  1. Hi Deb, I sort of did the same thing as you. I moved back to my hometown in Pa after living in Delaware for 30 years. My kids and my friends are there but I was getting so sick from the humid summers and living so close to chicken farms on one end of the state and chemical plants on the other. I wanted to come back to the mountains to get healthy...
  2. I developed a migraine today 30 min after drinking a cup of tea at a convenience store. The tea was decaffinated made by Lipton's in a yellow packet. I picked up a packet of sugar substitute, pink in color, which i thought was Sweet N Low. I'm going back tomorrow to find out for sure, what a stupid mistake. I usually get a migraine after an accident...
  3. After one and a half years of being gluten and dairy free I am still unable to get a good night's sleep. After reading your postings I am going to try to not eat soy for several days. Do you think one week would be enough time? I only slept good one night this week. I do have my elderly mother on my mind because she is not good, caught the flu in the...
  4. celiac3270, I'm sorry to see that you aren't feeling well yet. I met a man through a family friend who said that it took him 3years to heal, he is a lot older than you. Just a thought, have you given up dairy? Thats what I had to do and I know others have.
  5. Hi, I have had many of your symptoms in the past. I was treated with allergy shots , hay fever, grass, trees, etc. In 2003 I got much worse. My eyes were red and itchy, I started to have GI symptoms along with "Brain Fog", and shimmering pools of light in my vision. In addition to that I had severe pains in my neck, shoulder and legs. I was...

    ARCHIVED Gastritis

It depends, did they test you for celiac when they did the scope? If they did it must have been neg since you said it was neg except for the inflamed area. Were you tested by bloodwork for celiac? If I were you I would stay away from gluten until you are healed. Something you are eating is causing this (IMH opinion). Do you eat a lot of acidic type...

    ARCHIVED Gastritis

My Dr. put me on Nexxium and I went gluten free. Why didn't they give yousomething to reduce the acid ? If you are inflamed at the top of the stomach that usually means that you have a weak muscle and the acid is splashing into that area. Hope you find answers. Have you tried going dairy-free? Try keeping a daily journal of what you eat to try to zero...
  8. When I am traveling I can safely eat at Outback's Steakhouse they have a gluten-free menu. At Denney's I can safely eat hash browns, scrambled eggs and bacon. Just be sure they clean the grill beforehand and use a clean spatula. They have been very accomadating to me, I usually stop at the same one and they now know me. Also for a quick fix I can safely...

    ARCHIVED Gastritis

Dawter, I must urge you to see a gastroenterologist. I had "gastritis" for years. It turned out to be severe acid reflux and Barrett's ring around the esophagus. I have to have a scope every year because they can turn into cancer. Also acid reflux is often the first symptom of Celiac's. The Dr can do a biopsy of your small intestine and check the...
  10. My brother saw a program on Celiac recently. He lives in Delaware so it would have been on a Philadelphia station. He was actually telling me that a lot more people have it and are being diagnosed a lot more than they used to be. I have been trying to get him tested for months. Maybe it will finally sink in!!
  11. Muffin, If you had been sick for as long as I have you would thank God that you had something to eat that didn't make you sick. It took me alnost a year to feel better and I never want to be that sick again. There are lots of foods to eat. I'm learning more and more every day. More and more people are being diagnosed every day and by next January...

    ARCHIVED Tremors

I have fine tremors. The thyroid DR. said it was from the thyroid disease I had. They aren't as bad since I had half my thyroid removed.

    ARCHIVED Foot Cramps

I've been gluten-free for about a year and a half. I started to get cramps in my feet after starting the diet. I think it may be from not getting enough calcium. I can't drink milk but I do eat a piece of cheese from time to time. I also discovered that I have pre-diabetes and if my blood sugar is even slightly elevated I will get a cramp in one...
  14. Apparently I cried out during the colonoscopy. The doctor said everytime he advanced the tube I would cry. I was sedated and don't remember too much. He said he never had anyone react like that. My husband said that I told him, "i told you I was sick." I had no further pain afterwards, just felt out of it. They found one small benign polyp and...
  15. My husband and I were talking about this today. Would't it be wonderful to have a restaurant that would cater to all the "special" diets? We thought what we would like to see in it includes: Lo Fat, gluten-free. dairy free, vegan, lo carb, vegetarian, bakery, take outs, etc. I know we will probably never see this but if I only had some extra cash......
  16. Hi Kelly, You sound like me. I had what I called "brain fog" before and after going gluten-free. My GI Doc glossed over it. He is only concerned "bowel" problems. He just said some people complain about it. They don't seem to "get it" about how debilitating it can be. It ruins your concentration, socialization, and is just plain scary. I read...
  17. Sriddle 78, I can understand where you are coming from. When I was first diagnosed my doctor (GI) told me I had an allergy to wheat. As a nurse I thought my IgE was elevated. He told me to avoid wheat, rye, oats, barley, and distilled vinegar. He didn't think and still doesn't think it is celiac because my gene test, biopsy were negative and villi...
  18. Hi, I'm gluten intolerant. I tested Neg on my biopsy, no damage to the villi, and do not have the gene for celiac, yet I get terribly sick if I eat gluten or drink/eat dairy, casein, except for extra sharp cheddar cheese.
  19. Before going gluten-free the skin on my scalp itched all the time, no rash, just itched. After going gluten-free I read all the labels and my shampoo (Nexxus) contained wheat. I stopped using it and switched to Garnier Fructis and now no more itch.
  20. I used to suffer from constipation and took Citracel (gluten-free) for about a year. I only get diarrhea if I drink milk or accidentally ingest gluten. Lately I have been trying to stay away from anything with white rice flour and have been eating grapes and canteloupes for fruit and I don't have have any constipation. It's nice to take one less medication...
  21. Yes, After being gluten-free for 6 months I tried a bowl of oatmeal. About 6 hours later the pain and diarrhea started, I was in the bathroom all night, My husband wanted to take me to the ER but I was too sick to go. I was not myself for 3 days, he cooked for me and I gradually got better but I will never knowingly eat oats again.
  22. I had a weird reaction when I first started to go gluten-free. Everytime I consumed rice I would get an overall body chill to the point I would shiver and have to wrap up in a heavy blanket. To some extent I still get it especially this winter, I am constantly adjusting the thermostat.
  23. I don't think all popcorn is gluten-free. I know Act 11 is, I eat it and it doesn't bother me.
  24. Mela, Are you sure that your not getting gluten from a hidden source? I ended up in the ER because of a medication that contained wheat starch. I also had a rapid heartbeat and felt light-headed. Be sure to check your meds, lotions, shampoo, etc. Hope you feel better soon..
  25. Tarnalberry, I agree with you. I consider myself Gluten Intolerant because I had a biopsy but no damage (yet). I don't have the gene either but I cannot tolerate Gluten. I have intestinal and non-intestinal symptoms. I fervently believe they will someday find another gene for all of us who are not truly celiac. I participate in this board because...
