  1. I also deal with lower blood pressure, constantly being cold, and low body temp. The only time that I am not cold is when I am sleeping. I have never taken my temp when I first wake up, but I am a furnace when I go to sleep. My boyfriend laughs about it all the time because he never has to worry about being cold when I stay over at his house. I do have...
  2. It sounds like you are already on the right path. Just stick with a gluten free diet and start feeling better! I was also very tiny in HS and then at about 21 I started to gain weight. I figured that it was just my body catching up with all of the crap that I ate and didn't put much more thought into it. Yesterday I had a follow up with my GI (I was a...
  3. About 3-4 weeks ago I had a pretty terrible sinus infection and the dr gave me antibiotics to help resolve it...after about 2 weeks of being sick I finally started feeling better. I went on vaca and felt pretty good, despite getting glutened 1 time. Then again this past Sunday I started with the sniffeling and sneezing again. It got worse until Thursday...
  4. Welcome Sandy!! You have come to the right place for answers about this process. It is not a guarantee that just because you feel better that your blood test will show positive results. Many people are diagnosed simply by positive changes after changing their diet. This may be the case with you. I was one of the lucky ones that did test positive for Celiac...
  5. Great Question!! I would say this "Celiac is an Auto-Immune disease that effects my body's ability to digest gluten products effectively. Auto-Immune means that anytime I eat gluten products my body tries to fight itself and damages my small intestines in the process. The only way for me to feel better is to not eat or drink anything that contains gluten...
  6. Unfortunately if you keep eating gluten, even once a week, you will not completely heal. You may feel better but those set backs will not help. The only way to be 100% again is to cut out ALL gluten, and the sooner the better! You can do this and remember we are all here to help if you need us.
  7. Welcome to the Forum...and you have come to the right place to get answers. Don't hesitate to ask away here, everyone is willing to help as we have been there before. YES Barley is a gluten item so you need to eliminate that as well. That fig bar is probably what did you in today. Also you may be experienceing some withdrawls from being Gluten Free...
  8. Welcome to the group and remember you are a lucky one that actually has a dx. It is important to do all of the scrub down/cleaning/replacing as soon as possible. The best way to start feeling better is to get rid of Gluten. As for CC it depends on each person, so be very careful especially at first. I am lucky (or unlucky depending on how you look at...
  9. I am by no means an "Expert" but I would say that yes if you have a severe sensitivity that you could have been CC'd by the corn chips touching your dip. I am very lucky (or maybe unlucky) that I do not have reactions to CC. I know that it still can do damage, but I have a hard time knowing when that does happen. Just my 2 cents....
  10. To say how supportive someone should be is tough...I started dating someone "post" diagnosis and he has been GREAT about my diet. He wants me to either choose where we eat, or makes sure that there is something there that I can eat. He has also done research on his own so that he knows what to look for when he wants to make dinner. We have only been seeing...
  11. I find it odd that he assures you that this test is a good way to find out if you are Celiac, as even my dr told me that the test could show up negative, even if I have Celiac. I was lucky enough to test positive, and the biopsy confirmed it, but from all of the things I have read here and other places the blood test is VERY unreliable. I hope it gives...
  12. I have to agree with Mushroom that there are so many false negatives out there I wouldn't go back on gluten just to get tested. If you feel better, then you have all the answers you need. I think it is horrible that a dr would want you to be sick so they could run some tests. I hope it all works out well for you!!!
  13. First of all WELCOME to the Board!! You will hopefully find lots of answers and support here! I also lead a very busy life, and find it very tough to eat something quickly. However I have just learned to plan a little better so I can still stay gluten-free and not be starved. First off I usually cook several things on Sunday afternoons and put them in...
  14. Hi!! I am from the Quad Cities area. I have not yet bought or read any books on Celiac, my work and home life has been pretty hectic the last couple months and I need to make time to do it, but just haven't yet. I have not switched my makeup or hair care products, but seem to be doing ok with out that. I did read the labels and what I use doesn't list...
  15. That is what I was hoping....I am finally getting all of my vitamin levels up to a decent level and don't want to even think about causing that to start over again. I am very careful about staying Gluten-Free, but I am sure that at some point in time I will be glutened....Like this past weekend. It was 100% my fault, but I was in a hurry and didn't read...
  16. Some people take longer to heal than others, so please be patient and stick to it....It will hopefully get better soon. If you haven't done so already try eliminating things like Soy/Dairy/Corn/Nightshades and see if those help. Some people can not tolerate those foods while they are in the healing process, but can then add them back in after they are feeling...
  17. I also had NO luck with the dietician. I was hoping to have somemore clarity and understanding after wasting my money, but really didn't have any better direction at all. Everything I know about this disease I have learned by reading here. The one thing she did get me was the phone number for a local bakery that is strictly gluten free. The woman that...
  18. I believe that my "trigger" was having my apendix removed. 6 weeks after that surgery I had my gallbladder removed, but am now thinking that maybe my gallbladder was fine and it was the Celiac causing all of my GI issues. Before having my gallbladder out I had chronic D and severe nausea and pain, however the D never went away after the gallbladder came...
  19. Another question I have is what happens when we are healed but get glutened at some point, do we completely start over again? Or at that point is the damage only minor and after a few days/weeks of healing we are ok? I DO NOT plan on eating gluten, but worry that because I have no Major Symptoms what may happen if I do ingest even a small amount, as I am...
  20. This is GREAT!!! If it works! My only question is that it says that it relieves the symptoms of gluten, but does it still do damage to your intestines? If it does then you still do not want to eat gluten, as the immediate symptoms are only part of the problem. Thanks for sharing, and I can't wait to see if it will work for us!!
  21. This is very interesting to me because when they did the biopsy for Celiac I was also diagnosed with GERD, however have never felt like I had Acid Reflux. Dr asked if I ever had heart burn and as far as I know I never have. I have been told I would know if I had it, so I have to assume that I have not. As far as the Acid Reflux, I do not ever feel like...
  22. Whine away....thats what we are all here for. Sometimes we just need someone else to listen to us. I am too new to this yet to have many other ideas to help you, SORRY Hope things get easier for you.
  23. Welcome back!!! This is the best place to get information and help! I have found that I have learned more here than from both my GI Dr, and the Nutrionist he sent me to. Hopefully you will see positive changes soon!!
  24. I agree with Sandsurf, once you have gotten over the major issues that you are dealing with, DO NOT let the illness control your life. I know that is easier said than done, but you can do it. I was only diagnosed about 2 months ago, but my last relationship ended mostly due to side effects of Celiac (didn't know that at the time of course) At first I was...
