  1. I agree. She's being a complete cow and is getting a kick out of it as her behaviour seems to be getting continuously worse and worse - like she's waiting to be called on it. The harm she is trying to do you is getting greater and greater, plus she's belittling you emotionally. Now, if she was trying to harm you with escalating physical violence (maybe a...
  2. There's also a Chipotle near the Whole Foods in Hillcrest, Chipotle is always my favourite standby when travelling in the US. I was staying downtown and got the bus out there which was quite straightforward and I was half dead with jetlag (I'd flown into LAX from Australia that morning and taken the train down to San Diego!) If you have a car it'll be super...
  3. I am sure you can bring some crackers or snackbars in your purse to keep you going. I live in Australia which is one of the strictest countries in the world in regards to food items that can be brought in, and even our quarantine officers allow prepackaged bakery goods. You'll feel less panicky if you know you have *something* to tide you over, but I'm sure...
  4. The cinnamon chex got me bad and I'm not sure what it was in it as the honey nut has always been fine. The first time I tried it I was eating every day (ok, sometimes more than once a day) and I bypassed my usual initial 'glutening' symptoms, which are all digestive and moved straight onto the dizziness and balance issues which I don't usually get unless...
  5. Not Rose but I can answer this one I didn't have reservations for lunch and had no problems with that (we went to the Village Haus). It was super crowded (I was there Labor Day weekend) but the person taking my order called over one of the cooks when I said gluten free and he handled it specially. For dinner, we had reservations at Ariel's Grotto because...
  6. So true! On one hand, the loss of tourist dollars must really hit hard, but on the other hand, you probably don't want them cluttering up the place either! And yeah, the issue of what to see (that's not being totally nosy about peoples destroyed lives) And I don't have any desire to know what an earthquake feels like... the penguins though, you could sell...
  7. 6 weeks is likely not long enough to poison yourself anyway, I read everything I could to find a guaranteed time for the gluten challenge and all I found out is that everyone suggests something different. Well to be on the safe side, I did a 3 month challenge and still tested negative. Twice. Meh, went gluten free again (I'd been gluten free for a month...
  8. Shroomie, I always wanted to visit Chch and never got around to it and the earthquake was kind of a major dampener (which made me feel bad as I'm sure tourists are needed) but I may well fly over for a gluten free bakery! We had one here in Leichhardt but it closed down.
  9. Hi Josie! We don't get that bread, I don't think. But handy to know. Yeah, I overdosed on jacket potatoes when I first went gluten free
  10. I'm researching options for a trip to Chicago, there will be a group of us so I need to find something everyone likes. Has anyone eaten there? It's one of the Lettuce Entertain You restaurants and I had a great experience a few years ago with Ben Pao, which used to be one of theres. The entrees look nice- I quite fancy lemon chicken with veges. But would...
  11. lol Stephanie, that's even better, I was just thinking about people being hit on the head. Welcome Nick and sorry
  12. Jason, I'm glad you had a good trip! It sounds like heaps of fun Dani, London is great, if you are there again, M&S food have lots of things you can have on the go and they are labelled really well. I found wait staff in the UK pretty knowlegable. I'm sorry you had a hard time. To add to the others, I research locations of gluten free restaurants...
  13. Yes, I think with your asthma, even if you didn't have celiac, the dust is a worry and a mask would really help that. Breathing in lots of flour in the air like that isn't going to be good for anyone. I like kwylee's suggestion to make it your trademark. You're not being any less serious about your needs, but joking with your colleagues will help you...
  14. My overactive imagination has conjured up an image of a terrible accident with a chicken nugget delivery truck that left billions of those little frozen crumbed morsels bouncing all over the highway like ping pong balls.
  15. Yep, I worked in a supermarket too, for years. I am so glad I left before I went gluten free. The flour everywhere was the least of the stuff I got covered in back then, eek. It will be interesting to see what the future brings. There is such awareness now. And even if a store isn't entirely gluten free, they can be safe *if they take the care to try*...
  16. love the letter shroomie! I need to use it for woolies. Coles I'm mostly happy with. Yeah, I don't mind about the bread because I know that bread is filled by the bread reps and not the store. But the other bread products would be better together. I looked in the crumpet section again last night but no luck and I won't go there again, it's too traumatising...
  17. I wrote to Coles this morning, hopefully they'll take it on board. Those gluten-gluttons probably don't realise that we treat the bakery section like it's full of poison. I specifically wrote that they'd hidden the english muffins in the "invisible to me" section of the store Has anyone seen the macro foods gluten free flour? Woolworths are crazy...
  18. I found bellyhoo pies last night, but it does look like the supply is being run down. I bought cherry and apple and have managed to eat both apple ones, blahh! So not what my waistline needed, I lurched between hating you all for telling me that that they'd soon be gone and loving you all for giving me the chance to eat them before to vanish, hahahaha....
  19. Such a shame about the bellyhoo products. I'll check tonight and will stock up if they have any left. I was disappointed this year that my local coles didn't sell those mini hot cross buns. I got some at another Coles, and my mum found them for me where she lives, but I got way less than last year :-( I suspect though that there are not many people buying...
  20. Ohhhhh, english muffins!!!!! I had them in the UK, they were good! And crumpets!!! I had them cold in the UK which wasn't bad but I couldn't toast them because it was a shared toaster. That's so sad about the bellyhoo pies though I haven't had one in a while (it's really hard to eat low carb when there's all this goodness coming out!) but they were there...
  21. There's a chain in Australia (Crust) that offer a gluten free pizza and I've never had problems with them. I think they partnered with the NSW Coeliac Society.
  22. Beebs, I'm thinking I might need a weekend in Bathurst, lol. I used to go there all the time - I had family there - but haven't been in years. The GTT is an awful test, I got very weak and lightheaded, the receptionist kept yelling at me to keep me awake. I'm sorry you were nauseated, that sounds even worse
  23. This thread is helping psych me up to go dairy free. It seems so much harder than gluten free, but I've had two months straight of respiratory stuff and that coincides with a higher than usual for me dairy intake...it's time to give it a real try.
  24. I never get to Bathurst anymore unfortunately... is that also where the cafe was or was that in Sydney? It sounds great!
  25. I have to have another glucose tolerance test and I realised that it's my first GTT since I went gluten free and I'm not sure about the drink. The ingredients are: - Dextrose Monohydrate (wheat derivative) - Carbonated Water - Glucose - Food acid (330) - Flavour, preservative (202, 211) The brand is GLUCAID. I cannot find anything useful online...
