It just seems like it would be a good one for celiacs who need to lose weight. I was wondering if any of you did this diet after going g.f., and if so, how did you do on it? Or even if any of you did it before going g.f., I'd be interested in hearing about it. Of course, the first 2 "phases" of the diet are pretty much g.f. anyway. I suspect that this...

ARCHIVED Need Some Clarification Please!Black Sheep replied to conniebky's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms This is something I've wondered about as well, esp. since I wasn't tested. It almost sounds that with celiac, it would then take much, much, longer for the person to feel better and some of their related health problems to start healing....is that right, or no? And it also sounds as if the gluten int. person really doesn't have a whole host of other health...

ARCHIVED Struggling With Coming To Terms With How Stupid I've BeenBlack Sheep replied to williamsburg000's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease I was sick for almost 18 years before my current N.D. told me to try going off gluten for a month to see how I felt. In fact, about 7 years ago, a different N.D. who I had just started seeing (1st app't.) had me go off gluten for a month. I did but I didn't feel any better, so with great relief, I started eating the crud again. Great relief because I so didn...

ARCHIVED How Sensitive To Gluten Are You?Black Sheep replied to T.H.'s topic in Coping with Celiac Disease That's a great idea! My dad even made a joke about that when I sent it back, too.

ARCHIVED Weird Heart ProblemBlack Sheep replied to Black Sheep's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease Hulda Clark....I've heard of her. I'm going to check out that book, thanks!

Yes, aren't they special? And I am in the Great NW, where it's cool, cloudy, and humid, about 300 days out of the year.

ARCHIVED How Sensitive To Gluten Are You?Black Sheep replied to T.H.'s topic in Coping with Celiac Disease Um...non-stick pans and plastic utensils? I knew that gluten couldn't be gotten out of the wooden stuff, but non-stick and plastic? Oh no...do all celiacs have to throw them away, or only the folks who are really sensitive? But then I guess this goes back to how much damage is really going on despite a person's sensitivity. Oh, great. I had the...

Well, melatonin's so common, you could probably find the sublingual's in any health food store, or even a pharmacy that sells vitamins, herbs, etc. But I know what it's like to have to drive 30 miles, or to the next town at least (about 12) to get certain supplements or g.f. food! Heck, my little town doesn't even have a health food store anymore! There's...

Do you mean that the swelling and pain went away due to going g.f., or were you also taking silica? Please forgive me if you mentioned that earlier in the thread and I missed it!

Did she say what it is about it that makes it bad for anyone with an a.i. disease? I think I remember reading other comments in this thread about it not being good for us, too....just wondering about the "why's" of it.

I got it at my local GNC (General Nutrition Centers) store...do they have those where you are? So of course it's the GNC brand. But lots of health food stores sell sublingual melatonin. This one I have is not a liquid, it's a very small, cherry-flavored tablet that slowly dissolves under the tongue. The label also specifies g.f.! This GNC brand sublingual...

ARCHIVED Weird Heart ProblemBlack Sheep replied to Black Sheep's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease Hey, thanks everyone! Smart Water....I think that's the same brand someone else mentioned to me. I'm going to look for it. In the meantime, after I posted last night, I remember coconut water. I happened to see it once while shopping and was reading on the can about how it's supposedly the perfect natural sports drink, as it was so refreshing and loaded with...

ARCHIVED Weird Heart ProblemBlack Sheep posted a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease I've seen posts here re. things like tachycardia that was caused by gluten, and I must say that my mild tachycardia has improved quite a bit since going g.f. back in March. But starting about a month before that, about early Feb. I think, I noticed that my heart would sometimes skip a beat. When I saw my doc in March I told her about it and she listened to...

Oh boy. I go to an N.D. too, and she wants to test my adrenals as well as for LGS. And she wants me to re-test to see if the heavy-metal detox I did got rid of it all. AND she wants to test my hormones. Let's see...at between $125 and $350 per test, depending on which one it is, and me with no insurance....it's gonna' be awhile. But as soon as I get the ...

You could try a sublingual melatonin. I just bought one a few days ago, as my chronic insomnia which had originally improved after going g.f. decided to pay me a few visits again. I like the sublingual much better than the other kind; not that the other bothered my stomach, but the sublingual works really, really, fast. Tastes good, too.

ARCHIVED Exhaustion Is BackBlack Sheep replied to NE Mom's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease That happened to me after being g.f. for about 5 1/2 weeks. At 2 weeks, I went through the extreme fatigue "detox" thing. I was sure it was iron or something, so I had it checked and if it were any higher, it would have been too high! Ferritin was fine too, and I already take massive amounts of D and sublingual B-12. After about a week the fatigue went away...

ARCHIVED Introducing A New OneBlack Sheep replied to tarnalberry's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff That's awesome! Congrats! (if we had a little clapping smiley, I'd have stuck him in there!)

O.k. well, I know from experience now that it's common to go through a detox period when you cut gluten out of your diet. I went through the so-exhausted-I-can-hardly-walk stage, and I've read about others who have, as well. This happened to me roughly 2 weeks into the g.f. diet, and lasted about a week and a half. Then I started feeling better. But...

ARCHIVED I Had To Chuckle About Tthis...Black Sheep replied to BethM55's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease I was reading that the home brewer can make g.f. beers, simply by using sorghum malt and grains like millet, quinoa, etc. I have some home brew books and was going to try it...but I'm starting a low-carb diet so I won't be drinking g.f. beer or anything else for awhile!

ARCHIVED Anybody Out There A Morbidly Obese Celiac?Black Sheep replied to ts1986's topic in Related Issues & Disorders Good grief, Mtnplanner, your story could almost be mine! Down to the sub-clinical hypothyroidism! Although the Atkins diet is about the only one I haven't tried, and I was going to start it this weekend. My doc wants to do an adrenal test, along with testing for food allergies and LGS (and a few other tests too), but I don't have insurance, so these tests...

ARCHIVED Waking Up Every Hour To PeeBlack Sheep replied to wilbragirl's topic in Related Issues & Disorders Amazing. I'm not the only "freak of nature" out there who has to pee every 20 minutes! It started when I was 20 and slowly got worse and worse over the years (I'll be 48 in June), until last year it got so bad, I really was going about every 20-45 min.! And just like someone mentioned way back on page 2, I think it was, after I'd go I felt like I had a...
