  1. My allergist said having blood work done is useless because it can comeback with false positives. I did have the needle testing in my back and wish I would have had him do one for wheat just to see what the results would have been. Has anyone ever had both and what were your results? I am talking about for any kind of foods, not just wheat products.
  2. My post is probably confusing. I don't get cross contamination that often or do I vomit that often. Last two times I vomited was the first 6 months of being diagnosed, so this past week was only the third time. I was traveling this last week and that's how I got a bad batch of breakfast potatoes. I was just curious about others reactions and if they were...
  3. Razzle, I never said anything about cheating (yes, maybe at first, but not after 4 plus years). I am just asking if when people do get hit are they vomiting! Yes, I tried a donut once when first going gluten free, but no, after 4 plus years I do not cheat. By me saying I can handle cross contamination does not mean I am cheating, it means occasionally...
  4. Does anyone vomit after being glutened? I'm not talking about if you touched a few breadcrumbs and ate them. If you have just one oreo cookie, does it make you throw up? I can handle a little cross contamination, but I had some breakfast potatoes that were cooked with wheat (they mixed flour with the potatoes) and it made me vomit. I also had a donut...
  5. Has anyone ever had problems while hiking due to certain plants in the area? I was recently on a hike with family and this plant (Avena Fatua) was all over the place. It's also know as "wild oats." I became very bloated and have never had this happen before. Open Original Shared Link
  6. Meant to say I have a pic of the wheat like plant that is all over the island.
  7. We are in Catalina for the 4th of July and went hiking this morning. I had problems with bloating this morning on our hike and was wondering if anyone else has been on the island hiking and experienced problems? I have a picture of the wheat like plant but can't post to this page from my iPhone. If you want to see the pic, please post your email address...
  8. J.W. Marriott on Pennsylvania Ave. Excellent dinner and breakfast. We ate in the Avenue Grill at night and in the morning. Have fun!
  9. Are blood tests good for food allergies? My allergist said they can come back with false positives and that's why he recommends the skin test. I am having the skin test next week. My primary wanted to order blood work but I think I may just do the skin test.
  10. I ate at the breakfast buffet in D.C. at the Marriott and didn't have any problems. I also had dinner there the night before and the food was excellent! They give you the same menu that everyone else gets, except your menu has the gluten-free foods highlighted. I wish every restaurant would do this.
  11. Go to Sparkspeople.com. It's a great site that allows you to track what you eat daily so you can see how much fat, protein, carbs you are eating. It's amazing how quickly things add up. I was eating a handful of pistachios or almonds and an apple with peanut butter for just my morning snack, and I couldn't believe the amount of fat. Anyway, the site...
  12. I have found that lying down for ten minutes helps me when I get bloated. On your back or side seems to break it up. It's almost like standing up has all of your insides resting on the bottom so the air is trapped. When I lye down it helps spread everything out and releases the air. I know this sounds crazy but it does work for me.
  13. I feel for you. I am going to an allergist next week and I will die if they say I need to avoid milk products! I live for ice cream and cheese!
  14. Good to know! I also agree about Udi's and toast. Yum!
  15. Are you taking any vitamins? If so, stop them for a couple of days and see how it looks then. Are you drinking at least 6 glasses a day?
  16. We make chili dogs. Ground turkey is good(not ground turkey breast) and makes great tacos if you add the taco seasoning packets. Or you can make spaghetti with the ground turkey and just add Bertolli spaghetti sauce with Quinoa spaghetti noodles. You can't tell it's gluten-free. We also make a lot of fajitas with corn tortilla and chicken (occasionally...
  17. I know Celiac disease isn't an allergy, but I was wondering how many people with Celiac get tested for allergies to see if they are allergic to corn, milk products or anything else? My bowels are not a 100% so maybe I have something else going on. Do most gluten-free people have normal bowels after 2 1/2 years? I feel pretty good overall.
  18. Betty Crocker choc. cake is great, but I don't like the Betty Crocker white cake mix.
  19. What do you keep your TSH level at? I know there are new ranges and I am just wondering if other go by the new ranges or the old ranges and if so, how do you feel?
  20. What test is done to check your adrenals? My last thyroid test was 3.3. Is this normal because I always feel tired and barely make it through the day. I also have put on 10 pounds and have never had a weight problem. Can't tell if I am starting menopause or if it's my thyroid. I'm in my early 40's so who knows!
  21. Did the enzymes help with your bodies ph? What brand of enzymes do you take?
  22. Does anyone take enzymes? What type and have they made a big difference?
  23. In case anyone is interested in a gluten-free bakery in Orange County, Calif. Good to know that we can order a birthday cake like everyone else. I haven't tried them yet but will next time I head home. Open Original Shared Link
  24. I've had burning skin too, but no rash. Mine is on my left calf and feels as if I burned my calf or scraped it. There isn't anything to see, just the burning. Not sure if it's related to peripheral neuropathy.
  25. The restaurant in the hotel also has a great gluten free menu. Same menu that everyone else gets but they highlight the food on the menu in a different color that is gluten free. I will definitely stay here again!
