ARCHIVED When Is Enough Enough?
India replied to India's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Thank you for this suggestion. I think this is something I am going to have to look into. As I live in the UK and rely on our National Health Service, I would have to pay private fees, which are very expensive - but this may be something I have to try. -

Thanks for your reply and good wishes. Are you starting to feel better now? I wouldn't mind what I had to do without if I felt better! I'm keeping a food diary again, but it pretty much says 'ate - bloated - tired out - still don't need the bathroom'. So apart from a few particularly unpleasant foods, it's been really hard to figure out what the problems... -
ARCHIVED When Is Enough Enough?
India replied to India's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Part of my problem is that I just don't know what any of my safe foods are. I feel bloated and unwell every time I eat. I'm also blessed with a raging appetite so I need to inflict this on myself at least every couple of hours. I've had to swap a couple of my base foods because I just can't face eating them again. Even the thought of more sweet potato... -
ARCHIVED When Is Enough Enough?

I've had my thyroid checked twice in the last year and apparently it's fine - thanks for thinking of this though. I read in several places that lamb and pears would be good base foods (I chose lamb somewhat reluctantly because it's horribly expensive here in the UK!). I'm coming round to the idea of carrying on with the diet so I think I will do a version... -

Hi Katie, I'd be really glad to receive this info from you - thank you so much! I'm a little cautious about posting my email address but there's a link to it on my profile. I've been reading about the FODMAPS diet so it's really interesting to hear your experience of it. I also asked my doctor this week to refer me for a SIBO test so this could be really... -
ARCHIVED When Is Enough Enough?

Today is day nine, but there have been those pesky sodas. I don't think soda withdrawal is a problem, as I'm constantly trying to give it up and I don't usually have this kind of problem. But - I know it's junk and I am quitting it. I don't really eat any other junk food - I used to have chocolate but I gave up dairy a week or so before I began the elimination... -

Thanks for this - I really could scream today! I looked at the methyl form that Solgar offers and it's not sublingual so I didn't bother with it, but I guess I should see what else I can find. Sigh. I've done so much online research on coeliac disease in the last year but there's always more to learn. This condition really clashes with my RSI problems... -
ARCHIVED When Is Enough Enough?

Hi there and thanks. I worried about my calorie intake, especially as I've lost weight within this week. I think that since I switched from turkey to lamb, I've had enough fat and calories but I'm starting to feel ill at the thought of any more of that, because it's such a greasy meat. I also would like not to eat another piece of sweet potato for a very... -

Hi DG61 - I made a general reply but realised I'd also like to ask how you figured out which foods to cut out? I don't eat corn or soy and I've also cut out dairy, but my symptoms are always present so it's hard to find other trigger foods (though millet and teff were not fun to try). I'm really struggling with an elimination diet at present but if you have... -

Thank you all for your replies! I've been looking into your suggestions already. I already buy from Solgar to avoid soy, maize starch and other nasties I keep finding in the best-known brands. Their B12 is vegan friendly so presumably casein free. My diet for the last few months has been fairly pure - hardly any processed food except for things like hummous... -
ARCHIVED When Is Enough Enough?
India posted a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hi all, I posted a message a few days ago about an elimination/rotation diet I've started to try to identify extra intolerances. I had lots of good advice and I'm looking into those things but in the meantime, I'm looking for advice about if and how I should continue this horrible regime. I've been increasingly tired and brain-foggy for the last... -
ARCHIVED Suggested Supplements
India posted a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hi all, Could you helpful people advise what supplements I should be taking? I live in the UK and my help from our health service hasn't extended much beyond my diagnosis. Blood tests in January showed I was at the low end of 'normal' for most vitamins, which the doctors say is fine. I do have a prescription for calcium/vit D, given somewhat grudgingly... -
I went gluten free in January, not because of the new year but because that's when my biopsy was finally done. Since then, my periods have returned, my fingernails have grown and my anxiety is quite a bit better - I think the latter is connected to giving up soy. I'm afraid that other than that, the rest of my symptoms remain and some new ones have made...

