  1. Roda, when you said "avocados" I went, "Aha!" Not that it's the avocados for sure, of course, but the pain, bloating, etc., you've described mirror almost exactly what happened to me when I at guac. It was some I made myself, so I know it was safe, and the stuff I put in it never bothers me--all of it, I've eaten lots of times since and been fine. This happened...
  2. I think I'd like to try silica, as I have joint and back pain, too. I also have plantarfaciitis in both feet, and yesterday, after having been on my feet for a whopping couple of hours , not only were my feet killing me but my hip, knee, and ankle joints were, as well. and the bones in my feet. Ugh. I try to stay away from drugs as much as I can, but last...
  3. Most of the time, I feel like I've always been g.f., and it's only been a bit over a month and a half for me! But then there are other times where I almost forget for a moment that gluten is poison for me...like the last couple of times I stopped just short of grabbing hubby's open bottle of beer and helping myself!
  4. Yeah, that's for sure, although I did get herbal stuff from my doc that makes the pain go away, since then. It's got aloe, slippery elm, and a bunch of other stuff I can't remember. I was at a church potluck on Sun. afternoon and, although I brought a couple of different foods I could eat, decided when I saw a some fruit trays to do a little test. I...
  5. Umm...does a celiac avoid gluten? HECK YES!!!!!! I want to buy your cookbook when it's out, as well!
  6. Magpie, you are awesome! You should have a cooking blog! I would be there a lot.
  7. This is awesome! Well, not that we have wavy nails....but that I'm not the only one! Mine started getting that way in my 20's (I'm almost 48 now ) and no one had any idea why. Then I went to a Naturopath several years ago, who wanted me to take magnesium, in addition to a lot of other stuff, as hypchloridia (low stomach acid) had caused a lot of malnutrition...
  8. If you decide to try making it again, try this one: Open Original Shared Link I can't find sweet rice flour where I live, so I simply added more brown rice flour. That was the other thing I did different from the recipe, was used brown rice flour instead of white. It was nearly the best pizza crust I've ever had, and even non-g.f. hubby thought so...
  9. Well, I'm not a "veteran" when it comes to being g.f., as I've only been g.f. for about a month and a half, but I am a veteran when it comes to probiotics! I have tried so many over the years, and none seemed to really help. Well o.k., now I realize that the candida problems were mostly brought on by gluten; but even before going g.f. one was recommended...
  10. I found a store about 45-50 min. from here that sells Kinnickinnick (sp?) doughnuts, and they were good, so next time I'm up that way I'll have to see if they have the English muffins. The bread you buy in PA sounds good, too! If they don't have it here, perhaps I could get it from the i-net.
  11. Wow, so many interesting stories here, and good advice as well. Thanks everyone! As for the Alzheimer's, I thought I had seen something one that once, during my search for answers. It's something I want to look into more. I know the owner of a small, local group home for Alzheimer's patients, and a few of them seem to young to have Alzheimer's. But really...
  12. Now that's a book I want to read! You will let us know when it's finished, right?
  13. I'm sitting here stunned. That is absolutely incredible. Thank you so much for sharing that, as so much makes sense now. I admire your strength and refusal to give up through all of that.
  14. I make most of my own g.f. bread, and so far I haven't used any white rice flour, just brown, and the bread and pizza crust are awesome! Even my finicky husband, who is not very open to change, loves it! More than even the high-end store bought gluten breads. But I would never make a loaf of bread with just one flour! I think that would be awful, and with...
  15. Oh, I want to try that! In fact I have some of their spaghetti, but it's the quinoa-corn combo. In fact, that's the only quinoa pasta I can find around here, is mixed with corn.
  16. I totally agree with Magpie, except for the part about tossing it out! Look, here's an example of how cheap I am when it comes to expensive g.f. bread: I just finished a half of a grilled turkey and cheese sandwich, made with the last slice of my yummy home made g.f. bread. the last tiny bite of crust was a little dry, with no cheese. So rather than give...
  17. Almost exactly what happened to me. I was a couple of weeks into being g.f. when I began to feel as run-down-exhausted as with a bad flu, only without the body aches and fever. For several days I could barely walk from room to room....it was more like dragging myself! So of course I jumped right on here to ask what you're asking, and everyone was saying...
  18. I second that! Tinkyada is great! Even though I've been g.f. for 5 1/2 weeks, I've been using Tinkyada brown rice pasta for a couple of years now. My reasoning then was, brown rice is probably healthier than all that processed wheat. But I think I knew deep down that I had a major gluten problem--just didn't want to admit it. Anyway, my husband didn't even...
  19. That's a good idea. I've been using a small magnifying glass that I have in my purse. I can't tell you all how many times, in the under-six-weeks time I've been g.f., I have been in a store somewhere, picked up something that I was sure would be g.f., with great expectations--and read the word "wheat" on the label. Like the mango-flavored licorice...
  20. Thank you so much, Ravenwood! This gives me hope. Even if I never get back the balance and mental acuity I once had, I'd be thrilled to have as healing as you have. I'll be 48 in a couple of months, so I guess I have a lot of years of poisoning working against me. I'm just so tired of being such a dingbat. I must come off as having the i.q. of an eggplant...
  21. Welcome to the board! I've been g.f. for about 5 1/2 weeks, and if the situation comes up where someone's offering me stuff with gluten, wants to get together for pizza, etc., I just tell them, I can't eat gluten anymore. They usually ask a few questions about that, which I'm happy to answer, and so far about the worst reaction I've gotten is one of...
  22. I just tried them for the first time yesterday morning and felt great.
  23. Oh, thanks for the reminder! Boy, my brain is gone....no, I haven't been keeping a food journal, but I've been meaning to! I'd read some good things here re. Sparks people, so I signed up there, only to find that it's way more than I was looking for. Someone here recommended Livestrong for a food journal, so I went there, bookmarked it for when I had more...
  24. Great, so that's what's wrong with my brain. Seriously, My memory's gone to the dogs, I'm pretty much always in a brain fog, and I can't concentrate. Although I was never what you'd call a genius, I used to have very good memory, could quickly and easily memorize things I'd read, was fairly quick-witted and had no trouble concentrating. But little by little...
  25. Is that like some kind of cooking game show? We refuse to pay the outlandish price for cable around here, so we don't watch t.v.
