  1. My daughter used to be intolerant to dairy (she eventually grew out of it) but she couldn't tolerate goat products either. My doctor said that's very common along with soy intolerance if you're dairy intolerant.
  2. It was just brown rice pasta that I eat all the time. Never react to it. I just don't understand the deal with natural flavouring...sometimes it has gluten, sometimes not and in Canada they don't have to declare gluten on the label. What a PAIN!
  3. Last night I ate some President's Choice Fire Roasted Tomatoe Sauce with gluten free pasta and within an hour I got a really bad reaction. Went to look at the label and it contains "natural flavours". I assumed I had inadvertently glutened myself but when I called PC this morning to ask about the ingredients she said the product contains no gluten. What...
  4. Sorry about the accident. If you were to have brain fog you would have been "out of it" since the glutening (at least that's my experience). I glutened myself the last two days in a row by accident and I am so foggy right now I barly know my own name. If you were feeling out of it prior to the accident then it could be brain fog but if not and you were...
  5. My mom has two celiac genes (just as I do) but she doesn't have it. And my father has at least one gene (he passed it to me) but doesn't have it. I believe mine started after back surgery and then progressed after each of my 3 pregnancies. Or maybe it was just the pregnancies. Who knows. My son also has two genes (like me) and he has it but he's...
  6. My son is going through something similar. Even if he likes a food, as soon as he finds out it's gluten free he throws it down and says "this is gross....I'm never going to be able to eat anything yummy ever again". He was just diagnosed 2 weeks ago and he's 6. I think it's the greiving process and being just plain overwhelmed. Try buying gluten...
  7. My son was just diagnosed as celiac and once we took him off of gluten his mood swings, anger, tantrums, and overall bad behaviour improved IMMENSELY. It's like flicking a switch. If he gets glutened I can tell right away by the way he acts. My daughter also had really bad pooping problems when she was 3. It lasted for about 6 months and it was the...
  8. Thanks both for the info! You know I'm still in the questioning phase where I think my symptoms might be caused by something other than gluten but boy, my body sure does know! Now it's just convincing my brain Yoplait it is!
  9. Does anyone react to Danone yogurt? I ate it for the first time today and shortly after I'm getting all my glutenning symptoms. I found some old posts on Danone but nothing recent. It does contain "natural flavours" but I read somewhere this it's gluten free. With my luck that info was probably outdated. Just checking in before I go through the...
  10. Maybe you should have your husband read through a bunch of the posts on this message board. He could learn a lot and also see that 1) every crumb counts 2) just because you didn't get "the test" doesn't mean you're not Celiac. Good luck, I bet he'll come around with some education. Just as an aside....I had terrible "gall-bladder pains" for 12 years...
  11. Some Celiacs definitely don't follow a strict diet. I found that out after eating dinner at my friend's house (who is also Celiac but has only slight reactions). After dinner I started feeling really terrible but I had only eaten a chicken and rice dish. When she went to the bathroom I took a look at the soy sauce she used and there it was. Regular soy...
  12. Yep, I'm out of state alright.......I live in Canada But for anyone else reading the post who's from Canada, the bakery was in Oakville, Ontario.
  13. Thanks Peter! I have tonnes of Kinnikinnick (sp?) products and absolutely love them but I was stoked to try Udi's bread because of all the raving reviews. My son is so picky and I'm yet to find a gluten free bread that he'll eat. It'd be nice if our selection in Canada was expanded
  14. Hello to all my fellow Cannucks!!!! Want to give a shout out from Mississauga, Ontario. And for anyone in the area, there's an awesome gluten free bakery in Oakville (on Lakeshore) called Voila Gluten Free Bakery. Their stuff is awesome! Looking forward to sharing with you all
  15. We see a Naturopathic MD for allergy testing and I know that there are lots of people there who are severely sensitive to chlorine.... They don't even drink tap water because it's chlorinated and they put something special on their shower heads to filter out the chlorine. One lady said if she showers in regular water from the tap she nearly faints by...
  16. I just trekked it over to Whole Foods only to be told that they've never even heard of Udi's. I was so annoyed that I emailed them and pleaded with them to start carrying Udi's products. I was emailed back by someone at WF and she said because of french/english labelling requirements in Canada, the fact that the bread is fresh (short shelf life), and...
  17. Hey what happened? My post ended up inside of your quote? Guess I screwed the post up
  18. Thanks for the info. You know it's funny that you mention fertility. It took me 5 years to conceive my first child (went for fertility testing, hubby was fine so it was me). Then once I was lucky enough to conceive him I had my next two kids bang bang, just like that without even trying. My suspicion is that I got lucky conceiving my son and then perhaps...
  19. I've got genetic results for both myself and my son but honestly, this stuff is flying right over my head. I was tested through Enterolab and though I understand that "two copies also means there is an even stronger predisposition to gluten sensitivity than having one gene and the resultant immunologic gluten sensitivity may be more severe" I'm wondering...
  20. I'm wondering if anyone has found that getting glutened affects your cycle. I got glutened about a month ago (by another Celiac, can you believe it?) and now I'm 15 days late. My doc ran a preg test (negative thank god..I already have 3 kids!) and my doctor even mentioned early menopause. I was shocked. Can she be serious? I'm only 36! It just seems...
  21. Wow...thanks so much for the info! You've given me hope that I can transition him more easily than I thought. I think the problem is that when I was diagnosed a few weeks ago I was trying all sorts of different gluten free products and my husband and I would always comment on how bad everything tasted. I never expected my son to end up having it right after...
  22. 100% Agree. I have three little ones and if a teacher pulled this kind of garbage with me I'd be at the principal's door with every detail. Really sounds like she should be a teacher at all!
  23. Hi, I just got confirmation through Enterolab that my son is gluten intolerant (not sure if Celiac or not but either way he must be 100% gluten free from now on). He's 6 and is majorly bummed out about the diagnosis. He's actually been really angry since we found out and I can't blame him. I found out a few months ago that I'm Celiac and have found...
