ARCHIVED Change Bowel Movement Time?
Cheryl-C replied to tehjrow's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
You didn't mention if you were eating before or after you got to work. If you're eating before leaving the house, you might want to eat after you arrive instead. For some people, eating food begins the breakdown process really quickly. -
I'm traveling to Montreal too, in October. Because we're driving, I'm loading the car with food However, it would be nice to be able to eat out with confidence. Recommendations appreciated!!

ARCHIVED Canned Tuna
Cheryl-C replied to myserenityprayer's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
To follow up on my last post...I went to the Heinz website and found a list of ALL their products that are gluten-free in Canada. I have to say, they have the absolute best website I've seen. It's so organized and clear! Anyway, I guess I misunderstood what I originally read about mustard! Also, French's claims all their mustards are gluten-free, so... -
ARCHIVED Canned Tuna
Cheryl-C replied to myserenityprayer's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Skylark, Thank you for the clarification. So for something like mayo or baked beans, the mustard included in the ingredients is ok, but I have to check yellow mustard/honey mustard for wheat? wheat starch? -
ARCHIVED Canned Tuna
Cheryl-C replied to myserenityprayer's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I meant either one. I was under the impression that mustard, period, contained gluten. I wish I could find the website where I read that, as it was a while ago and is no longer in my history. I've been avoiding things with mustard in them (like Heinz original baked beans, honey mustard, mayo, etc etc) because I thought they weren't safe. Just when I... -
ARCHIVED Canned Tuna

Just to clarify, because I'm confused: I thought that mustard was considered NOT safe for celiacs? My jar of Kraft Miracle Whip has mustard in it. -
ARCHIVED Contains Wheat But Not Gluten?
Cheryl-C replied to Cheryl-C's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Thanks, Pete! So you feel comfortable eating glucose, regardless of the source? As I said, I haven't noticed myself getting sick from it. -
ARCHIVED My Little Curiosity Poll
Cheryl-C replied to conniebky's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I voted for GI even though I also get some neuro - my GI responses are more severe than the neuro, so that's why I voted GI. I get the runs for a day, followed by constipation for about 4 or 5. Bloating, gas, rumbly gut. Not fun. On the neuro side, I get anxious, depressed, anti-social and grumpy. I also get sinus migraines, but I'm not sure which... -
Sorry Sounds like someone's going to have to take a roadtrip!

I've been gluten-free for about two months now, and last week (Thursday) I got glutened at a Casey's. I ate, and ended up with D, sinus migraine, ear pain, and general malaise. Ugh. For the next few days after that, I went from D to constipation. (The D lasted just the one day - two episodes.) I was still feeling tired, bloated (from the constipation I...

So my parents, boyfriend and I went to the Magic Oven for dinner the other night, after getting a recommendation from someone who knows a chef there. Wow. I was nervous, thinking I was about to be cc'd (what a lovely ride home that would be ) but instead, was extremely pleasantly surprised. Almost all of the items on the menu are gluten...

ARCHIVED Contains Wheat But Not Gluten?
Cheryl-C replied to Cheryl-C's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Ugh! I used to think that lack of choice was the gluten-free enemy, but in actuality, ridiculous, confusing labeling policies are! Raven, I wish we had the policies here in Canada that you folks have the States. It would be nice to have a clearer picture of what's in the food. Since going gluten-free, I've continued to eat things with glucose without... -

Cheryl-C replied to Cheryl-C's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
No, I'm in Toronto, Canada. I wish we had the same clear labels here. Or better yet: "This product contains gluten/This product does not contain gluten." Sigh. -
I had the same conversation with my boyfriend this week, out of pure frustration - "Let's just open a totally gluten-free restaurant and tell everyone else to #@%^ off!" LOL It would be nice to have more gluten-free options, but I'm happy to say that more and more gluten-free places (or at least gluten-free-friendly places) are opening up in Toronto...

ARCHIVED Georgetown Ontario (Mississauga/oakville/toronto Area)
Cheryl-C replied to LJK's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I'm in the GTA as well (Scarborough) and am glad to be finding out about local places! Thanks for the recommendation, I'll definitely be taking a look. We recently tried a restaurant called The Magic Oven, and it was awesome. Gluten-free salad ingredients, salad dressings (minus the one salad with croutons, obviously lol), pizza toppings, pizza sauce... -
I would love this! My parents (in Toronto) went to a restaurant the other day called Joey's. Apparently their menu had little "G"s beside everything on the menu that was gluten-free, "V"s for things that were vegan, etc. Because they are not gluten-free, they didn't eat anything and test for cc, but at least the menus are labeled clearly. I...

ARCHIVED Contains Wheat But Not Gluten?
Cheryl-C replied to Cheryl-C's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
So I wonder if that now means having to find out the source of the glucose before consuming? Anyone have any experience with this issue? -
ARCHIVED E.D Smith
Cheryl-C replied to Cheryl-C's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I had the same thought - they probably don't make things with gluten, considering they are a jam/jelly company. Of course, now I'm going to be suspicious of anything listing "glucose" after the issue with Western Creamery...ugh. However, as a side note, I received an email from Greaves jam/jelly company that had even better news: Hi Cheryl: Thank... -
ARCHIVED Contains Wheat But Not Gluten?
Cheryl-C posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I emailed Western Creamery yesterday to ask about their cream cheese. I got a really bizarre response, including a point that some products "contain glucose syrup originating from wheat but contains no gluten even if it originates from wheat." I thought glucose was a sugar product, not a wheat product. Now I'm even more confused than I was before. Thanks... -
ARCHIVED Peanut Butter
Cheryl-C replied to Eliza13's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I know it's an old thread, but I'm new to gluten-free living. This place is a wealth of information for those of us who are new and trying to figure out what's ok and what's not. Thanks! -
ARCHIVED Vanilla Extract - Gluten Free?
Cheryl-C replied to cupoftea's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I know this is a bit old, I just want to clarify - the ClubHouse Artifical Vanilla extract is ok? I should probably switch to natural anyway, since it's probably healthier...but I'd love to finish the bottle that's already open if it's not going to be harmful. -
ARCHIVED Peanut Butter
Cheryl-C replied to Eliza13's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I buy the Kraft crunch peanut butter (the one with the red label) - is that one gluten-free as well? -
This is an email I received from the people at E.D Smith this week. Just thought I'd share in case anyone else was curious: Dear Cheryl, Thank you for requesting information regarding E.D Smith products. We are always pleased to hear from consumers who have enjoyed our products, and are concerned that your diet now requires special needs. Our...

ARCHIVED Motts Fruitsations Apple Sauce
Cheryl-C replied to Cheryl-C's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Mango, my Canadian spelling identifies me easily, doesn't it?! Thanks for the advice, you make a good point. Isn't it strange how ingredients can change across a border? Definitely doesn't make it easier. I find a lot of the websites seem to cater to American residents, which is usually ok if the info is the same, but in case of a difference, it can... -
ARCHIVED Motts Fruitsations Apple Sauce
Cheryl-C replied to Cheryl-C's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
So according to the FAQ page, the juice is definitely gluten-free but there's no mention of the applesauce being so. Like you say, I seriously doubt there would be gluten in applesauce, but I've been saying "There's gluten in THAT?!" a lot lately I think I will email them just in case. Thanks for the link!
