I get vey sensitive to touch sometimes. I am freezing but feel like my skin is burning up and I can't stand even the lightest touch. I actually recoil from my girlfriend in case she tries to touch me.

That's what I thought too. But I haven't eaten out at all for three weeks now and I've been feeling worse. So that's made me think that there must be something at home that's getting me. I live in a completely gluten free household and I've thrown away everything (food, kitchen equipment, storage containers, etc) that were used prior to my diagnosis....

The Australian Coeliac Society has decided to endorse products that test under 20ppm because they think our food labelling laws are too strict and dramatically limit the choice available to Coeliacs in Australia. Crap! My ferritin has dropped back down to 11. My doctor is going to organise for me to get an iron infusion.

That's awesome. I'm seeing my GP tomorrow so I'll ask him about it. I'm not a big fan of the iron injections. They didn't last and I got an iron stain on my butt

Damn! Even salt and pepper? I never though I was super sensitive because I've never had a major reaction. But I just keep feeling bad a lot and I'm starting to think that it shouldn't take this long for my antibodies to return to normal levels.

I've been on a strict gluten free diet for 18 months now and I'm still getting sick on a regular basis. My latest blood test came back strongly positive for Coeliac disease so it seems like the problem is that I am getting exposed to gluten somehow rather than some other food intolerance. The normal Ferritin range is between 50-100. My Ferritin levels was 2 when I was diagnosed. Iron tablets didn't help because my intestines were too damaged to absorb the iron and it was too rough on my system. I had some iron injections recently and after 18 months on a gluten free diet my Ferritin is up to 18... *sigh*. I need some advice too.

If you don't have to pay for the testing and you have only been gluten free for a few months - then you should probably get tested. I have been strictly gluten free for 18 months and I'm still testing positive. My GI was not worried for the first year as he says it's not uncommon for it to take a while for some people's antibodies to return to normal... -

My Ferrtin levels and vitamin D are very low. I'm taking supplements and have had iron injections but they're not improving. -

I have results but they are not encouraging. I've been on a very strict gluten free diet for 18 months now. I don't cheat ever and I am really careful about cc. I don't think the Freedom oats are anything special. It's just a marketing ploy to whack a label on something that's wheat free naturally. I don't think they actually have to test the oats to label them wheat free like they do with gluten. If that's the case then they're no better than regular oats. Yeah. Are you sure? I've never seen them. Just because they are in the healthfood aisle doesn't mean they are gluten free. You can't legally label oats gluten free in Australia. How are these labelled? -

No. I don't even have the DQ8 gene. I'm one of the 0.4% of Coeliacs who don't have either gene. They'll probably come up with A DQ8 variant if the DQ2 vaccine is successful... but I suspect they won't bother for the very small minority that's leftover.... and that kind of sucks. -

In Australia we have a free health care system (Medicare) so we can get tested, biopsied and treated for Coeliac disease regardless of whether or not we have private health insurance. Because Coeliac disease is a chronic condition we can get put an an enhanced healthcare plan as well. This means that we can claim things that are normally not covered by the... -

I miss oats too. Especially steel cut oats. I have found this place online Open Original Shared Link and it seems to be the only place in Australia that sells uncontaminated oats. It's been over 16 months for me.... And my blood tests are still coming back positive for Coeliac disease, my ferritin and vitamin D levels are still very low and I still have good days and bad days with my guts. But I am much better than I was. I am gradually improving - it's just taking a long time. -

It's funny you should bring this up. I'm a lesbian and a coeliac and I have four lesbian friends who are coeliacs. We often outnumber the non-coeliacs when we go out to dinner. I don't know any straight people or gay boys with coeliac disease even though my circle of friends and acquaintances include a fair number of both. It's getting ridiculous...

You should also try Hooked Healthy Seafood to Go in Prahran and Fitzroy if you feel like fish and chips. They have a gluten free menu and can do gluten free chips, and fish and calamari in glutne free batter. They have a dedicated gluten free fryer. They also have optional gluten free soy sauce if you want to get the rice and bok choy instead of chips...
