  1. Hi Lucia, I'm so glad to hear you're feeling better! I'm sorry to hear you're so hungry though... I know that feeling! As Skylark suggested, perhaps there are some safe foods you could add. Can you eating oily fish at oil? The extra fats might help your appetite a little. Sorry if this isn't much help, I mostly replied to say how happy I am for you :...
  2. Poor you... that sounds horrible. I'd recommend looking at other possible food intolerances. Soy seems to cause me horrible anxiety and I don't think I'm the only one. Good luck!
  3. Lucia, I'm really happy to hear this! Here's hoping for further improvements :-)

    ARCHIVED Anxiety

Hi... I had terrible anxiety for several years before going gluten free. I'm doing somewhat better now but in the process of going gluten-free, I discovered that soy seems to makes me very anxious indeed. I've read that other people experience this too, so it may be worth eliminating it from your diet to see if that helps. Sadly, it lurks in many foods, just...
  5. Hi Leonie, A quick reply re the UK - the two chain companies that are easiest to find are Wetherspoons (pubs - of varying salubriousness) and La Tasca (Spanish restaurants). Both companies list gluten-free options as part of their main menu. If you're in London, Leon restaurants also do this and are really good.If you're on Facebook, there's a group called...
  6. is still sorting out her profile :)

  7. I know, it's crazy - I'm cutting matlodextrin etc because I don't trust the advice of Coeliac UK. My doctor says I don't need B12 shots despite a fairly low score and private healthcare is so expensive in the UK, so I'm trying supplements for now. I'll keep this in mind though, as I didn't know that - thanks
  8. Hi there and thanks for this. As I understand it, the law has changed so that by 2012, only food with <20ppm can be labelled 'gluten free' and anything with 20 to 100 ppm will be labelled 'very low gluten', which will include Codex wheat starch. I'm not sure how this will affect labelling of malt vinegar and maltodextrin. Until this month, I was using...
  9. Hi there. I've been gluten-free for seven months. When I began, I bought new kitchenware for myself and put fluorescent labels on any of my husband's foods that contained gluten - but we found that cooking became really stressful as it was so difficult watching out for every stray piece of food that fell off my chopping board or every crumb from his meals...
  10. Thanks for this. You know, I didn't mind going gluten free because I thought it would make me better. I love food and I've made some pretty good food so far this year and hardly miss gluten at all. But now I feel like there's nothing that's good for me and just don't know what to eat, I'm really starting to feel it.
  11. Wow. This really doesn't sound enough to keep you going when you're so weak already. Please be really careful, ok? I can understand why you need the broth

    ARCHIVED Funny But Sad

I found a tiny can of 'spicy fried gluten' in a Chinese supermarket just after I went gluten free. Yuk... but for some reason, I take a perverse pleasure in displaying it on a bookcase
  13. So sorry - this was to ravenwoodglass but I replied in the wrong place. Time for my worn out brain to rest for tonight!
  14. The cost is the big issue there but I have this in mind if things don't improve. Thank you
  15. I've tried so many things. I have tried tinned prunes but that caused much bloating and not much else. Curiously, I'm not in much pain but after it got to a week without, I got some more drastic help from my doctor, which worked a little. I'll try the juice and see if that helps though - thanks!
  16. This really is embarrassing! My doctor provided um, something fairly drastic to tackle the problem from the other point of view, if you see what I mean! It worked, sort of. But I've bought Milk of Magnesia today - I hadn't heard of that before. I'm also going to look into ordering magnesium supplements, which I think may also help with my muscle problems...
  17. I've been wondering about this too. My home is gluten-free - but I work with the public, eat lunch in a staff room populated with sandwich munchers and travel by public transport frequented by some very messy eaters. I get this lip tingling thing that usually only happens away from home. It's hard to know how cautious to be.
  18. Gosh, just read that again and it sounds so depressing, I'm so sorry! I meant that recognizing this helped me understand some of my feelings about food lately, if that makes sense. I'm quite angry with food, I think.
  19. I don't think it's at all weird that you feel betrayed. I was just thinking today about something I read a while ago about how food is a constant in our lives - whatever else you going on, you still need to eat, so food is always there to provides comfort or creativity or sharing... Unless you're us, of course... :/ Hope you feel better soon. I'm going...
  20. Hi Matisse, and thanks for your reply. I'm afraid I've only just seen this message - I'm having some trouble with setting things on up here exactly as I need them. I'm fascinated by your suggestion as I have looked into EDS in the past, both for myself and for a member of my family. I certainly have many of the symptoms (including a mild scoliosis I only...
  21. Thanks for your reply. I'm afraid I've only just seen this message - I'm having some trouble with setting things on up here exactly as I need them. I've checked all my meds, supplements, toiletries etc and replaced lots of kitchenware. I went gluten-free in January after my biopsy but I've known since last summer that I have coeliac disease, so I've...
  22. Lucia, you pooe thing. I'm afraid all I can offer is my sympathy because I'm going through the same thing and feeling equally lost. I'm almost two weeks in to an elimination diet, feeling even worse and starting to doubt my own sanity. Can anyone offer advice on identifying safe and problem foods when any food seems to cause problems? Short of cutting...
  23. Thanks for this, much appreciated! I tried editing straight away but it wouldn't let me. Good to know that I can't delete. Wasn't a case of TMI, I was just too dopey to reply in the right place but I'll be more careful in future. Cheers for the info.
  24. Hi Lisa and thanks for your reply. I'm afraid I was feeling really low when I replied previously - it's just that the idea of constantly challenging food and feeling the effects for so long sounded terrible. But I could happily settle for feeling well 90% of the time, so thank you for this I just love food and cooking and I hate the way this has taken over...
  25. Sorry for such a basic question, but could anyone advise me how to edit or delete a post? I've read that there should be 'edit' and 'delete' buttons but whilst I can sometimes see the 'edit' button on my posts, it's not appearing on the one I want to change and the delete button hasn't appeared at all. I was definitely logged in when I looked at my posts...
