ARCHIVED Are People Just Ignorant Or Inconsiderate?gf-soph replied to jasonD2's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease I don't think you've done anything wrong, but I do think you need to speak up. I don't expect others to think through all the possibilities of cross contamination, though I have trained my family and close friends pretty well by now. Try and put yourself in their position, if you only knew the very basics of celiac would you have known not to touch your used...

I definitely second that you need to get your iron levels up, I have had significant problems with iron and b12 for years and I have learnt from experience that the levels where I am significantly affected are well within the low normal range. Crushing brain fog is all to familiar, and it makes it very hard to think clearly or be positive about things. ...

ARCHIVED Constipation While On Elimination Dietgf-soph replied to Loey's topic in Related Issues & Disorders I'm doing an elimination diet too, only veggies are potatoes, celery and swede, no fruit or grains. I eat as much celery as I can handle, but I also find things easier when I have a little extra fat in the diet. I don't absorb fat too well, so as long as i keep it moderate it helps the situation. Also make sure you are getting plenty of liquid to stay hypdrated...

I will cast my vote as 100% you need to be gluten free. I too had a gastro who said that positive blood work and a negative biopsy (in your case inconclusive) meant no celiac, but he didn't even mention gluten intolerance. I was extremely sick for another year before a good dr set me straight, and I started gluten free. A lot of your symptoms sound very...

ARCHIVED I'm About To Start An Elimination Diet...gf-soph replied to StacyA's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease You won't want to hear this, but you really should get rid of the soda as well as the coffee. I would suggest gradually reducing it over a couple of weeks if you are concerned about withdrawals. If you are going to all the effort of a proper elimination diet it seems a shame not to cut out something you know your body is addicted to. Also, soda is full of...

ARCHIVED Does Anyone Have This Problem?gf-soph replied to Rowena's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications For my part I do see a bit of a difference in comparing the shared facilities warning with a shared household. I think the biggest difference is the transparency - I know every procedure in my house that keeps the gluten out of the kitchen, I can monitor it directly and set in place procedures that I am comfortable with. It also involves trusting just 3 people...

Others have mentioned iron, I will second that. Also check B12 if you haven't already, as it also causes anemia and similar symptoms. I have had iron and B12 problems for years, and they can both cause shortness of breath, shallow breathing, and a lot of sighing. Make sure you get a full iron panel (total iron and ferratin), b12 and get folate tested too...

I am doing an elimination diet at the moment, and one of the information pages for it said that hormones can definitely affect food intolerances. This was tied in with recommending women with food intolerance go off the pill and see if their symptoms improve, and was also put forward as an explanation of why there may be more women with food intolerance....

ARCHIVED Need Help Re: Blood Work Resultsgf-soph replied to Momma Ta's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease Different labs have different reference ranges for these tests, so it would help to interpret if you can post the ranges for those tests.

ARCHIVED Results Day Loominggf-soph replied to loubyloo's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms I haven't had exactly the same experience, as I was sick for a lot longer before a good dr told me that I was non-celiac gluten intolerant, and that I needed to go gluten free. By the time she told me that I was so glad to have an answer to why I felt so sick that I was fairly happy to do it. Before I went gluten free I couldn't eat any uncooked veggies...

ARCHIVED Not A Good Day At The Hospital And Feel So Lost Now.gf-soph replied to Dellers's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease I would seriously consider making a complaint with a dr like that. I think a lot of terrible drs get away with treating patients like dirt as sick people aren't likely to have the energy to complain. This dr is a jerk and he doesn't know what he's talking about. If you hadn't done your own research you might believe him, and you would continue to be...

I know exactly where you are coming from. It takes me back to an analogy I came across years ago, that self control is like a muscle. There is only so much strength there at one time. The good thing is that the more you use it the stronger it will get, but if you are having to use up almost all your self control at one time it won

ARCHIVED Some Help, Pleasegf-soph replied to Sevenoclk's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms My experience as a NCGI is that gluten can cause us all of the same problems as people with diagnosed celiac. The only potential difference is that a 'gold standard' diagnosed celiac has villous atrophy found on biopsy. It may be that I had villous atrophy but they didn't find it using the 4 samples they took, as damage can be patchy. It may be that I was...

