  1. I just went to see Dr.Semrad at the University of Chicago's Celiac center. I didn't get tested for other food intolerances, but found out that I do carry the HLA DQ2 gene and that my IgA antibodies are still elevated. Very frustrating as I've been on a strict gluten free diet for 6 months. I got tested for a bunch of food intolerances at an alternative clinic...
  2. I won't stop eating dairy or other food groups besides gluten until I get more concrete information. I've been warned about "false positive" IgG tests, particularly from alternative clinics. I've read from reliable sources including John's Hopkins and Mayo Clinic doctors that often these tests can be quite inaccurate and people end up going on super strict...
  3. is new. Please welcome me into the community!

  4. I was just diagnosed with Vitamin A deficiency as well as a Zinc deficiency. All my other vitamins were apparently ok. I've read that Vitamin A deficiency is very rare and only happens in people with severe Celiac disease. Well, I was diagnosed with celiac disease back in May 2010 and just came positive for the HLA DQ2 gene as well. Also, my IgA levels are...
  5. thanks for all your advice, Shauna. I still need to get a lot of results from these tests so I'm not sure if it's gluten or some other additional foods that are causing the problems. I'm hoping to get these results soon.
  6. Well, just to update you on this thread. Turns out I'm NOT a hyperchondriac as I just got retested for my IgA and it still came out very high, despite the 6 months of the gluten free diet. Also, I tested positive for the Celiac gene HLL DQ2. I also found out that I'm low in my Vitamin A and Zinc. I just got all this information today from the Chicago Celiac...
  7. I actually was in Seattle last summer. I didn't go to any of those places, but did go to Cinnamon bakery at Pike Place Market several times. They have great gluten free cookies. The problem is, many of their products are not gluten free so there are cross contamination issues. I don't seem to have any reaction that I know of if I get glutened, so I'm not...
  8. that's interesting that these antiacid meds just block the symptoms but don't improve them. I have gotten a bunch of test results back recently about what foods I'm allergic to. The problem is, the clinic won't share the results with me until I make another appointment and go in and see them. It's an alternative medicine place about 45 miles south of where...
  9. I'll actually be living in Portland the month of February 2011. I'm hoping that I can find some work out there with the gluten free bakeries/companies, etc. However, I am only there for one month as I'm living in Illinois and that is all the time I can take out of my job here to be there. I really want to move out there. My job kinda sucks here and I really...
  10. I was diagnosed with Celiac in May 2010. I just saw an alternative medicine doctor and she said that there was no doubt about it, I have leaky gut as well. She wasn't sure if I had yeast overgrowth, but suspected it. For the last month or so, I've tried to reduce the amount of sweets that I eat drastically. This has been hard because I am such a sweet tooth...
  11. I suspect that I have Candida overgrowth. I have many symptoms of it and have struggled with vaginal yeast infections since I was 13. But I also feel very tired, sinus congestion/headaches, depression/anxiety and a number of other things. I was diagnosed with Celiac back in May 2010. But I just saw an alternative medicine doctor and she said that there was...
  12. My mom and I were wondering if there was a correlation between Celiac and Lyme Disease. I was diagnosed with Lyme Disease in the fall of 2001, right after Sept 11. I had been to a rural part of New Jersey in August and was staying in a nasty bug and animal infested house. As soon as I got back to Nebraska (where I lived at the time), I felt awful. Main symptoms...
  13. Cool! Thanks everyone! I appreciate the help. Looking forward to tracking some of these places down.
  14. I'll be visiting Cincinnati for 4 days and was wondering if anyone could recommend any restaurants/cafes/dining for gluten free options. Also any natural/specialty food stores. I look forward to hearing from you!
  15. I just got my thyroid tested and it was normal. I also had normal levels of Vitamin D and Iron. I've had 2 laparoscopies in the past to check for endometriosis, but none was found either time. I will try to find a gyn I can talk to about the periods...the problem is there aren't many here in my town that are that good, or are covered by my health insurance...
  16. I've had problems with chronic yeast infections (the female kind) since I was 13. There have been times that I've had them for months at a time and couldn't get rid of them, no matter what medication I took. Since going gluten free 4 months ago, I haven't had another infection. However, i've had 2 UTIs (urinary tract infection) and most likely bacterial vaginoisis...
  17. I've noticed one thing since going gluten free 4 months ago: my periods are coming more and more often, like every 3 weeks. It's a drag because I'll start one, and 3 weeks later (from the first day of the previous period), I'll get one again! Mine have always been regular, but never this close together. I don't take any birth control pills, and haven't had...
  18. I'm having the opposite issue: my periods are coming more and more often, like every 3 weeks. It's a drag because I'll start one, and 3 weeks later (from the first day of the previous period), I'll get one again! Mine have always been regular, but never this close together. Any ideas?
  19. I don't seem to get any side affects when glutened, or none that I've noticed so far. So I may be continuing to consume gluten and not know it. I'm being extremely careful in everything I eat, drink, etc. I'm also making sure my medications are gluten free as well as my toothpaste, lipstick, shampoo, etc. I just don't know. I think some of this fatigue is...
  20. thanks for your suggestions. But I'm already seeing a counselor, who is very good, several times a month. I just still have trouble. And my insurance company has offered me some compensation for the accident. I'm just angry because the insurance company of the other driver have been such jerks. I will be buying a new car soon, and the money given to me by...
  21. Actually, I'll be seeing a Celiac specialist doctor at the Celiac Center of Chicago in November, so hopefully I can get some of my questions answered or get some relief. I've called the center a few times. The first person I spoke to was really helpful. However, the 2nd time I called, the girl didn't seem to have any answers or knowledge at all. I asked her...
  22. Welcome to celiac com Coolclimates! I see you do some wool work. I know an artist who does work art also. I'll send her your ETsY shop info. :-)

  23. ok, i've been crying more lately. But it's not just the fact that I'm not feeling better from the gluten-free diet after 4 months. I'm also in real danger of losing my job and having trouble finding other work, plus I was a victim in a car accident a month ago and have not had a car since (except for the last week in whom a nice man has lent me one of his...
  24. Thanks for the support, everyone. It means a lot to me. Some days I just get kind of discouraged, but we all know those days. Yes, I have gotten extensively tested for about every food allergy that exists, plus stuff like pollen, mold, etc. They all came back negative. So I can rule out any allergies. However, I do wonder if I have other food intolerances...
  25. Tell me about it! I get so tired of the sky high prices of all the products and having to explain my problems over and over to people who just "don't get it." On top of that, my doctors are treating me like I'm a hypochondriac now. I feel so frustrated.
