  1. Yeah, I can't tell if she's being overly paranoid about those things. The vinegar and caramel color seem like really outdated info. She is a Celiac and a dietician but that still doesn't mean she knows it all. However, all the reviews on Amazon have been excellent regarding her books and they are about $11.95 each. I just don't want to buy them and realize...
  2. this is what Rice Dream says about the product on its website: Is RICE DREAM Beverage a gluten free product? Yes. Although RICE DREAM Beverage is processed using a barley enzyme, the barley enzyme is discarded after use. The final beverage might contain a minute residual amount (less than .002%) of barley protein. So my question is, is this minute...
  3. I drink Rice Dream all the time but now I'm wondering if this is something that is preventing me from healing. I don't get any symptoms if I'm glutened so I don't know if I'm having problems with it or not. I've heard mixed opinions about rice dream. Now I'm worried.
  4. I just found 2 new celiac disease books via Amazon. They are both by Jaqui Karr. One is called "Celiac Disease: Safe/Unsafe Food List and Essential Information On Living With A Gluten Free Diet" and the other is called "Gluten Safe & Unsafe Ingredient List: the fundamental pocket guide for Celiacs" I am tempted to buy them via Amazon as the reviews...
  5. I was just in Posana gluten-free Cafe in Asheville, NC and discovered this new gluten-free magazine publication. The people at Posana were very nice and let me have a copy of the Summer 2011 issue. I've read through most of it and it seems like a pretty good publication and cheaper than Living Without and Gluten Free Living. What are your thoughts on this...
  6. I heard that the Hershey's company is very secretive about whether there are gluten and/or cross contamination in their products. I have heard other people trying to get this information from this company and have been very frustrated because they never seem to give a direct answer or their answers are too vague. I've been told that plain Hershey's bars,...
  7. thanks, everyone, for all of your suggestions. I'll be going to Asheville and Sylva, NC and northern Georgia in less than a week. Looks like there are slim pickings in that area except for Asheville, which is supposed to be great.
  8. It's still quite hot here but not as bad as it was and I'm feeling better for the most part I would LOVE to move out to the Pacific Northwest. My brother lives in Seattle and loves it. I can't leave the state of Illinois, though, because of pre-existing conditions and health insurance
  9. I'm sure Asheville will be easy. I heard that there is a Dairy Queen in Clayton. Not that that is much, but can get a safe ice cream as far as I know. I love Southern food but I can't seem to find any gluten-free Southern food! Bummer.
  10. I will be staying in Sylva, North Carolina for several days for my cousin's wedding. I was wondering if anyone knew of gluten-free restaurants and/or cafes in the Sylva and Dillsboro area. I've heard that there are a couple of bakeries in Sylva that have some gluten-free offerings, but I'm worried about cross contamination issues.
  11. I will be staying in this town for several days soon and was wondering if there were any gluten free restaurants and/or cafes in the Clayton, Georgia area. Unfortunately, I seem quite sensitive to cross contamination, so places that have gluten-free food but don't really understand the diet or have staff who are not educated about the gluten-free diet probably...
  12. sounds like I'm not the only one. I went to volunteer today but after I got out of my car I felt kind of weak and lightheaded. The grass is getting pretty yellow here. It's not a drought yet in Champaign, Illinois (east central Illinois) but if it continues to not rain, I'm afraid it will be. The last really bad drought we had was in the summer of 1988. I...
  13. I have noticed that since this heat wave started (I live in Central Illinois), that I have been feeling more tired, sluggish and general worn-out feeling. I also have been getting headaches and sinus aches. I'm taking all the necessary precautions (I stay indoors in an air conditioned environment, drink lots of fluids-but perhaps not enough, taking it easy...
  14. hmmmm. I've been using their lip products and I'm still having problems with gluten coming from somewhere. Sounds like maybe I need to toss them out?
  15. Yikes! I've been using their lip products for some time now...sounds like I need to throw them out? If they can't be more clear about whether or not there is gluten in these products, I don't trust them. But it seems like there are a lot of threads about BB and they have conflicting opinions as to whether the lip products are safe or not. However, just about...
  16. thanks for sharing your experience, Amanda. I don't think I will subscribe to this site, then. I just don't have the money...not to mention all the extra money I have to pay for doctor's visits, tests and special gluten free products!
  17. yes, my back pain is much better. It hasn't completely gone but it is a helluva lot better than it was. I will be seeing a physical therapist in a couple of weeks. Right now I'm afraid to do much exercise as I fear that it could make my back worse. I love to swim and do yoga, but with yoga I have to really lay off until I can talk to a therapist. Thanks for...
  18. and, yes, I hate it that nuts are all processed in facilities with wheat! Very annoying. I can't seem to find any nuts in my town that are safe besides Planters (which only have limited types of nuts, mostly salted). I just make an order from nutsonline.com but they were SO expensive. Urghh.
  19. see, my problem is that I don't have any reaction when I'm glutened. Which is great, but also a problem because I don't know if I continue to accidentally consume gluten which is preventing me from healing. I will get my blood rechecked in October in Chicago, but 3 months ago, my antibodies were still very elevated, despite being on the gluten free diet for...
  20. Ok, thanks for letting me know. I won't eat any in the future until they are more clear about their policies. I can't stand companies who are so vague and unhelpful!
  21. does anyone know if the small size regular ones are safe? I seem to be very sensitive to CC, but don't have any instant reaction (it just seems to wear down my immune system over time). Really conflicted as to whether I should eat it or not...
  22. I'm aware that the last post was 5 years ago. Yet I didn't want to start a new thread because I thought this might annoy people?
  23. she does strike me as pretty holier-than-thou. I think she has some good information in this book, but also some very bad information. I've never cheated. It's funny as the gi doctor who diagnosed me told me it was fine if I wanted to cheat every once and awhile. BS!
  24. No, I don't use their microwave popcorn. I'm just talking about their plain corn kernels. So there is no risk with cross contamination and their plain corn kernels?
