  1. My biggest concerns are the long flights/layovers/delays. Once I am at my destination I'm fine - it's just getting there that bothers me!
  2. When I travel to other countries I always use little laminated restaurant cards to ensure we understand one another.
  3. Thanks so much for your sweet words and for praying - I really could use a miracle right now! I have not even looked at the cooking threads because it makes me too nauseous.
  4. The last two months have been quite rough and I have missed you! I feel far worse after going gluten free than ever before. I have also eliminated dairy and soy. The doctor is testing me for everything he can think of (I have severe chronic D, nausea and a wide variety of other lovely symptoms). Found out I have a GI infection so am on antibiotics which...
  5. My doctor and chiro told me to stop ingesting anything including aspartame (in "diet" products) as it apparently can exacerbate joint pain if it is pre-existing. I detest aspartame flavour, anyway, so it has been easy for me to avoid.
  6. Glad it works for some! No matter the dose (up to 10 mg) I get no help from it whatsoever. Sigh...
  7. Interesting. That is expensive for such a slim magazine! At least the culinary one I mentioned costing $11.50 per issue it is nearly 200 pages packed with interesting info. Will do some googling on "Gluten-Free Living" to see whether I can get it in Canada. OK - just checked and I can get it here but of course it is more expensive than the US as usual...
  8. One of my favourite food magazines is $11.50 per issue but it is absolutely outstanding - probably one of the best on the planet so that makes it worth it to me. Would you enlighten us a bit more on the content, number of pages, etc.? You've piqued my curiosity!
  9. Yes, I do take it nightly at the same time and have done so for months. Have taken it before for ages - I just wish I would see some results in my sleep! It is so rare that I sleep well that it is a shock when it finally does happen. The pain just makes it impossible to sleep - my chronic pain management doctor and I are working on something to enable...
  10. Sorry - I meant only fresh cuts of meat (i.e. from the butcher) - not processed and definitely not marinated!
  11. There are many ingredients and food intrinsically gluten free such as fresh fish, meat, vegetables and fruits, vanilla beans, pureed tomatoes, whole peppercorns and so on. It would not make sense to label such items gluten free. If I were to purchase only things labeled gluten-free it would be very slim pickings! ETA: I buy very few processed foods...
  12. Definitely. My insomnia has been raging for many years and has become severe the last four (lots has to do with constant chronic pain and trying desperately to find a position in which to sleep). Last night I was up about eight times to walk around. Have been strictly gluten free for six months with zero improvement with insomnia. Those who can sleep...
  13. I believe eliminating corn may be my next step. Have been very ill again lately - have eliminated dairy and soy as well as gluten and am feeling more sick than ever. It is so rare for me to sleep that I I can literally count my best sleeps on one hand in the last several years. Hope to get to the bottom of this soon!
  14. Canning salt is coarse salt - is your Kosher coarse? Fine and coarse salts measure differently so you may want to check before you make the saurkraut! Even coarse Kosher probably is not coarse enough. Canning salt is very chunky, almost like a finishing salt (but don't use that - far too expensive). Pickling/canning salt is very inexpensive - it may...
  15. Thanks, Gail. I am in the middle of nearly agonizing pain at the moment - I cannot walk on my own, nor can I sit. My SI joint is out and keeps popping out nearly daily. We are to leave for our house in Croatia next Saturday so I am in a panic. Plus my sister who has never been to Europe before is to come with us - she got her passport, bought luggage...
  16. Hi! I've taken Neurontin but sadly it did nothing for me. However, it does seem to work for many people so it may be worth a try. It knocks many people right out but had the opposite effect on me - it kept me wired. It also made me feel dizzy, giddy, and just plain strange. I did not like the side effects but gradual withdrawal was not an issue. I've...
  17. Oh, wow! How wonderful! It will be fantastic pulling those foods off the shelf in winter. I'm sad because I hurt my back yet again (the third time lately) and am unable to continue canning right now. I have so many red and green tomatoes, lots of apples, cukes, etc. and will have to end up giving a lot away. I so badly wanted to can much more!
  18. Wow - that is incredible! I would do ANYTHING to alleviate my severe chronic and debilitating pain. I've been strictly gluten free for six months, dairy free maybe five weeks and soy free a few weeks and my back has, in fact, become progressively worse (when I didn't think that was even possible). Consequently my chronic insomnia is running rampant as well...
  19. Thanks, Karen. I will check to see whether it is available here. My husband has a fierce hankering for some Steak and Ale Pie! Well, um, so do I...
  20. I love it when gluten-free bread really looks like bread. I know what you mean about cooler weather. Just two weeks ago we had lots of frost; now it is 90 degrees which is incredibly unusual for us this time of year. Not bread baking weather, that is for sure!
  21. It sure affected my teeth. They have been sensitive for years and to be honest I thought nothing of it. So what? But about two months ago (after being gluten-free four months) I noticed no zaps whilst eating a popsicle. Now neither hot nor cold bother them whatsoever. A small perk, but I'll take it!
  22. Does anyone with a Vita Mix grind their own flours? I will be receiving mine shortly and plan to make my own nut butters and various flours. I really, really want to get my hands on some chestnut flour, too.
  23. The last of the duck - this time pomegranate glazed. Lemon-infused rice. Two kinds of deviled eggs - brandy truffled and horseradish. Steamed broccoli with crispy capers.
  24. My celiac was discovered after I requested bloodwork because another family member was diagnosed with gluten intolerance. I was so sure I did not have it and did not even give it a second thought because I was not sick. When the nurse called to tell me I have celiac I was absolutely stunned. NOT what I was expecting. I still did not believe it (at that...
  25. At the time I did not realize it but I strongly suspect that all my miscarriages were due to celiac disease. My tooth enamel is much stronger than six months ago (had dental appointment last week). My teeth are no longer sensitive at all. I also used to have ridges in my fingernails and they are now smooth so I am absorbing nutrients properly!
