  1. Yes I noticed this too but when I read the ingredients list it didn't have anything that had gluten. I spoke to the Victorian Celiac society and they assured me that the warm herb fusion chicken salad is okay. I think McDonalds need to update their website or check its accuracy.
  2. Some interesting news people. Melbourne people may be aware of a gluten free bakery called Uncle Ricks which had lots of yummy gluten-free goodies. Apparently Uncle Ricks has closed down and it was bought by Patties Pies. Patties Pies have used some of Uncle Ricks recipes and they are planning to release in April in Coles supermarkets a range of...
  3. There are quite a few McCains fries that are okay. Remember that Dextrose (from wheat) is okay to eat. Also Health Choice brand of potato wedges are fine too.
  4. Obviously it depends on the country you live in. In Australia the fries do NOT contain gluten. If you look at their website it says it may contain traces of wheat which means that there are some McDonalds that do not have a separate dedicated frier. Most McDonalds do not fry anything else in the oil. As I mentioned before my daughter has been...
  5. Lets not forget Wendy's Flake Shakes for complete indulgence - choco. milkshake with pieces of Cadbury flake chocolate.
  6. If you look on their website you will see that fries do not contain gluten by ingredient but they do have a 'T' for trace amounts due to the fact that they can be cooked in the same oil as other products. My daughter has been eating McDonalds fries for years with no problems. Most McDonalds don't fry anything else with the fries but there may be some...
  7. I was just checking out the McDonalds website and noticed that there herb fusion chicken salad is gluten free including the dressing. I am getting it clarified thru email though. Also there chocolate thickshake is supposedly gluten free but it contains malt syrup so I am getting them to check that out too.
  8. We haven't made any firm plans as yet but are thinking about it. I had a look at a few of the places on Trip Advisor and I am thinking twice now about those hotels as they some of them haven't got very good reviews. I always look at trip advisor also - an excellent site. Thanks for the reminder about it.
  9. Hi Sillyyak, Did you know there is a gluten free cafe here in Melbourne (Australia) called Silly Yaks? Clever name.
  10. You should try Pizza Piazza in Chapel Street as it is very close to Malvern area (10 minutes drive) or on the tram/train. As far as I know Heinz Ketchup is okay - I know that Heinz tomato sauce is fine and that is pretty much the same - just check the ingredients. Remember that all labels in Australia must state if there is an allergy causing substance...
  11. Try www.patties.com.au and use the contact us section to ask them about S.A. availability.
  12. Hi everyone!! We have been thinking about going to Italy in the next few years but as we have a 10 year old daughter who is a celiac we have been concern about eating options in the land of gluten. I discovered this site which manages accommodation throughout Italy that is celiac friendly. Many of the places serve gluten free meals and are very knowledgeable...
  13. Hi everyone! Just thought I would say hello. I have posted a few times in the travel section but not over here. I am not a coeliac but my 10 year old daughter is and so is my sister. My daughter has been a coeliac since she was 2 and my sister since she was 32. I am always on the lookout for new products and places to eat out and am an...
  14. Hi everyone, I am not a coeliac but my 10 year old daughter is so my knowledge of gluten free chocolates and lollies is pretty good as you can imagine. 16. Hi Mango, Hope you are enjoying your time in Australia. I was reading the Australian Celiac Magazine and I noticed an ad for a place called 'Wellbeing' which has several outlets in Sydney which have gluten free food such as salads, noodle salads, risottos, curries and soups that are gluten free. Here is their website: Open Original Shared Link
  17. Can't help you re. the beer Mango though I do know that there is gluten free beer out there. Might have to stick with other drinks like wine etc. Keep asking about the beer though. Hostel kitchens - yes, I remember those from when I was in Europe and they are no fun to cook in though there are some hostels in Australia, I know there is one in Melbourne...
  18. Mango, If you like ham or salami you can go the the cheese/ham section in the refrigerated part of the supermarket and the HANS brand labels their products gluten free though if you read the labels of many hams, salamis, bacon etc. you will find they are okay. In the fresh deli section it is a bit harder as often they don't have the ingredients on the label...
  19. Mango you need to ask locals where the supermarkets and health food stores. There are large supermarkets everywhere though they may be smaller in the inner city areas. Health food shops should be easy to find in most locations, just ask the locals and they will point you in the right direction. As soon as you find a Coles or Woolworths/Safeway supermarkets...
  20. I agree about the Ogran corn chips. They make alot of great stuff but some of it needs to go in the reject bin. I don't know why they bother making corn chips when you can buy plenty of corn chips in the supermarket that are gluten free and nice to eat. Maybe they should taste test their products with possums and seagulls and if they reject it than they...
  21. If you go to Noosa on the Sunshine Coast in Queensland I recommend the Eumundi market on a Saturday morning or Wednesday morning. It is a fabulous market of over 300 stalls in the small village of Eumundi near Noosa. If you are staying in a hostel they will know about it for sure. Near the middle section of the market are some food stalls and one in particular...
