  1. Unfortunately, the dieticians in my town are pretty useless. That doctor even told me so. The other GI I saw earlier (who did the biopsy) couldn't recommend anyone here either. I did see one dietician, but she was really not that informed about the gluten-free diet and couldn't answer many of my questions. Believe me, I've done my research. I've read...
  2. I just saw a doctor about this today. She recommended that I get another sonogram soon. My last one was in April and they did find a fibroid (but harmless they said) in my left breast. She could also feel lumps (although I'm normally lumpy so it's hard to tell it they are lumpier than usual). So I'm glad I met up with her.
  3. My dad's doctor refused to let him get tested for Celiac disease (and I have it) because he showed "no symptoms." After 20 plus years of having that grouchy bastard doctor, this was the last straw and he finally changed doctors.
  4. I just saw a second GI in Champaign-Urbana, Illinois yesterday. She is with Christie Clinic. I don't want to name names, but if you contact me personally I will tell you who she is. Anyhow, she looked over my results and said that I have a mild case of Celiac disease. I told her about my symptoms: fatigue, insomnia, restless leg syndrome, acid reflux, acne...
  5. the GI thinks that it's fluid retention from my recent trip overseas. I'm not peeing so much now at night. However, I do wake up several times still I'm seeing another doc today about the sore breasts. The GI I saw thinks that my Celiac is mild and that many of my symptoms (fatigue, insomnia, restless legs, acid reflux, yeast infections, sinus pressure...
  6. Sounds like I should take a trip there, next! It's frustrating how backwards the US is compared to many countries in Europe. Hopefully someday we will catch up.
  7. Yes, I find that pretty outrageous that the publication would not refund her. Plus you are right, they are very overpriced. I think you can get 6 issues of "Living Without" for only $23 as opposed to 4 issues of "Gluten Free living" for $40! Big price difference. If anyone else has opinions about the gluten-free Living magazine (but also Living Without)...
  8. Thanks for your input. I have cut way down on my caffeine intake. I think I would like to talk to some of my docs first, though, and see what they think. I also don't know if I have lactose intolerance. But before going on another dramatic diet, I want to consult with them first. By the way, the sonogram found a fibroid in my left breast but they said it...
  9. I looked in 3 places for Gluten Free Living: Borders, Barnes and Noble and the local health food store. None of these places had any copies of this publication. They said they might have in the past, but they were out at the moment. since it only comes out 4 times a year, I'm not sure it's worth the $40 subscription. "living without" comes 6 times a year...
  10. so it seems like you think that "Living Without" has easier recipes and less technical articles than "Gluten-free living"? I've never looked through a "Gluten free Living" magazine, but have looked through several "Living Without" ones. I just need imput so I can decide whether it is worth subscribing to either publication.
  11. I've been looking over my intestinal biopsy reports and there are a few medical terms that I don't understand. I have been diagnosed with Celiac disease, but the report is very technical and hard to understand. For instance, it says I have "significant infiltration by lymphocytes." What does that mean? Also it says I have "crypt hyperplasia" and "intraepithelial...
  12. I had a great time on my trip. There is no way that I'm pregnant (I've not been dating anyone for nearly 2 years) so I can rule that out. Also, I've been tested for diabetes several times and all the tests have come back negative. I did notice when I got back I had gained about 3-4 pounds. But now I seem to be losing some of that weight (1-2 pounds lost...
  13. I've read some of the other threads about needing to pee a lot during the night. I've always had this problem, too. However, in the last few nights, I've been peeing excessively. I have a bed pot (so I don't have to walk to the bathroom) and last night I peed 1 1/2 quarts (6 cups). A few nights ago, I peed nearly 2 quarts (8 cups). The weird thing is I just...
  14. is there anyone at all who has an opinion on this magazine? I've been checking out "Living Without" magazine, which I'm really enjoying. It's easier to find and it available at my library. For those of you who look at both subscriptions, do you have a preference or thoughts of how they compare to each other?
  15. thanks, everyone. I'm doing much better emotionally than I was before. In fact, no crying spells for over a month! I'm sure I'll get more in the future, but I won't let that bother me. I do also have problems with PMS (certain months are worse than others) so often I get crying spells during those times. Anyway, I feel like I'm in a better state emotionally...
  16. Thanks, I'll check it out. By the way, Finland is a FANTASTIC country for those struggling with celiac disease and gluten intolerance. Nearly all restaurant menus were clearly marked with gluten-free dishes (as well as dairy and some other foods) and many of the supermarkets had an impressive selection of gluten-free foods. Also, almost everyone there whom...
  17. Well I did find out that there is a support group in the Champaign area, and I plan to go to one of their meetings tomorrow. I have another friend who is trying the gluten free diet because she has horrible rashes/blisters and limited income to see a doctor. She suspects that she has the skin type of celiac disease. Also found out a few people I know here...
  18. Blood tests in Feb 2010: positive IgA, negative IgG

Biopsy on April 20: blunting of villi and irration/inflamation of the intestine reported.

Diagnosed with Celiac Disease on May 4, 2010

    started gluten-free diet on May 5, 2010

  19. good to know about pollen. I saw the allergist yesterday but he said all my results were negative and have nothing to worry about with allergies. He was not able to help me much further when I asked about getting tested for lactose intolerance. But I KNOW that I feel bad when the pollen count is high. This was my 2nd series of blood tests for airborne allergies...
  20. where can you find evening primrose oil? Do you just rub it directly onto the breast or what? I'm in close contact with my doc about this. The people who did the mammogram and sonogram said that women can just get this pain at various points in their lives for little reason. Like I said, I don't have children (and never have) but I do get a lot of vaginal...
  21. I used to take acidopholus (sp?) pills and oral nystatin pills for years. But again, my body seemed to get used to them and they had little effect. I haven't taken the Azo oral pills, although I did try the suppositories once or twice and found them to just create more irritation. I also have vulvodynia and vestibulitis and sometimes it's hard for me to tell...
  22. thanks for the link but I don't think that I have that problem (I don't have dryness, redness, that kind of thing). However, my mom did have breast cancer in 2002 and was successfully treated. She has been cancer free since then. She had the traditional kind...the lump that needed to be removed. I'm well aware that I need to be more on the lookout for cancer...
  23. I have this exact same problem. It's amazing how much I have to pee at night sometimes. I do take a sleeping pill and it does help as I don't wake up so often. But I just got back from my trip to Iceland and I'm not sure if it's jet lag or what, but the night before last I woke up to pee about 5 times and it was over 64 ounces! I use a bed pot so I don't...
  24. yes, I've tried to reduce the amount of caffeine a lot in my diet, but I still have this issue. Again, sometimes no problems for months (except before my period) and then sometimes bouts of pain other times of the month for no apparent reasons. They always affect both breasts, which makes me wonder if it's hormonal. I also think that I might get yeast infections...
