  1. I agree. I can't stand it. It just sounds ignorant and uninformed to me. I don't mean to sound like a snob, but it really bothers me. Especially when people that actually have the disease talk like this. I know I don't always use correct English or terminology but for something this major, it just really irks me. Especially in medical articles.
  2. then why do so many people (including those who have Celiac disease) use the term "Celiac's"? Is there just a lot of ignorance or what's the deal?
  3. I often notice people referring to Celiac Disease as "Celiac's Disease." Is this incorrect? As far as I know, the term "Celiac" is a medical condition, not the name of a person as some diseases are called (for example Parkinson's disease). So why then do so many people say "Celiac's"? Is it just pure ignorance? I'm not sure if this is the correct thread to...
  4. I do use a humidifier in my room and also use Ayr nasal gel, but still have nosebleeds. Like I said, they are much better now, but still come more often than I would like...
  5. sounds like nosebleeds are more common than I thought. I mention nosebleeds as one of my symptoms of Celiac Disease and everyone I've told is in awe and can't see how it relates to celiac disease at all. But I explain that you can have up to 300 different symptoms affecting any body part. I also used to suffer from severe and chronic yeast infections since...
  6. I got retested in February 2012 at the Chicago Celiac Center and my numbers are finally going down. I also had a repeat endoscopy back in November 2011 which came out excellent. I'm happy to say that I'm finally making some progress and have been feeling better, too.

  7. I know that there have been some much older threads written about nose bleeds in relation to Celiac Disease, but they haven't been updated in years, so I decided to do a new one. I've suffered from nosebleeds all of my life, particularly in the winter. I've had particularly bad stretches where I will have up to 3-4 per day and they are very hard to stop...
  8. what a spineless jerk. Huge shame on him.
  9. I have had terrible yeast infections in the past and personally, Monistat was not strong enough...they would come back. I use Clotrimazole (also Gyne Lotrinum sp?), also Terazol which is prescribed but VERY strong stuff. i've also taken Diflucan (ineffective) and Nystatin (somewhat effective). Anyway, I hope you feel better soon!
  10. lettuce sharing equipment that processes wheat? Now that's a new one. Yeah, I don't know what to make of the "no flour" thing on the chili. Strange for sure...
  11. yes, I am aware of Publix. I'm not sure if I would be able to find a Whole Foods outside of Jacksonville (I'll be flying into JAX but am not planning on spending much if any time there). Tallahassee might have one, but outside of those 2 cities, I'd be a little surprised. Does anyone know of any dining in any of these areas?
  12. hi all, in January, I will be going to Northern Florida and the Panhandle for 2 weeks. I will be in Amelia Island and also might go to Gainesville, Tallahassee, Apalachicola, Savannah, GA and other parts of the panhandle. I have been to Florida many times (my mom is from Gainesville) but this will be the first time going since diagnosed with Celiac disease...
  13. I've looked on it recently but I cannot seem to find anyone in my area. I live in east central Illinois, but even when I look in the Chicago area, only 1 match appears! I don't know if it's just a very unknown site or whether no one uses it, but I wasn't impressed. It's frustrating because I think something like that could be very valuable, but maybe I just...
  14. certainly doesn't sound worth it to me. If it was free and the server was down, it would be one thing. But it's super annoying if you pay that amount of $ only to have a bad website.
  15. thanks for your comments so far. Yes, I'm disappointed with their lack of consistency and also with their crazy labeling (also inconsistent). I wish they would get their act together and be more careful about not contaminating their no gluten products or otherwise just don't have these products in the first place to tempt and sicken people.
  16. do you mean Rice Dream brand of rice milk? I've stopped drinking that stuff, too, because of the CC issues with barley.
  17. hi all. I have pretty bad Celiac Disease but do not get sick if I get glutened. Rather I seem to get a very delayed reaction that can lead to weight loss, extreme fatigue, etc. Yet my antibodies have been elevated for nearly 18 months, even though I'm very strict about my gluten-free diet. So my question for those of you who do get ill when glutened: can...
  18. I eat the TJ's granola often. I also eat their nuts, but only on packages where there is an allergen statement that doesn't mention wheat. I also eat their pasta and rice. But this whole "no gluten ingredients" thing is freaking me out. Despite not getting sick if I eat gluten, my body is extremely sensitive. All of my blood tests have had very elevated antibodies...
  19. I do not get sick if I get eat gluten so it's very hard for me to tell whether I'm having a bad reaction. However, I do have Celiac Disease and all my blood tests have showed elevated antibodies, even up to a month ago. I had an endoscopy 2 weeks ago and still waiting to hear the results although I heard that I've been making some progress. The only way I...
  20. thanks for the info about Costco, Cathey. But there is no Costco in my town!
  21. yeah, if I get nauseous (which isn't often, fortunately), I do tend to really fight it and not throw up. The last time I actually threw up was in 1995 from food poisoning. I've only thrown up a few times in my life that I can remember. Yet I am so scared of it. The last time I was about to "lost it" was in Feb 2011 because of a bad reaction to Clarithromycian...
  22. Irishdaveyboy, thanks for the info about testing. I live in the United States and I notice that you are from Ireland (which, by the way, is absolutely gorgeous. I went there once in 2009). I know that the testing and labeling of gluten-free products is different in each country. Are you referring to laws in Ireland or the US? Or all countries? I'm a bit confused...
  23. I read about your numbers still being high. This analysis of celiac research done by the FDA might be of interest to you.

  24. well, in the cases I'm thinking of, there are 2 ingredients: sugar and dried cherries. And some of these other products in question have more than one ingredient, too. This is a totally different question than the one I asked about "naturally gluten free". This question is not about the number of ingredients in a product. It's about whether a product that...