ARCHIVED Elimination Diet
India replied to India's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hi everyone, Thanks for all of your replies - I really appreciate your advice and support. I won't answer everything as you've given me lots of good advice. But I've cut right down on the soda today. I know it's terrible stuff but I get so tired... anyway, I'm giving it up. Again. I'm pretty sure I'm properly gluten-free but I'll keep being vigilant... -
ARCHIVED Feeling Awful!
India replied to justwantrelief's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I'd agree with all of this and add that soy seems to really increase my anxiety problems. It turns up in a lot of gluten-free foods, unfortuntely. -
ARCHIVED Roasted Chicken From The Grocery Store... Sigh...
India replied to Monklady123's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
It sounds as if the plain chickens have a pretty high risk of cross-contamination if other chickens are cooked with gluteny sauce in the same place. As suggested by ravenwoodglass, I wouldn't eat this - even after removing the skin :/ A pain, I know. -
ARCHIVED Elimination Diet
India replied to India's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Sorry for the length of the above message. I should have added the the hospital asked my doctor to prescribe vitamin D and he ran the blood tests again and said I didn't need it (I think the level was 70). He also said my B12 level was fine (238, lower than the 247 when I was diagnosed) but I've ordered sublingual B12 this week because I know it would be... -
ARCHIVED Elimination Diet
India posted a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hi all, I've been trying out a self-imposed elimination diet for four days and I'm feeling really rough. I'm eating turkey, spring greens, sweet potato, occasional well-cooked beets and olive oil. Also rice until yesterday but I thought that might be a problem so I cut it out. Today was still awful though. Oh, and um... I've been having soda because... -
This is definitely the case for me - gluten makes my periods stop, being gluten-free makes them start again - I found this out while testing a gluten-free diet and then doing a gluten-free challenge. Since going properly gluten-free in January, I've had every single period. I've only really been glutened in that time and still had my next period, but it was...

ARCHIVED Assuming Some Foods Are Gluten Free
India replied to MWIXON's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Not long after going gluten-free at the start of this year, I was already eating completely plain beansprouts from a sealed bag when I noticed the packet said they weren't suitable for a gluten-free diet, presumably due to the CC risk. Who would have guessed that? It's a ridiculous way to live, but I've learnt to check -everything-. -
ARCHIVED I Have Fingernails!
India replied to India's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Thanks for your replies... I've had a lactose intolerance test but wondering if casein could be a problem nonetheless? I'm in the UK and I've never heard it mentioned here but I'm curious about it. I'm thinking about trying an elimination diet but still deciding on the details. CC could also be an issue... my home is gluten free but I've noticed I have... -
ARCHIVED I Have Fingernails!
India posted a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
...After six months of very little progress - still feeling bloated and icky, should post about that soon - I noticed today that my fingernails are getting longer and stronger. Not sure if I should put it down to coeliac recovery or my efforts to increase my calcium intake but hey, one part of my is looking healthier. Woooo! -
ARCHIVED Back To Work And Exhausted
India replied to labrisbin's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
It's a while ago now, but I still remember that when I was 21 and healthy and first started working full-time, I came home every night and did nothing but sleep. Even without coeliac disease, going back to work after a break is exhausting; working in a shop and dealing with people all day is also very tiring and you've not been used to it for a while. Take... -

Hello there... I love your name I've only recently started posting on here but I've been lurking for a while. I've had mild problems with hypermobile joints since I was a teenager but four years ago, I developed repetitive strain injury (a risk for hypermobile people) in my arms - this quickly progressed to being muscle tension/pain, muscle weakness... -
I've found that my PMS has become worse since going gluten-free in January. I discovered that my lack of periods was due to coeliac disease - they came back as soon as I went gluten free, but unfortunately so did horrible monthly mood swings. Has anyone else experienced this and did it improve? Allie
