Andrew, I have to agree with bmorrow, I was diagnosed with Barrett's Ring around the Esophagus, it has to be checked every year because it can turn to cancer. I think everyone should have at least one Endo and one Colonoscopy at least once in their lifetime. You might find something other than Celiac causing your problem. I didn't want to got through that...

ARCHIVED Gluten Intolerant, But Not A Celiac?
judy05 replied to PreOptMegs's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I have gluten intolerance, not Celiac. I do not have the gene, my biopsy was neg, and the villi were not damaged. My GI doc will not give me a definite diagnosis but my blood test, IGA was 75 but ttg was negative. I do have other food intolerances which include dairy, yeast, egg white and corn. Who can figure?? I know gluten makes me sick so I don't eat it... -

Mpost. I've been a nurse for many years, if I can answer any questions I will but I am not allowed to recommend medications or supplements. There's never a silly question, don't be afraid to ask....Judy -
ARCHIVED Food Allergies Impeding Intestinal Healing?
judy05 replied to Emme999's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Kimberly, I ordered a copy of the book after reading your post and I was wondering does it recommend a lifelong commitment to this diet or are you actually "cured " after a year? I have given up most grains and the only thing I notice is that I feel bloated after eating potatoes. I'm not quite sure what i should be doing, I tested positive for 5 foods... -
ARCHIVED Symptoms?
judy05 replied to mpost's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
About the elevated white count, a slightly elevated one usually is a sign of an infection. A really elevated white cell count can be something entirely different. It is best to check with your MD about the count and what it means. If it was anything really serious they would not have done the surgery and probably started you on an antibiotic. Hope this helps... -
Bonnie, You might try going Dairy-Free for a while. A lot of my symptoms disappeared after removing these foods from my giet. A lot of Celiacs have a problem with this because of the damage done to the villi. I myself have an intolerance to wheat and dairy but am now able to eat Cheddar Cheese.

ARCHIVED Symptoms?
judy05 replied to mpost's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Julie, you sound like me. I didn't really notice a big improvement until I gave up on Dairy. Try going off for a week or two. I also had the York test and found that I was intolerant of Cow's milk, yeast, corn, egg whites, and of course wheat. I am trying to stay away from these things. I can eat cheddar cheese and I drink Calcium fortified OJ because Calcium... -
ARCHIVED It's Happening Again.....
judy05 replied to Canadian Karen's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
2nd posting Karen, I use Skelaxin for those pains, neck, shoulder, back and legs. I have a prescription for two pills three times a day. I always try to take the minimum dose (1/2 tab) and it is usually works. If I take 2 then I can't function. My husband also takes them. It is a muscle relaxer, Not sure if it is gluten-free but I've never had a problem... -
ARCHIVED Going To Cancel My Endoscopy
judy05 replied to Sheely's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Sheely, This is your decision to make, I just wanted to run my story by you. I also didn't want to be scoped because I was afraid of the anesthesia. After my thyroidectomy I developed a bronchial spasm in the recovery room I went into a bronchial spasm, that's how I woke up. I thought I was going to die, however the medical team was excellent, I recovered... -
ARCHIVED Do Neuralogical Symptoms Go Away?
judy05 replied to frenchiemama's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Frenchiemama, I was diagnosed at the age of 62, just in time for retirement I was like your Mom always sick, people don't believe you and attribute it all to stress, overwork, etc. I suffered with environmental allergies, got allergy shots for 20 years, also had thyroid problems and a lot of headaches, numbness in fingers, migraines, vertigo, you name... -
My GI doc solved my constipation problem. He told me to take Citracel tabs(gluten-free), the powder isn't. I go everyday at the same time. You must take a full glass of water. Hope this helps.

ARCHIVED Cd People W/ Acid Reflux & Gastritis
judy05 replied to rmmadden's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hi Cleveland Bob, I can totally relate to your symptoms. I was diagnosed in Oct '03 with Acid reflux, it was a severe case because when I had the Endo the GI doc found Barrett's Ring around the esophagus. It can lead to Cancer so I have to be "scoped" yearly. I have been on both Prevacid and Nexium(not at the same time). I find that caffeine makes it... -
ARCHIVED Self-diagnosis
judy05 replied to Saw's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Yes, there is a difference between Celiac and Gluten Sensitivity. I was diagnosed as Gluten Sensitive because I had a neg biopsy, no intestinal damage and was Neg for the Celiac gene. However, if you have the gene you can be gluten sensitive without damage to the villi, but if you continue to eat gluten you will probably develop damage and will have a Celiac... -
ARCHIVED Do You Call Companies To Ask About Ingredients?
judy05 replied to mytummyhurts's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I've called several, McNeil(tylenol), Campbell's, several local companies. They all knew what gluten is, were very courteous, one got back to me 2 weeks late but I appreciated that she did get back to me. As others have said they thank you for calling and usually send a bunch of coupons. I called Tropicana and they said any juices with a code number starting... -
ARCHIVED Stupid Questions..
judy05 replied to SabrinaLuvsGluten's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I have gluten intolerance, along with other food intolerances. My gene test came back negative but IGA elevated. I had no intestinal damage. If I had no damage to the intestinal tract then how could leaky gut occur? I've always been curious about how I developed the antibodies. I will bring this up when I visit my GI next month. -
ARCHIVED The Medical Community Are Clueless
judy05 replied to anewsprue's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
In defense of nurses, I am an RN who just retired after #30+ years. The only time I heard of Celiac was in nursing school. They taught us that it was a very rare disease which occurred in children with distended belly and severe diarrhea. I agree that the medical doctors and nurses need more education. Most of my work was in the psychiatric field and we... -

I also have had good luck with Denny's. They have a book under the counter where you can cross reference allergens with their food. They have been very accomodating about cleaning the grill and using clean utensils. -
ARCHIVED Desperate! Need Answer Fast.....
judy05 replied to Canadian Karen's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Karen, I know that you have been taking a new medication for a while, were these flares happening before you started on it? I would ask the pharmacist to copy the side effects listed on this medication in his PDR. Another thing I was thinking was a possible migraine attack, without the headache. I used to get the lights flashing in the corner of my eye... -
ARCHIVED Dental Floss?
judy05 replied to Wandering Hermit's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
The last time I went to my dentist I called ahead of time and told him about the gluten issue, he said that he knew because he had another patient who had Celiac. As he was ready to fill my crumbling tooth he swabbed a solution on my gum and in 10 minutes I had severe brain fog. My husband had to help me out of the office, I was so disoriented I could hardly... -
ARCHIVED Severe Corn Allergy Also & Looking For Help!
judy05 replied to bikerblue's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Hi Tami, I also have an intolerance to corn as well as wheat, egg whites, yeast, and dairy. I recently started to avoid corn because I had a test done at York labs. It is discouraging because corn is in so many products and is also hidden under different names. In order to keep from being overwhelmed by all of this, I am sticking to the very basics,... -

ARCHIVED Don't Know What's Wrong With Me...
judy05 replied to curiousifcd's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Almost everyone on this site will tell you that oatmeal is nearly always contaminated by wheat, in the fields and where it is processed. I, too, found Irish Oatmeal in my supermarket, tried it , and got terribly sick. I would advise you to avoid it for a while. There are some gluten-free cereals but not in mainstream stores. I buy them in Natural Food stores... -

judy05 replied to curiousifcd's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi Curious, Glad to help, that's what we are here for. You will find a lot of people who know a lot more than I do. The monitor and strips came from a doctor's order. My insurance covered the strips but I had to pay about 60.00 for the meter. It is Ultra lite by lifescan. they later sent me a rebate check so it actually didn't cost a thing. I test 4...
