  1. Does anyone know if Amport foods (including the dried fruits) are gluten free and if they are processed in a gluten-free facility?
  2. I can certainly understand your frustration. Sometimes it can take a long, long time until you start to heal. A lot of it depends on how long you've been sick. The fact that several of your symptoms have gone away is very promising. Do know that it can take up to several years before you are back to normal (again, depending on how long you've been sick and...
  3. I have these dreams (or nightmares) quite often. Fortunately I do not get sick if I get glutened (in real life, and in my dreams as well), but it still harms me in the long run.
  4. yes, I had a biopsy. I have to get a repeat one in 2 weeks because my antibodies are still very high after being on the gluten-free diet for 1 1/2 years
  5. that would make me super angry, too. What the hell does she know about celiac disease anyway? It would be one thing if she actually KNEW a thing or 2 about the diet, but it sounds like she doesn't have a clue.
  6. Hmm, I'm trying to remember. Tuk Tuk Thai (just awesome Thai food), South City Kitchen in Midtown and Sunflower Cafe (or Blue Sunflower or something like that, it's a vegetarian restaurant, too). I ate at the Tuk Tuk place twice so I actually just ate at 3 restaurants!
  7. yes, be more insistent to get tested even if the doctors think you are crazy! Life is short and it's not worth living in such pain and agony. It just makes me furious to hear how doctors treat patients, especially when they feel so ill in the first place! I've had a few doctors tell me that I just have psychological issues, but I know they are dead wrong...
  8. is the name of the forum "the Lyme disease thread"? It's so long that I've just read a few pages of it. I wonder if there's any way to be tested to see if I still have any Lyme disease lingering in my body.
  9. so sorry to hear what you're going through. I've been gluten free for 1 1/2 years and my antibodies are still sky high. Fortunately, I don't have GI issues (other than acid reflux which has improved) but am so tired all the time. It's so frustrating!
  10. Yes, I've also heard that people have been not been allowed to be tested for Celiac if they are too old (the myth that celiac disease is a childhood disease and you will "outgrow" it) or not skinny (actually quite a few people with celiac disease are normal or overweight, not underweight). Don't give up! Please keep us posted, ok?
  11. I had a bout of Lyme disease back in 2001. I caught it pretty early on and took 1 month of powerful antibiotics. My symptoms did not return. I was diagnosed with Celiac Disease in May 2010. I've been on the gluten-free diet ever since. Fast forward 1 1/2 years later to Oct 2011. I've continued to have very elevated antibodies despite being on the gluten...
  12. Well, I did have a bout of Lyme disease back in 2001. But I took a month of strong antibiotics and I thought that it went away. Is it possible that I could be continuing to have issues with Lyme, even though it's 10 years later? And if so, does Lyme cause blunted villi and elevated antibodies? Weluvgators, I have checked all my meds. I take quite a few...
  13. Yikes! I hope that it isn't the Lyme disease that I had 10 years ago. But even if I did have active Lyme disease, does it mimic Celiac Disease (the high antibodies and blunting of the villi)? Or is it maybe that I'm not healing with the celiac disease because the Lyme disease is preventing me from doing so? I need to do some more research about Lyme disease...
  14. I'm so sorry to hear what you are going through. I would definitely get checked for Celiac disease. To refuse to test you because you aren't white is insane. Maybe it's less common in certain ethnic groups, but it still exists! I met a black waiter awhile back who suffers from terrible celiac disease. I would not give up with getting tested for it! I hope...
  15. these were my results: TgG IgA 53 (20 or less is normal) Deam gliadin IgA Ab 83 (20 or less is normal) these numbers are actually slightly higher than they were in April 2011, when I got my last blood tests. I'm also wondering if it could be something different than celiac disease all together. But all 4 of my blood tests have showed elevated...
  16. Britgirl, that is interesting that you mentioned Lyme disease. I had a bout of that in 2001, way before I was diagnosed with celiac disease. I actually got diagnosed with it pretty quickly (as I suspected that I had it) and took 1 month of strong antibiotics. But I'm hoping that was it and that it hasn't somehow stayed in my body and caused all these other...
  17. I'm beginning to worry that I might have this. I was diagnosed with celiac disease in May 2010. Since then, I've been on the gluten-free diet. However, the last few blood tests I've gotten have shown that my antibodies are still very high. In fact, this latest blood test indicated that my antibodies were even higher than they were 6 months ago! I almost never...
  18. Lisa, is there a reason why you don't recommend their products? I can see by their quotes that I wouldn't trust them either. I'm worried about taking any supplements these days because of possible cross contamination.
  19. I just heard from a friend who recommend that I try Shaklee products. I've been on the gluten-free diet for 1 1/2 years now and still have very elevated antibodies. She swears by them. But she also said that they would cure all my problems, which I know is not true. I think she's trying to be helpful and optimistic but doesn't understand celiac disease. ...
  20. I have hung out in the Super Sensitive forum a bit but I might go back and see what they might say regarding this issue.
  21. Latest results Oct 2011 from the Chicago Celiac Center (worse than in April!):

TgG IgA 53 (20 or less is normal)

Deam gliadin IgA Ab 83 (20 or less is normal)

Have to get a repeat endoscopy on Nov 17 in the Chicago Celiac Center to see why I'm not responding to the gluten-free diet and if there are other issues.

  22. BTW, I had the same tests done in April 2011. The results: Tissue Transglutaminase IgA Ab was 44 (20 or below is normal) and the Deam Gliadin IgA Ab was 79 (20 or below is normal). So the numbers were even worse this time around!
  23. thanks for your nice comments. Yes, I have been tested for thyroid recently and no problems there. Both of my parents have hypothyroid so I test often. I had the Tissue Transglutaminase IgA Ab which was 53 (20 or below is normal) and the Deam Gliadin IgA Ab which was 83 (20 or below is normal) Well, it sounds like I'm not the only one with this frustrating...
  24. I just found out from my most recent blood panel test that my antibodies are even higher than what they were 6 months ago! For the last 6 months, I have been so insanely careful about what I eat but I still don't seem to be healing. I have confirmed celiac disease but will be going back up to Chicago in a few weeks to get a repeat endoscopy to see if my intestines...
  25. I just came back from Atlanta a few days ago and I must say that I was very impressed with the variety of gluten free options here, as well as people's knowledge of the gluten-free diet in general. I ate out 4 times while I was here and each place knew exactly what I meant about cross contamination and other concerns. I've been to restaurants that have a...
