  1. Hi Curious, Your symptoms sound a lot like mine before I got diagnosed. I would feel like I was going to pass out, I was afraid to drive or go anywhere without my husband. I had to quit my job as a nurse because I was so sick. It is a very scary feeling. I went from one doctor to another. I would get sick after eating, got very pale, dizzy, rapid pulse...
  2. How about a banana split with fresh strawberries and blueberries with ice cream and marshmellows, I'm getting hungry. Also I like to cut up watermelon and cantelopes when they are in season. My husband makes tea biscuits with raisins and also gluten-free apple pie. Also maybe a few grapes and plums sitting on the table. I also used to make a concoction of...
  3. Mela, I have been following your story with great interest. Like you my GI doc said I don't have the gene for Celiac so I don't have the disease. I improved on the gluten-free diet up to a point at which I took matters into my own hands. I deliberately gave up all dairy and my brain fog and eye problems cleared up. I still had rt. sided pains and all...
  4. I think Keith Olberman, a newsperson on MSNBC at night, has Celiac Sprue, perhaps a letter writing campaign to him would help. I like him especially the way he ends his show, he throws away his paper and you hear glass breaking. His theme music is from Beethoven and I like that also..
  5. Sheila, Another important thing to know is that she needs to see a good gastroenterologist and to have a scope or endoscopy done. I don't know why a nurse would tell you that she was not a good candidate, that's only a decision that only a Dr. could make. I didn't want to have the endo done because I was so sick but my doc insisted and found that I...
  6. Sheila, The" brain fog "as you describe can actually come from dairy. If I were you I would advise her to eat very simply, boiled chicken, bland veggies and applesauce. If she has intestinal damage to the "villi" then she can't digest dairy either. I was sick for a whole summer 2 years ago and this is what I ate with a little variation for 3 months. My...
  7. Hi, I have been sick since childhood especially during winter and spring months. At 19 I started to take allergy shots. I was always the first to catch a cold and the last to get rid of it. I always had coughs, bronchitis that lasted for months. I married and had 2 children, always suffered from severe headaches, even migraines. All of my symptoms were...
  8. I've been tested 4 times for GB problems. This usually occurs if I eat too much fruit I know it's not appendix, I'm a nurse and the pain is not in that area. A long time ago I was diagnosed with dyskinesia which is a spasm in the common duct, there is a procedure to relieve that but it hasn't shown up on my test again. Of course the doctor won't do anything...
  9. Melanie, York labs test for IgG reactions, mostly delayed, whereas your reaction to soy sounds like an IgE reaction which can occur soon after eating, which is why it didn't show up on this test. You would probably test positive on a skin scratch test. This is my take on it, maybe someone else has a better explanation.
  10. celiac3270, Thanks for doing this. I would like to know if and how the medical community is doing to educate their physicians, both in school and out, on paying more attention to and testing more for celiac and gluten intolerance. They all need to be aware that there are over 200 symptoms and we are not all skinny little children with distended abdomens...
  11. Thanks Kvogt. Your answer makes sense to me. It's funny that I have been gluten-free for over a year and I'm still reacting to wheat, it wasn't as strong as the dairy and yeast but definitely needs to be avoided. I'm going to stay gluten free for life but I would someday like to do an elimination diet for dairy. Thanks for all of the comments, if this test...
  12. It was a 113 food IgG ELISA In Depth Panel. I'm going to try to follow it because I knew I had a problem with wheat and dairy. I was surprised about the corn, egg whites. Yeast doesn't surprise me because I have an allergy to mold. Corn syrup is in a lot of foods. I did the test because I was having right -sided pain and having trouble losing weight. I...
  13. Hi, I just got the results from my York blood test.I have been advised to avoid cow's milk, yeast, corn, egg whites, and wheat. The foods with no reaction include barley, gliadin(gluten),oats, and rye. I take that to mean I have a wheat (not gluten) intolerance. This next statement is the one that confuses me "Those with wheat intolerance...
  14. Gabrielle, I'm glad thet I had the Endoscopy done even though my biopsy was negative and the villi was normal. The doctor found severe esophagitis which was causing a lot of the acid reflux problem. It has to be checked every year because it can lead to Cancer. I'm glad that I had the whole tract checked, it is better to be aware of the problems instead...
  15. Jeepster Red, burning, itchy eyes were one of my first symptoms of gluten intolerance. This occurred all year round. I was receiving allergy shots which helped but it never went away even with antihistamines, eye drops , etc. My allergist got so upset about hearing my complaints that he through his hands up in the air and said "this project isn't working...

    ARCHIVED Dapsone

Hi, Dapsone has a lot of side effects. Docs don't like to prescribe it because of that. If they do it is only for a very limited time.
  17. Curvey, I have had pain in my ears and also on the side of my head. My allergist said they were caused by my sinuses. However a few nights ago my ear felt "weird". I couldn't stand to have the TV turned up, it was like being very sound sensitive. It only lasted about 15 minutes. I told my husband, but he didn't say much about it, he kind of goes along...
  18. Hi Lynne, My mother also had Trigeminal Neuralgia for many years. She died last month from heart failure. Hers would come and go, but she was pretty well controlled by taking Tegretol. She seemed to be bothered mostly by the change in seasons. Last October I took her out of the nursing home to stay with me but she suffered terribly because my house wasn...

    ARCHIVED Tremors

Hi, My mother, who passed away on Valentine's Day, suffered over 20 years with a condition known as Trigeminal Neuralgia. She had terrible pain along the nerve in her face. Her face really twitched a lot as she got older. They treated her with seizure medication, Tegretol, for a lot of years. It kept her pretty well stabilized but she had outbreaks when...
  20. Kathleen, I have the same problem. I don't have the Celiac gene, my biopsy was negative and villi not damaged. I did have a high reading on the IgA. My GI doc doesn't believe I have Celiac and won't give me a diagnosis. I have tried eating dairy and gluten again to prove a point and got sick again. No more for me I'm actually afraid of passing out like...
  21. I react to gluten on my skin, I don't have DH, and I technically don't have Celiac. I had a skin test for wheat which was neg and also the IGE test was neg. If my shampoo has wheat then my scalp itches. If I use makeup that contains gluten then my eyes get red, gritty and brain fog occurs. I know gluten molecules are to large to be absorbed but these reactions...
  22. I felt really good tonight, I walked into my favorite Denny's restaurant and I realized that most of the waitresses recognized me as having a gluten intolerance. They don't quite remember the term gluten or celiac but my server teased me and said "when you walk in the door we know that we have to clean the grill and get out the clean utensils." As she took...
  23. Michael, When you mentioned "dyslexia" a little "bell" went off in my head. In preparing for my thyroidectomy my endo doc gave me a book to read about endocrine diseases in which the author, a doctor from New York City, explained about a syndrome, group of diseases, which seem to occur in many individuals. It seems when one organ fails, such as the pancreas...
  24. Hi Nikki, I am glad to hear that you are going to try to limit lactose, that's a good first step. I don't usually have a problem with butter and as someone else said try to stick with hard cheese even if you have to melt it down for him, because it contains the least amount of lactose. He is so lucky to have a wife like you. I also have a wonderful husband...
  25. nikki, I am not lactose intolerant, I am casein intolerant. The lactose refers to the sugar in dairy but casein refers to the protein. Just like I am gluten (protein) intolerant I am also intolerant of dairy (protein). I have tried Lactaid tabs, soy milk, rice milk, goat's milk all of them bother me. I don't get diarrhea but as I said before I do get...