ARCHIVED Celiac? Main Symptoms Are Gi And Hivesgf-soph replied to jessicalw28's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms Since your dr is open to the idea of testing for celiac, if your next appointment isn't too far away I would stay on the gluten until then. If you go off gluten now then further testing will be invalid. Saying that, even with negative testing it could be a good idea to try the gluten free diet, as you do have a lot of symptoms that could indicate that. ...

My guess is that they also process nuts and add flavouring, which may contain wheat, and want to cover their bases. Also some companies that make packs of nuts also seem to make cracker and nut mixes, which would have wheat. Goes to show you just can't trust anything! Hopefully you haven't been glutened, if the shells are intact and they seemed clean then...

ARCHIVED Hot Skingf-soph replied to Mexican Trailrunner's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms I've had rosacia, which is the hot red face, often in a 'butterfly' over the cheeks and nose. The face goes red and hot, sometimes even purple, and can stay that way for hours. It's worse on gluten but I've still had it on and off over the 2 years gluten free. It's triggered by MSG and some other food chemicals, and I also tend to get it when I'm sick. ...

ARCHIVED Ugh! Why Do I Still Feel Sick?gf-soph replied to LMac's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease It sounds more likely that you are going through a gluten withdrawal than being glutened. I'd give it a couple more weeks before you worry too much about it being a gluten exposure. You are giving your body a big shock by taking out gluten, and a lot of people feel worse before they feel better. Gluten can act on the brain, so your headaches could be withdrawal...

ARCHIVED Are Some A Little Ocd?gf-soph replied to realmaverick's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease I totally get why you are asking the question, I can see why a new person to the board might read some posts and feel a bit concerned about whether they need to go as far as others. On a basic level, I do believe that people vary in their sensitivity, as well as the severity of their symptoms, and any secondary problems. All these factors are significant...

ARCHIVED Watermelon And Honey Sensitivies?gf-soph replied to revenant's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease Honey and watermelon are both big problems for people with fructose malabsorption. Soda would be a problem most likely because of the high fructose corn syrup in most soft drinks. With those 3 things all causing problems it sounds like it is a good idea for you to do some research into fructose malabsorption as well as what are known as FODMAPS. The good...

ARCHIVED A Vent About My Family.gf-soph replied to revenant's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs Your symptoms on gluten sound awful, I'm impressed that you even had the energy to figure it out, let alone go gluten free! It's horrible that you are having to go through this unsupported, it says a lot about your strength of character that you are fighting through. The fact that your mother knows she has a problem with gluten yet continues to eat it...

ARCHIVED Ibs - A Disease Of It's Own Or Just A Symptom?gf-soph replied to Courtney101's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms I was given the IBS "diagnosis" when I had positive gluten blood tests and a negative biopsy. I went gluten free and had great improvements, but still had significant problems. I had more testing recently and was given IBS again, and recommended low dose antidepressants. The dr said it wasn't to reduce anxiety but to improve the signalling within the gut...

ARCHIVED I'm On The Rpa Elimination Diet Aka Failsafe Dietgf-soph replied to gf-soph's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut Well the definite best advice is to keep a food diary. Make it as detailed as possible, and keep a running column beside the food listing with any symptoms you have, and some sort of severity score. It helps hugely in working out patterns over time. The annoying thing is that there is no single right way to do it. Sometimes you have to look at the options...

ARCHIVED Colonoscopy And Cancergf-soph replied to Mexican Trailrunner's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease I had a colonoscopy about 18 months after going gluten free as I still had gi problems and persistent iron and B12 deficiency. They were looking for Crohn's. Luckily I don't have it, but they did find a precancerous polyp which is very uncommon for my age, 25. I now will need to have a colonoscopy every 3 years, as the polyps take about 5 years to turn cancerous...

Like skylark I'll mention amines and the RPA diet. I'm also not sure why you feel better with the carbs, but maybe it slows down how quickly the meat hits your system, or provides some extra energy which helps to buffer? Have a look at this page Open Original Shared Link I am on the RPA elimination diet and my dietician says that different amines can...
