I know it's been awhile since this thread was used, but I really have a few sleep problems which drive me almost berserk! Like you Traci, I have to sleep in a separate room from my hubby, otherwise I just can't sleep at all, and he doesn't either. I snore very loudly. Loud enough, that I often wake myself up with it. I also think I have sleep apnea...

ARCHIVED Support Groups In Australia?
Maggie1956 replied to Maggie1956's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
That should read * a lot OF brand differences* Maggie -
I'm wondering if there are any Australian support groups available? There are a lot od brand differences here and I need some directions. Maybe even other Aussies with celiac disease could email each other or something??? Any clues please? Maggie

Hi Freya, I don't know of any creams to help your son's itch, but I'd like to let you know that I'm thinking and praying for him, and you. I have a small patch on my ankle and it drives me almost mental when it is at it's worst. Maggie

ARCHIVED Low Carb Diet With Celiac
Maggie1956 replied to enigma's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Thanks everyone! I'm already beginning to loose some of the 'puffiness' I've had on my tummy for years. I know I'm overweight by about 15lb I guess. I think that cutting out all the foods which haven't been healthy for us each individually helps a whole lot. Then finding other good, healthy food which our bodies can handle is an absolute must.... -
ARCHIVED Help Please
Maggie1956 replied to Ron's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Hi. Thanks for this thread. It's helping me too, because today is only my tenth day gluten-free. I was dx/ed on 1st December. I know that things are a little different here in Australia, and a lot of what's available in USA and Canada isn't available here in OZ. I can't eat boiled rice, but I'm wondering, maybe I might be able to tolerate Arnott... -
ARCHIVED More Sensitive Now That I'm Gf?
Maggie1956 replied to captain's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I haven't had MSG for many years. I realised then that I was really uncomfortable after a meal in a Chinese restaurant. It just wasn't worth it. I haven't eaten peanuts for a few years either, as they give me migraines. Over the past nine days (since I started going gluten-free) I've discovered that soy, corn (I used to eat popcorn at every opportunity... -
I've had a couple of ultrasounds on my thyroid gland, once about five years ago, and about July this year. Also one fine needle biopsy done which was done around the time I had the first one done. I have a 'multi-nodular goitre', which is mainly on the righthand side. My thyroid gland is quite noticeable which I hate, but the dr says it is still...

ARCHIVED Anxiety?
Maggie1956 replied to LynnR's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Yeah, that's all me too. If I have more than one thing to do at a time, I just can't sort it out in my mind at all. If I have to talk to anyone (worse if it's a group of people) I get really panicy. Saying more than 'helo, how are you?" is a real problem. Where do I go from there?? I slurr my speech when I'm tired or nervous. That is embarrassing... -
ARCHIVED More Sensitive Now That I'm Gf?
Maggie1956 replied to captain's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I've been on gluten-free diet for 8 days now, and I'm sure I am a lot more sensitive to gluten now. It's good in a way. at least it helps to clear the clutter of trying to sort through ALL the rotten gluttenous food I've consumed. Now I can single it down to one or two mistakes I might have overlooked. Maggie -
ARCHIVED Joint Pain
Maggie1956 replied to I'm more celiac than you's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I forgot to mention before that I take glucosamine powder (around 30ml a day) for bone pain. I also have double strength apple cider vinegar. Maggie -
ARCHIVED Fatigue, Sore Throat
Maggie1956 replied to bklyn's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hi Bklyn, I'm still new to all of this too, so I'm not really sure if we all have the same reasons for our symptoms. But for me, when I am really tired and have a sore throat as well, it indicates that I have to slow down a little and reserve my energy. The sore throat, if ignored, will lead to having to spend the next day or two in bed and... -
Yes, BamBam, gluten will do that. Try not to be too overwhelmed. I've only been diagnosed (by blood test and biopsy) a week ago, and it does sort of hit you hard at first. Just take one step at a time. Remember you're never alone, we're all here for each other. There are alot of us who have been down the road of depression. Me one of them. I'm stilll...

I was a silly girl this morning too. Yes, I know you're all shoked. I have been feeling pretty good (not great, but improving) up till now, so guess what I did???? I decided to have JUST ONE Arnott's Gingernut biscuit and guess that happened? Yep, I got crook straight away. Stupid me! It taught me a lesson though. I knew it was full of gluten,...

Wow! Very interesting. Thanks Deb. Maggie

Yes McDougal, My pain is worst in the neck and down the back as well. I get it in other places but these are the worst ones. My doctor said that it is fibromyalgia, which it may be. I think that fibro probably goes hand in hand with celiac disease anyway. With fibro, there are 'points' which I think are nerve ends or something...sorry, my brain...

It is llike a light has come on! This forum is really incredible. There are so many things that we can share about, instead of all the years when we felt we were the only 'weird' person, who felt sick most of the time. I've had the pains in the abdomen all my life, and never had any idea. Recently, over the past couple of years, my doctor has mentioned...

ARCHIVED Delicious Cereal!
Maggie1956 replied to a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Oh I wish we had that here in Australia. It sounds so good. I am missing my porrige something chronic. Good old Uncle Toby's Oats. Not sure if you have it in America? I'm thinking of getting tapioca. I'm not too sure if I'd be ok with it though. I can't have oats, wheat, barley, corn, or rice. Does anyone know what tapioca is and whether... -
ARCHIVED Spelt Bread
Maggie1956 replied to scudderkidwell's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I personally haven't tried it, but I have a friend who we believe is coeliac. He was having spelt porrige and bread each day, thinking it was safe. He has the worst gluten intolerance I have ever heard of. I beleive he is coeliac too. He stopped having both after I told him it was a wheat product. He was getting severe bloating and pain and wondered... -
ARCHIVED Anxiety?
Maggie1956 replied to LynnR's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I also have been diagnosed with anxiety/depression and I'm on meds for it. Although, I can't say that I could discribe myself as rushing from one job to another!!! lol I just don't have the energy at all. Not even when I first get out of bed in the morning, and like you, LynnR, I have to rest (have a sleep usually) every afternoon for a couple of hours... -
ARCHIVED Joint Pain
Maggie1956 replied to I'm more celiac than you's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia/chronic fatigue about 4 years ago. I was prescribed pain killers, which often only make me more tired. Now I wonder if it is really just other symptoms of celiac disease?? Probably don't help my chronic constipation problem either. I'm only just finishing my first week since diagnosis, so I guess I'll find out..... -
Like you, McDougal, I am really new to this. I was only diagnosed last week through blood test and biopsy. I'm finding it a challenge and also interesting to begin learning what foods affect me now. I've been (or tried to be) gluten-free for 6 days. Now that I haven't been filling myself with things that made me feel so sick all the time, I'm finding...

Thanks Tom and Gypsyfey for your ideas of eating before going out to a friends place Christmas night, and also for the suggestion of taking my own food with me. They are great ideas that I will most likely take up. I went with my husband tonight to his work Christmas party. I was glad when the waiters brought out trays of food, as it meant it was...

Sorry Deb for not posting earlier. I got lost! I'm in Australia. Yes I do have a problem with oats, rice, maybe corn, I know peanut butter is out I tried a rice ceriel, which ended up tasting like a really badly made rice pudding. That was before I realised that rice makes me really sick as well. It seems that we don't have the great variety...
