  1. I have a friend that has 4 children. Three are confirmed celiac one is the identical twin of one of the confirmed kids, so she has a high chance of being celiac (I think its 70% chance) That paper about facial features sounds fascinating! Any chance of the link?
  2. 80% of celiacs in Australia remain undiagnosed. How the heck is that over diagnoses. I swear - people in the medical field often have no clue
  3. Aiiieeee. Okay -that is it. I am going gluten free right now. It is not worth the risks, and if its not that its not like I have anything to lose! And my 4 year old is doing it - so I am making him gluten free stuff anyway. We are awaiting the results for his endo and I have a younger son who is 17 months who is having an endo in 3 weeks time. ...
  4. They say that if your child becomes celiac that if you exclusively breastfeed often it comes on later than in a child who is formula fed. My first was breastfed for 3 months but due to my medical issues I had to give up and my twins were breastfed (by expressing) for 6 weeks and then due to my medical issues I had to give up (all related to this stupid connective...
  5. So far we have only just started with the gluten. I hope there is nothing else - I really don't know if I could cope. I didn't realise it was going to be soooo hard. I mean the apple sauce we had for xmas had gluten in it - who would have thought! Anyhow - I don't mean to sound whingey - I am sure I will be happier if I notice some health changes in my sons...
  6. No I haven't ever been gluten free. I was supposed to have an endo and I didn't want a false neg if that was the case. Although that agonising pain I get doesn't seem to be a celiac thing - well not that I can find on the internet anyways:). I have shocking joint pain though (my rheumy thinks its connective tissue related). It has come on really suddenly...
  7. Hi guys, I'm from Sydney. My son has just gone gluten free, waiting on the results of the endo he had last week. And I have a 17 month old going for an endo next month...phew I just found out that all Primo Deli meats are now Gluten free! I rang them and they said they have swtiched over 2 months ago but are just waiting to use up their old packaging...
  8. You can absolutely nurse, as long as you are not consuming any gluten then there will be none in your breastmilk. I can't help you with the other stuff I'm afrais as I am myself trying to find out what is wrong with my kids. So I have no idea as to tips to keep them gluten free. Sorry! Goodluck!
  9. Its interesting that you hubby doesn't thin gluten can change behavior. I have read in many different celiac books/sites that the most common symptom in kids between 4-7 is irritablity- far more common that GI issues etc.
  10. Oh my god, I could have written your post. My 4 year old has been gluten free for 5 days now. He is eating us out of house and home he is usually a terrible eater. And the tantrums - foul. I was begining to think that maybe non gluten was making him crazy! Glad to see it seems normal. I wasn't sure if it was just xmas or whatever. Late nights, lots...
  11. We are waiting for our 17 month old's biopsy on the 20th of Jan. My 4 year old just had one two days before christmas. And to be honest it was a real non event. Seriously- every kids that went it woke up fine and wanted to play. I was so scared- I was crying when they put him under. Afterwards I was just in awe of how amazingly resiliant kids are and how...
  12. My mother never had her genes tested. It just didn't enter the Drs and GIs mind that it could be celiac, she deteriorated for years before the gave her and colonoscopy and endoscopy and went looking for bowel cancer and came up with Celiac. My children haven't been tested either - I have a feeling that their paed GI doens't hold much weight maybe with the...
  13. Hi guys, I have read a few posts on here lately that have talked about how there are far more genes associated with celiac than just those two common ones. I had the genes test and came back negative for the two common ones so as far as my Dr is concerned case closed for celiac. My mother is celiac diagnosed by biopsy. Two of my children have celiac...
  14. I can't believe the nutritionist said that Gluten free diet was a fad. Tell that to my mother who the Drs had her convinced she had bowel cancer after being very ill for years and losting 100pounds in 18months and looked like a starving refugee with a massive pot belly. UGH! So infuriating. As if anyone would just *choose* to go on the diet. As far as...
  15. I can see why. Its only been 4 days and its a nightmare. My elsdest just cries cause he can't eat his old food meanwhile I'm trying to feed my younger son gluten because his biopsy is coming up. So difficult. I can absolutely see why its one in all in. After my little ones endo we'll go completely gluten free! Thanks for the replies!
  16. Crohn's is an autoimmune disease same as Celiac. And with autoimmune diseases often when there is one there is many - so yes, absolutely possible to have both. Have a look at this article that is on this site. It talks about how there is a high prevalence of Celiac in Crohn's disease sufferers. https://www.celiac.com/articles/915/1/Celiac-Disease...
  17. Some great ideas - thanks so much for that. Yeah - I'll start checking for intolerances if it comes back negative. Love the omelette idea - he loves stuff like that!
  18. Holy cow - that is so scary. His endo is booked for the 20th of Jan. And to be honest we are a family of autoimmune sufferers so its not just celiac they are looking for but IBD and crohn's etc. Its not even a gluten challenge as such is it though? I'm just trying to get him to eat any at all. He won't even eat bread anymore and toast used to be his...
  19. Sorry for all the questions! I was told that an adult needs to eat either 4 slices of bread a day or 6 wheetbix when they are being glutened prior to their biopsy to avoid false negatives. But no one seems to be able to tell me how much to give my 17th month old. The problem is he seems to be really avoiding gluten. I think he knows it makes him sick...
  20. I was thinking more for me and my hubby I know the kids won't miss it at all. But I have been tested and am neg and while I am happy with most gluten free food - I just hate the bread! Thanks guys.
  21. I am in the crazy position at the moment of trying to keep my 4 year old gluten free as he has just had his endo and trying to gluten up my 17 month old because his endo is coming up on the 20th. Its pretty hard trying to make my little one eat cookies and granola bars while saying to my 4 year old. "You can't have that one but you can have this one" etc...
  22. Yeah - this is exactly like my son- last nights dinner still intact the next day in his stools. As someone mentioned before the most common reason for pancreatic enzyme deficiency is Cystic Fibrosis. My little one had a sweat test a couple of weeks ago and thankfully was negative. I did some reading on the subject in medical journals and they say as many...
  23. My 17 month old has exactly this problem - he is having an endoscopy for celiac testing on the 20th. He recently came back on a stool test as having low pancreatic enzymes which cause digestion problems. There can be many reasons for this. Celiac is just one of many. But basically 15 hours after he has eaten something it comes out intact. Not everything...
  24. I've posted a few times recently on this site -trying to get my head around everything. I just have a couple of quesitons regarding my 17month old. He has come back negative on his bloods for celiac. But he had low iron and low vitamin D, which is the same as my eldest child (who is 4)who also consistantly comes back neg on bloods. He has been...
  25. Oh yeah - he is likely going to have an endo too eventually, its just that for some reason, this paed GI doesn't think he has it. He doesn't say deffo no - just that he doesn't think so. Whereas with my younger one he took one look and listened to the symptoms and said he thought it was very likely after the first time seeing him. Far cry from the full year...
