeatedly and had an asthma test (though in the healthy years of my life I NEVER had a breathing problem before), and all was apparently...
  7. hang in there =) You can do it;)

  8. Hi Cherie, I don't have much advice, but I wanted to let you know that I share your experience. Mornings are always my toughest times. Often I don't sleep well, which makes mornings particularly arduous, but even when I do sleep well I feel extra tired, achy, foggy, and depressed when I get up. Perhaps it is a blood sugar issue, as Ang1e suggests. ...
  9. Thanks for all the helpful thoughts, everyone!
  10. Well, I'm pretty sure that the can said "no preservatives" -- it was just coconut and guar gum (can't find any without guar gum). There are a couple of other things I'm suspecting might be a problem, so I'm not certain about anything, but so far coconut milk seems a very likely suspect for me.
  11. Hi All, In keeping my food journal, I have found some evidence that coconut milk, which I've been using often as a cream substitute, seems to be giving me increased brain fog and fatigue. Has anyone here experienced this? Just curious.
  12. Hi all, I have a small but persistent rash, probably eczema and not Dh (it's usually not itchy or blistery), which definitely seems to be connected to my diet -- it has only started to get better since going gluten-free. It seems like it is also sensitive to other foods, however, since it is still coming and going periodically; the problem is that I can...
  13. Thanks, all, for your thoughts. You are certainly correct that deli meat from a shared slicer is really too big a risk to take, and I will forgo it from now on. In this case, however, I'm still suspecting the Lexapro, and I'm going to try to stay away from that as well. If my nighttime anxiety persists, then maybe I'll try halving the dose (with the doctor...
  14. Thank you for the responses! I didn't mean to indicate that I thought I was reacting to *gluten* in the Lexapro, since I did check before taking it to ensure that it is gluten-free. I am just trying to figure out what sort of reaction (either to the meds or to a possible CC -- since it can be hard to tell the difference) I was having, and wondering if anyone...
  15. Hi all, Yesterday I took two dubious steps and paid for one of them with a strong reaction, and I'm wondering if you can help me sort it out. I had been feeling a lot of improvement of my symptoms for the previous days with the exception of insomnia, which produces a lot of anxiety for me. So my doc suggested Lexapro, saying that it is very well tolerated...
  16. I definitely think this is the case. I started having breathing problems for the first time about a year into being generally and inexplicably sick. Doctors couldn't find anything wrong but diagnosed "very mild asthma" and gave me an inhaler, which didn't help much even though I used it frequently. Since going gluten free a couple months ago, I've seen...
  17. Yes, I have thought of this... but at least I'll probably get a better idea of whether casein is a problem. There's just a small amount of yogurt involved (1/4 cup spread out in 8 muffins), and if this goes okay, then I'll try a small amount of the raw yogurt again, and then build from there. I'm also being wary of nuts, and staying away from them at...
  18. Hi Pele, Thanks for your thoughts here, and for those in an earlier response to me that I only just saw today. As of yesterday, I have, painfully, cut out the dairy . Ironically, I had just made some awesome almond-flour muffins using the yogurt (but no other casein). I've frozen them, and I'm hoping to give them a try again in a few days -- but it...
  19. I have the same experience -- and it is definitely a bummer not to have the pleasurable effects of alcohol anymore. I go straight to the feeling extremely tired part after just one small glass of wine (which used to happen only after several drinks), skipping that nice relaxed buzz part entirely. I'm really hoping that when my body heals, eventually, I...
  20. Thank you all for the responses -- I think I'll keep on with the yogurt for another day or two before cutting it. Cheese I will avoid starting now. I'll let you know if I have any success!
  21. Dear SCDers, I have a question about the 24-hour SCD yogurt. I just started with it about five days ago, and since then I have been feeling noticeably worse. I had felt that I was on a pretty good, though gradual, path of improvement with the gluten-free diet and then the SCD, but a day or so after starting the yogurt my brain fog increased, along with...
  22. wschmucks -- if you'd like to share, I'd be curious to hear what you and your doctor came up with, and if you're getting some relief. Hope you're doing well.
  23. Ikonya- That's wonderful to hear, and thanks for the tip! It can be SO hard to find a remedy for insomnia -- it's great to hear you found one that works for you. Do you experience any side effects from the Tryptophan? Do you think that the quality of sleep you get from it is good? best, Emily
  24. I think the previous responders are right on the money in saying that gluten intolerance is not widely accepted (or at least not widely thought about) in the medical community. If it were, then it would not have taken me FOURTEEN doctors even to get the suggestion that gluten might be causing my problems. No kidding -- I went to thirteen different doctors...
  25. I'm not certain, but I think both Pro- and Nuvigil contain gluten. Before I started suspecting gluten as a cause of my own chronic fatigue and brain fog, I did try Nuvigil, with terrible results. I only felt worse! I can handle some jitters, but only if they come with some extra energy--which was not the case. Previously I've had much better luck with...
