ARCHIVED Symptoms Other Than Gi
judy05 replied to Rachel--24's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
some of my symptoms were abdominal pain, spots in front of my eyes, dry/itchy eyes, insomnia, acid reflux, anxiety, skin peeling on fingers, cramps/pain in right leg, vertigo, fear of leaving the house, sinus congestion, thyroid problems, some diarrhea and constipation, nausea (a lot). I'm doing a lot better but I am on medication for the acid reflux and... -
ARCHIVED Medicare And Special Diets
judy05 replied to Portageegal's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Just wanted to add something. Don't pay any attention to them when they complain about their costs, they are making plenty of money, you wouldn't believe how much! They employ people and pay them the least amount they can get away with. Another source in nursing home is the Social Worker. You should have one assigned to you. -
ARCHIVED Medicare And Special Diets
judy05 replied to Portageegal's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
When my Mother was in a nursing home they admitted a man on a gluten free diet, they bought special food for him, I don't know if it cost the family extra, they should have to accomodate you, just like they do for diabetics. I know they have sugar free foods because my mother received them, she had diabetes, wasn't on medication, controlled by diet. As... -

To answer the question about feet cramping, I too have had it. Like I said before, you name it, I've had it. I never found out what caused it, but it went away. My feet used to cramp on the top. -
ARCHIVED Do You Ever Just Not Care?
judy05 replied to Janelson's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Doctors don't know. In medical school they have been taught that this disease is very rare. My own physician sends all of his digestive problem patients to a GI doc. He's not interested in screening patients. Forget about them knowing about gluten-free foods and drugs. My GI doc doesn't know what meds are gluten-free. He also wants me to eat wheat because... -
I had what is called a goiter. We found it accidentally when I had an MRI. After that it started to grow and I couldn't wear sweaters tight around my neck. I was sent to an Endocrinologist who did a nuclear scan and diagnosed it as a hot nodule. I chose to have it removed surgically and they found it to be benign and my left thyroid had totally destroyed...

I can definitely relate. I had pain in my neck and shoulder area for years. A physical therapist said they felt like "grape clusters" only harder. No one could explain why I had them, an MD called them muscle spasms and I took a lot of muscle relaxants which helped. When I went gluten-free they went away and so far haven't returned (YAY)!

ARCHIVED Is Anyone Else Concerned About All Ibs Publicity?
judy05 replied to mytummyhurts's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I think anything that calls attention to the "gut" is a good thing. More people might go to the doctor requesting this drug and might even get screened for Celiac, depending of course on the physician. I recently had an eye exam and found out the doctor had Celiac. He said he had been diagnosed as a resident at the Mayo Clinic. He also said there is quite... -
ARCHIVED Getting Tests Without Reasurance
judy05 replied to rainbow's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi Rainbow, Glad to hear that things are moving along. Don't be afraid of these procedures, most of us have had one or both done. Yes, nausea is another symptom of gluten intolerance. Actually there are over 200 symptoms, I'm sure someone on here can direct you to them. I myself had a lot of nausea, dizziness, diarrhea and stomach pain. I found out that... -
ARCHIVED Getting Tests Without Reasurance

You didn't say how old you are. Most doctors believe that everyone should have a "scope" of both areas at least once in their life, especially if you are over 50. These are diagnosing tools and have prevented a lot of diseases like colo-rectal cancer, lymphoma, etc. Anyone presenting with intestinal problems needs to have these done to rule out serious problems... -

ARCHIVED Anyone Taking Zoloft ?
judy05 posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
The spokesman for Pfizer told me that Zoloft is gluten-free. I couldn't find it on any of the list so I called to confirm. The phone number to call is 1-800-438-1985. This is the number for their medical info. -
ARCHIVED Levoxyl-
judy05 replied to jmj0803's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I take Levoxyl, the last time I checked it was gluten-free and I don't have a problem with it. -
I have had all kinds of problems with my eyes. Since I was very young I have suffered from migraine headaches( usually without the pain). You get an "aura" and your vision gets distorted, it gradully gets worse with bright colors and zig zag lines, usually in one eye only. It is very scary when your driving, you have to stop and close your eyes. I carry medication...

My brain fog started about 6mos before I went gluten free. It didn't stop until I went completely dairy free. Going without gluten helped but I was still bothered in stores, my eyes didn't feel right, I couldn't stand bright lights, my head felt like I was in another place, spacy. It usually occurred after eating but it took me a long time to figure it all...

ARCHIVED Is Endoscopy Traumatic/painful?
judy05 replied to hollyd's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I just had my second endo last week, it was easier than the first. Doc kept telling me to close my eyes and go to sleep. I don't know if I did but I don't remember anything. Hubby said it only took about 20 min. You have to wait a bit to get your gag reflex back before you can drink. The worst part for me was having to go to the bathroom dragging my IV along... -

I don't have Celiac (neg gene) and no damage to the villi, but I can't tolerate milk, yogurt, sour cream, but can tolerate hard cheddar cheese. If you are intolerant to dairy you probably always will be. I have tried Lactaid but it doesn't help.

ARCHIVED Ibs Vs Celiac Disease
judy05 replied to amiller1030's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
An Upper GI x-ray will not diagnose Celiac. Only an Endoscopy with a biopsy will confirm Celiac. This is the "gold standard" that most Drs accept, also a genetic test and a positive reaction to the gluten-free diet. It really depends on the physician. An Upper GI can reveal Acid Reflux which is often a precursor of Celiac. -
Meg, When you say you are avoiding lactose, do you mean all dairy or are you using lactose-free products? Most of us, not all, have had problems with dairy in the beginning because of the damage to the villi. I've been a year and a half and still can't tolerate dairy. Of course I am older and probably have more damage. For me in the beginning a food diary...

Hi Everyone, I think my daughter may have DH. I was looking for some good reading material which would be more specific about DH. I know you have to stay away from anything with Iodine. I want something to give her that addresses the diet, treatment, etc. Thanks in advance!

I also have IBS as well as gluten intolerance. My GI doc gave me a good recommendation, increase fiber. I take at least 2 Citrucel tabs or more daily. It helps both diarrhea and constipation. It has helped me immensely. The tabs are gluten-free. He said patients with IBS have more gas than the regular population. There are good books out by Heather Von Vorous...

Ruddabega, I too have thyroid problems. It started with a goiter which grew a lot, caused me to have tachycardia (very scary) and mucho anxiety. I had some nuclear tests which revealed a fast growing nodule. They decided to take the left thyroid out because the tissue was destroying itself( autoimmune). Thank God the nodule was benign! That seemed to...

Hi Countrygal, Welcome to the board! I have gluten and dairy intolerance and was diagnosed last fall with Diabetes. I don't take any meds, trying to control it with meds and exercise. I have a relative with Chron's and I know how she suffers with it. I also have spells when I get really hungry. my solution has been to eat protein along with my carbs, such...
