ARCHIVED Gluten Free Specific Food
precious831 replied to GFreeMO's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
When I was first diagnosed and was just gluten-free I did try and buy baked goods. But I quickly learned how to make my own so I stopped. Now I don't buy any at all, I make my own breads, cookies, rolls, name it. It's harder now because I'm grain-free among other things. I think gluten-free is a big business! LOL -

ARCHIVED Gluten-Free Makeup
precious831 replied to precious831's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Thanks for the info, I actually have one of those Pomegranate things, the eye cream. I didn't know they had a lotion, I'll have to check it out. I want to be done with Oil of Olay, not happy with the lack of info or secrecy regarding their ingredients. I'll check out the other stuff you mentioned too, thanks again! -

ARCHIVED How Are The Grain-Free Folks Doing?

Oh definitely, cavewoman sounds great! LOL. I've been calling myself as following paleo/caveman diet haha. Would you mind sharing your coconut wrapper recipes and the raw nut pizza crust? I miss samosas and pizza! I got a large dehydrator for Christmas and I'm so stoked. I just used it for the 1st time yesterday, I dehydrated almonds that I soaked. ... -
ARCHIVED Gluten-Free Makeup
precious831 replied to precious831's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Glad to help. Be careful of corn...corn is everywhere, even in bandaids and stuff you won't expect!!!! Oh another thing, how about moisturizers? Does anyone have suggestions? I've been using Oil of Olay sensitive skin for years and I got concerned about the source of vitamin E. I called them and they won't give me info no matter how much I asked. SO... -
ARCHIVED How Are The Grain-Free Folks Doing?
precious831 replied to precious831's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
These are my suggestions: coconut flour, quinoa, buckwheat, chia flour(very expensive but worth it). Buckwheat and quinoa are not grains, you could try. I'm having trouble I think with quinoa now so I'm avoiding it. So sorry to hear about the nut allergy. I go nuts on nutsonline buying nuts there and flour. I love baked goods, I make everything now but... -
ARCHIVED How Are The Grain-Free Folks Doing?

I sure hope so! I've been avoiding dairy for years, last yr I tried goat cheese and had intestinal bleeding. I like jicama, we eat it like a snack/desert, just peel, wash and slice or you can add it like a side dish. It's not gonna help us gain weight though, just some type of a filler. I wonder if it might work for hash browns, shred it and fry with... -

ARCHIVED Gluten-Free Makeup
precious831 replied to precious831's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Thanks for all the suggestions, I just saw that ad here for Joelle, I'll check that out too, seems like a good one. I don't want to keep using Bare Minerals because it has corn(the mineral veil at least has it) and I avoid all grains. It just sucks because I have so much left of this stuff. -
ARCHIVED Gluten-Free Makeup
precious831 replied to precious831's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I wasn't saying I want cheap makeup, I was just looking for options. Before I used Bare Minerals, I was using Clinique everything, that's expensive too. I have very sensitive skin and don't wear a lot of makeup but it would be nice to have a little every now and then for like church and going out with friends. -

I was eating quinoa for a while and now I think that's bothering me so I'm laying off that. I have been also using that coconut aminos, good stuff but pricey. Do you have an Asian store closeby? They have all sorts of tubers, they'll have malanga, taro, camote, lotus, etc. To get rid of some of the starch you have to soak them, that's how my mother showed... -
ARCHIVED How Are The Grain-Free Folks Doing?
precious831 replied to precious831's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I originally started with SCD too but now I can't really say I'm SCD because I've been eating organic sweet potatoes and other tubers. I'm more paleo I guess. What kind of flour were you using? I saw on your avi you're allergic to nuts/treenuts. I'm slim too but I'm ok with my weight I'm shorter than you and weigh 107. Well probably lost weight now due... -
ARCHIVED How Many Family Members Have Celiac?
precious831 replied to shezatrip's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
My daughter and I have it, we seem to be both having issue with all grains so we're actually grain-free. My mother has GI symptoms too, possibly the same thing but she doesn't want to skip gluten/grains. -

Hey just thought I'd check with all the grain-free people! I know there's a few of us here, please let me know if you have any new food/stuff finds! I'm doing alright although I did land in the hospital for pneumonia last Friday(New Yrs Eve!). I'm doing much better now recuperating at home. The grain-free thing is going well, so far so good as far as tummy... -
Does anyone know of any? Right now I'm using Bare Minerals, they're pricey though. What's everyone using? Thanks!

ARCHIVED My Family Just Doesn't Get It
precious831 replied to jasonD2's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hi, I can totally relate. This is my 2nd year being gluten free(among other things) and things are not better. I get snide remarks, comments, eye rolls. It hurts my feelings too. They think I'm overprotective of my DD(celiac) and of myself, they say things like "oh just eat it, you'll be fine." My sis says "you used to eat it and you were fine." For the... -
ARCHIVED Who Survived Thanksgiving?
precious831 replied to sandsurfgirl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Mine wasn't so good. I went to my sister's and before hand she said the turkey was gluten-free and also DF. Well when I got there, I got a different answer. So I almost starved, I'm glad I brought sweet potato fries, I ate that. Oh and I cheated and ate rice (I'm grain-free)with some pork stew that my mom made and brought from her house. I still feel sick... -
ARCHIVED Heopathic Meds On Gluten
precious831 replied to Bigbread's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I always call and verify. I use homeopathics from Native Remedies, I have had no problems with them. It will clearly state it on there too on their label if a product is gluten-free, it will say gluten-free. I don't get anything with alcohol or lactose. -

Thanks for all the info, I'll look for the coconut yogurt, it's been a while since I made it. I actually got it off someone's site so it's not really my recipe. It was really easy to make. I'm changing GI drs because the last one is no help really,we disagree on a lot of stuff. He said I might have "ulcerative colitis" he did the colonoscopy and wants... -

ARCHIVED Looking For SCD'ers Here, Need Support
precious831 replied to precious831's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Thanks, I buy the almond flour from an SCD website and no problems with them, it's great! I know about that acidophilus drink, you mean kombucha? I don't like that at all, I don't like kimchi either. I've not tried to do anything with kefir grains yet but I'm thinking about it. I grew up w/ my dad making those fermented vegetable and he always tried to... -
ARCHIVED Feeling Very Sad Today
precious831 replied to jasonD2's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I feel ill most days, I know the feeling, it's hard. I got progressively worse too and earlier this year I found out I was even pre-diabetic! So my BP went out and then I found out that I'm borderline diabetic. I took grains off and now BP and sugar is normal. I used to have severe GERD, so bad that one day I literally couldn't swallow. I had to get my...
