  1. Does anyone know of the "Selections" brand of red maraschino cherries carried by Metro is safe? There's no wheat disclosed on the label, but I'm wondering about other sources of gluten. The label does say natural and artificial flavours (and colours, I believe) but it doesn't say what the sources are. I tried to call the customer service people but was left...
  2. I just came back from a trip to Niagara (Canada) and have some good news! 1) Niagara Falls (Canadian side) has a Milestones, a Keg (the other one is currently under construction), and an Outback! I was really sure I'd heard that ALL Outbacks in Canada had been closed, except for the ones in AB, but apparently that isn't true at all. 2) Niagara-on...
  3. I'm still waiting for it to arrive. I've been excited ever since I placed my order, so the waiting is killing me. I really hope the quality is good! This was the only place I found with gluten-free nail polish for adults - everywhere else had very child-friendly colours (bright pink, neon green, orange) and nothing I was looking for (clear, classic red,...
  4. I used doxycycline maybe 4 times a year, for a week or so at a time, for acne treatment. I've never had a gluten reaction, but it IS hard on the stomach and cause headaches, just like many antibiotics. I don't recall what brand I use, but my pharmacist checked for me and said it was gluten-free.
  5. In a word, ick. In another word, salt. We brought a box of this back with us from vacation, and I was excited! Now, having finished eating some (a few forkfuls) I feel completely dehydrated and a bit sick. Lesson learned:just because it says "gluten-free" and I'm excited about, doesn't mean it's going to be a good experience. Blech.
  6. Check out www.refreshinglyfree.com - they sell gluten-free nail polishes (and removers) on their site. I ordered some but haven't received them yet, so I can't speak to their quality. Also, I believe Sally Hansen will clearly label any gluten ingredients on their products, but I can't remember where I saw that.
  7. Count me in for aspartame headaches! Because I don't have trouble with sugar, I'd rather have a bit of sugar than aspartame or any other artificial sweetener.
  8. I eat gluten-free oats, but not by the bowlful. I use them in baking - cookies, granola bars, that sort of thing. So far I haven't reacted to them, though my stomach has so many issues that sometimes it's hard to tell. In any case, if you were thinking about eating some, I wouldn't recommend eating a huge amount until you know how your body will handle it...
  9. While looking for gluten-free nail polish, I stumbled onto refreshinglyfree.com - a site that sells some gluten-free personal products! While not all their products are gluten-free, they have a section especially dedicated for wheat/gluten allergies. They have nail polish, body washes, shampoos, and other types of items. In addition, for those who have...
  10. I had a reaction to Cheetos a few weeks ago. I was surprised, because I eat Fritos all the time with no trouble - I figured I would be ok. Sorry to hear you had trouble!
  11. I eat Kraft foods all the time. In fact, Kraft now gets the money I used to spend on PC products (and then some - ouch!) because they disclose gluten ingredients on their labels, and as far as I know, PC doesn't. I have never been glutened by a Kraft product, ever. Is it possible that a Kraft food product can make you sick? It's possible. Anything is...
  12. I was impressed with the Outback, for sure. I wasn't entirely certain what to expect, as I'd forgotten what Outback was like - they've been gone from Canada for quite a long time now. However, I was really pleased with the extensive menu, and the consideration of our server. The Lobster Pot was by far the best food experience. Even setting the gluten...
  13. Let's keep the Cape recommendations going! With a little luck, we'll be back next year. I started a new thread in the Restaurant section as a holiday wrap-up, so be sure to check it out.
  14. I just got back from my trip to Cape Cod, Mass. This was my first time going there since going gluten-free, so I was definitely nervous. Over the course of the trip, we ate dinner out 4 times. (The rest of the time we ate in, as we had rented a sort of town-house-cottage with efficiencies and made our own meals). The first restaurant we went to was...
  15. Thanks for the info! I'm going to get the list ($3 isn't bad) and I will try to check out the restaurant in Falmouth as well. Cheers!
  16. This makes me so irritated. Gluten-free, unless you have to avoid gluten ... what's the point? This is the side effect of the faddishness of the gluten-free diet, where the realy disease is overshadowed by people just "eating healthier." Peter, I couldn't agree with you more about Il Fornello's. They do a great job there! Their gluten-free pasta is fabulous...
  17. We're going on vacation for a few days to Cape Cod - it will be my first time since going gluten-free. We'll be in Provincetown, Truro, and Hyannis. Can anyone make any recommendations? I read a bad review about a place called Tiny's, and a good review of the Lobster Pot. (I remember the LP from my pre-Gluten-free days, yum!) I'm hoping there are more options...
  18. We were in the Beaches today and noticed Bagel World had a sign that said, "Gluten-Free Bagels" outside. Yay! We went in and asked, and yes - they offered 4 kinds of gluten-free bagesl, and you could either order them one by one (to eat immediately) or buy a pack of 6 to take home. Excellent. So we ordered one bagel, and the girl behind the counter asked...
  19. Is Visanne birth control gluten-free? I did some googling but couldn't find any clear info.
  20. So apparently IKEA is taking away all the food by outside people, and everything is IKEA-produced. This means their tasty Daim candy (gluten-free, made by Kraft) may or may not be gluten-free anymore. Apparently they new candies are in the store, and they're "almost the same" but as I haven't gone in-person, I haven't seen the ingredients list. Does anyone...
  21. I just got back from Teaopia, and was told that their teas are all gluten-free except for the ones with chocolate or caramel. Ok, so that's a bit of a bummer, but I'm still really excited to have a huge variety of teas/herbs to play with safely. Just thought I would pass this along, in case there are other tea-fiends out there.
  22. I went through a similar experience a while ago, and it taught me that people are insanely attached to their food. Food is emotional, social, and for some people, borderline religious. For some people, changing the food, adding/removing items from family dinners, or making special requests is just unthinkable. It's sad, but it's true. For some, the food...
  23. Maybe I'm just paranoid, but anything labelled "Seasonings" freaks me out. I know spices can be only spices, but seasonings can be all kinds of things. I know they're supposed to disclose wheat (looking forward to full disclosures everywhere!) but you never know - especially when ingredients are (I'm assuming) shipped in from elsewhere.
  24. Update: First, I should say that I meant "Dillon's" not "Diloon's" - forgive the typo! Second, I heard back from someone at the company who said they don't guarantee anything they have because the suppliers don't guarantee anything, yadda yadda. Very disappointing - I will have to find someone to eat this tasty pecan roll now.
  25. Does anyone know if these are safe? My Dad brought one home for me from his vacation and it looks great! I went on their website but couldn't find anything.
