  1. Going on vacation and was wondering if there were any gluten-friendly places in Estes Park? I am aware of a couple of places we can possibly get gluten-free groceries, but don't want to cook the whole vacation. Thanks!
  2. Response from La Casa Sena: "Yes we do and chef can always customize something for you as long as he knows." Response from The Bull Ring: "Yes, we can work with you on gluten free items on the menu." Response from Cowgirl BBQ: "We have many gluten free items on the menu. For those people that are very sensitive we sometimes have the problem of cross...
  3. I know there is an Olive Garden in Santa Fe. My husband, who has celiac disease, and I may be driving through (maybe staying the night) in Santa Fe. I contacted the following restaurants by e-mail, so hopefully, I'll get some answers. I contacted: Geromino La Casa Sena The Bull Ring Cowgirl BBQ Will also be contacting the Amavi restaurant shortly...
  4. Sorry I can't help, as I live in Iowa. But, after seeing your dachshund, I had to say hello! I am owned by Ozzy, a mini long-hair.
  5. We went to Adventureland theme park in the Des Moines, Iowa area. The Iowa Cafe offers a gluten-free menu, but you need to call in advance so they can be sure to have what you want on hand. We did not call, but they were still able to provide Roger with a gluten-free pizza (Not sure of the brand, but it had the word "International" in the title). Roger...
  6. We've always had good luck with Wendy's, and have had McDonald's fries with no problems. I'd watch out for Hardee's (Carl's) though. I treated myself to my favorite combo and found an onion ring in the fries. Hubby is celiac, I am not, so it was big deal. We just make sure we have enough food in the car with us, in case we cannot find any place that...
  7. We went to Olive Garden yesterday and they had the new gluten-free menu. The marinara sauce is gluten free, so they were able to make celiac hubby's pasta the way he likes it - lots of sauce! A much needed (and welcomed) change to the gluten-free menu!
  8. We are planning a trip and was wondering where I could get those bags that you can slip over gluten-free bread and toast in any toaster? Are they relatively safe to use? In the past, we've taken gluten-free cereal down to the "free breakfasts" in hotels, but I would like another option for celiac husband.
  9. Looks and sounds slightly better. Hopefully, they can put more sauce on the pasta. That is what my husband found so unappetizing - dry pasta.
  10. We are traveling to visit father in law. This is the first major trip we will be making since hubby was diagnosed. Just wondering if anyone knew of restarants in the area that would be OK.
  11. I don't know how widespread the Biaggi's chain, but it is an excellent place for gluten-free options. Their pizza is awesome, and they even have gluten-free bread for dipping. Hubby has never had a reaction from them.
  12. Husband might be making a business trip to Genoa, Italy. Just wondering what the gluten-free options are. It will be his first trip outside the United States since being diagnosed.
  13. My hubby has had celiac for a little over a year, but he has been Type 1 Diabetic for over 30. All our friends and family think nothing of our bringing food to supplement what is being offered, because that's all they've known.
  14. Not that I know of. A while back, we tried a letter-writing campaign to get them to offer a gluten-free crust, but they pretty much blew us off. Godfathers and Happy Joe's offers a gluten-free pizza crust. I'm wondering if we should target Papa Murphy's. After all they've been touting keeping their prices down since they don't have ovens, so not having...
  15. That's very good news! A little far for me to drive Hopefully this will be a success that translates to franchises all over the country!
  16. Godfather's offers a gluten-free crust. It's decent. Do you have a Biaggi's nearby? They make an awesome gluten-free pizza.
  17. For my birthday, we traveled to Coralville to the Iowa River Power Company for dinner. When Roger told the server he was gluten-free, the server immediately began pointing out menu items Roger could have. Their salads are mixed separately in bowls reserved for gluten-free needs. The steak was cooked separately on a clean grill. They had a flour-less chocolate...
  18. Thanks for the inputs. We probably won't be going to Applebee's anyway. The last time we were there, the service was poor and food not that great. We have had very good luck with Olive Garden, Biaggi's, Chili's, Red Robin, even Red Lobster. Several local places here have also been very helpful. Then again, husband is not very sensitive. He accidentally...
  19. Just watch which beans you put in your chili, Brooks chili beans have wheat in them. I use Bush's chili beans. Gluten-free Bisquick and Pamelas Mixes make great biscuits, however they work best as drop biscuits. Haven't found a decent gravy, yet. We tried to make regular gravy (sausage), and it turned out pretty bad. Beans and cornbread - I cook...
  20. Applebees has recently touted a new allergen menu, but it only reads, "Wheat Allergies." I still consider that a no-no because wheat and gluten are two different things, right? Am considering contacting them and saying, "not enough to get us to return."
  21. Happy Joes in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, is now offering a gluten-free pizza. It's in one size only (small), and they have the usual disclaimer about not being a gluten-free facility.
  22. I got hubby a salad from Subway and had them add meat to it. They put on new gloves and put down foil to make up the salad for me. Hubby did not react. I do have to say that he is not very sensitive. He accidentally ate the regular bread at Biaggi's, and nothing happened.
  23. A while back, our local newspaper featured an article about the small restaurants in our area, and how they "struggle" to keep patrons. Owners implied that they could not understand why people say they like the smaller, local restaurants, but then go and wait an hour for a table at a "chain" restaurant. So, I fired off a letter to the editor explaining...
  24. OK. It's hubby's first business trip since being diagnosed with Celiac, and I'm as nervous as when he took his first trip after being diagnosed with Type I Diabetes over 30 years ago. Any good restaurants in the Richardson area that he could try? Trying to stay away from chains so he can enjoy "native" foods. I have listings for Spring Creek Barbeque...
  25. Thanks for all the turkey ideas and I will watch out for the mashed potatoes. Now, I need a gluten-free pie crust recipe. The only one I can find around here is the Gluten Free Pantry box, which makes about 6 crusts, and I don't need that many crusts. Thanks!
