  1. No-one in my immediate family seems to have coeliac disease but my dad found out recently that two relatives on his side of the family do have it. He was tested rather reluctantly, so I hope now he realises I wasn't just being over-dramatic!
  2. Dear all, After a frustrating (and frankly rather awful) Christmas, I'm wondering whether anyone can suggest an online video that would explain coeliac disease to my family and perhaps also explain things like why it would be nice if they could put their sandwiches on plates while I'm visiting. I know there are quite a relevant few available on YouTube...
  3. Oooh, it's not just me! I swear my ears had much more wax when I did my gluten challenge but I think the doctors thought I was crazy. It's still not cleared up after a year gluten-free but maybe one day
  4. The six-month point was about the worst it ever was for me, especially for physical and mental energy. It's almost 11 months now and I realised the other day that I am feeling better, albeit on a rather restricted diet :-)
  5. Hi there, My anxiety used to be much worse than it is now. I've been gluten free for a year and it did take some time. I think giving up soy also helped. I'm certainly better than I was. From your email, you sound as if you're in the UK. Have you been tested or asked for testing for coeliac disease? I don't think a GP could refuse as you seem to...
  6. Maybe I'm missing something here, but wasn't the nurse saying only that she had couldn't eat wheat? I agree that as the school nurse, she should have a better understanding of coeliac disease, but she seemed to be describing her own condition as a wheat intolerance, not a problem with gluten. It may be that she can eat barley products or even tolerate small...
  7. I can't tolerate teff. I made some lovely teff brownies and they made me feel wretched
  8. I haven't gained weight since going gluten-free in January - my hospital doctor said I would but I haven't. I lost weight trying an elimination diet over summer but I'm now back at my usual 120lb. Please remember that sticking to your gluten-free diet stops you doing all kinds of unseen damage to your health. I have various symptoms but finding out that...
  9. I hope I'm not hijacking this thread when I also thank everyone for their comments. It's good to hear that improvement is possible. These problems, plus fatigue, have been the worse aspect of coeliac disease for me and your replies give me some hope. I'll be keeping your advice in mind and looking into new supplements too. Best wishes to you all.
  10. Thank you for your reply. It's so good to think that there might be some improvement in time. There's a similar thread going on at the moment started by gifree that I've joined in with and people there have been encouraging too. I try to look after other areas of my health and I notice the difference if I don't get proper rest, but it's the strange wrong...
  11. Thanks for the kind words. Keep in touch...would love to hear how you're progressing.

    Be well.

  12. Hello and much sympathy to you. I'm afraid I can't offer much advice as I posted a similar message just yesterday. Few people have replied to either of us but I know there are people on here who have experienced cognitive symptoms. I'm a little afraid that no-one's said anything because they have nothing positive to report But if this is the case, perhaps...
  13. Yup, my thyroid tests checked out fine. I just can't seem to do anything with any sense of purpose or efficiency
  14. My memory and concentration have been troublesome since my coeliac disease began in Jan 2009 and it's gotten worse, rather than better, since going gluten-free in Jan 2010. It's mostly a million tiny frustrating things, like forgetting why I came into a room or putting my doorkeys away after opening our first front door, when I still have the second to...
  15. I don't have the same problem but I can confirm that gluten definitely affects my menstruation - hello gluten, goodbye periods, like clockwork. The main reason for my reply though is to suggest that your doctor should keep a close eye on your iron levels, because I expect that with constant periods you're at a high risk of anaemia.
  16. Hi there, Coeliac UK publish an annual guidebook listing gluten-free products - details are available at Open Original Shared Link India
  17. I have a postcard with the following quote, which I remind myself of every so often: 'Look after your body... if you don't, where will you live'? Keep well x
  18. Yup, I think 240-odd is way too low, especially as I can have so many of the B12 deficiency symptoms. I'm taking sublinguals and I'm encouraged by the small improvement I saw in my last blood test. I'm really not sure what I can tolerate or not. I tried a pretty strict FODMAP diet and didn't think I had seen much improvement. Pretty much everything still...
  19. The ground almond idea sounds excellent - thanks to both of you
  20. Oh my, you guys really like your pumpkins! Until the last few years, I only ever came across them as Halloween decorations, not as real food. I shall look into these suggestions too. The marshmallows sound especially yummy
  21. That sounds amazing... I've never made cheesecake but this could be worth trying. Could I ask if you have a recipe? Thank you
  22. I thank him for my gluten free house all the time! We had a mixed kitchen for the first few months and it was really stressful We host Thanksgiving at our house and I do all the cooking - he's the only American here and we invite English friends round. I'll try food.com, cheers. Gotta have something sweet and pumpkin-ish
  23. I absolutely agree that life is easier and healthier if your home is gluten-free. It helps so much to know there's one place to relax and not worry about everything you touch and eat
  24. Dear all, Many thanks for your replies and suggestions, which I will be looking into. Unfortunately, I can't use any recipes involving flour but I'm interested in any further suggestions too. I'm really glad to hear Libby's is safe! SA1937 - I see your point about not wanting to make other people 'jump through hoops', but my husband and I agree that...
  25. Sigh. Another brain fog day. As the heading suggests, I'd also appreciate stuffing recipes that don't include breadcrumbs or onion, if that's at all possible. Cheers
