  1. Thanks! I took your advice and tried Swiss Chalet. I got the quarter chicken with a side of steamed veggies and of course (sadly) no bun. Everything was fine and I felt great. Yesterday we ended up at a Pizza Hut - they don't have any gluten-free pizza at all. In fact, when I asked the server, she had this "what's a gluten?" look on her face....
  2. That sounds like a really good deal, except I live by myself ... my folks and my bf sometimes eat the gluten-free foods with me, but that's still a lot. Do they do ok in the freezer?
  3. "Burn off all the gluten" - wow. Sounds like someone isn't training their staff properly at all.
  4. It sounds mean, but this kind of thing I would blame on the attitudes of people who are gluten-free by choice, as in, people cutting back the carbs to lose some weight or something. I've heard people say such things, "I eat gluten-free because it's a good way to lose weight," meaning if they get cc'd it doesn't matter. It undercuts those of us who make special...
  5. Interesting! I have endometriosis and pelvic congestion syndrome. Pelvic Congestion was first diagnosed 7 years ago, 5 years ago for the endo. My gluten issues have been recently discovered. I would say it sounds like you have endometriosis, though it could also be pelvic congestion. Depending where you have it, it could cause painful periods, nausea/vomiting...
  6. I had a doctor tell me once that people are NOT supposed to eat gluten, especially in the form of wheat. Apparently human digestive systems are just not equipped for it. It may just be that some are more sensitive than others. That said, if your non-celiac boyfriend starts reducing the gluten in his diet, it's logical that he may develop an intolerance...
  7. Good for you for being so supportive! Everyone's reactions are different, and sometimes individual reactions can vary in the individual. For me, I'll usually get bloating, gurgling stomach, cramps, diarrhea or over-active bowel (lovely, I know) and really intense sinus pain. Sometimes it lasts a short time, sometimes longer. Example: Before going gluten...
  8. I've been enjoying reading the different threads about restaurants that are (or not) gluten-free, but a lot of them are in the US. I was wondering if there were any members posting who live in Toronto or the GTA and could offer me some advice? I'm new to gluten-free living, so I'm testing the waters. Incidentally, I had the gluten-free pizza from Pizza...
  9. Great idea - too bad it's only for US
  10. It's interesting that I'm not the only one with the sinus response, thanks for sharing your experiences. When I woke up this morning I still had the headache, though thankfully it wasn't as bad as it had been earlier. My stomach/bowels, unfortunately, a bit of a different story. Nothing too horrendous, but still, I've had that uncomfortable gnawing feeling...
  11. Hi there, What a great site! I've been reading some threads here and I can see a lot of you are very well-informed. What a relief, considering how many shady websites there are out there. So I've been doing gluten-free for about 3 weeks, with a couple of stumbles here and there. I've been sitting on the blood test because when my doctor gave me the...
  12. I would say that yes, there is a big connection between gluten and anxiety. I developed a rotten stomach in high school (constant nausea, constipation, etc) and at the same time developed anxiety and panic attacks. Looking back now, this was at a time when I was practically living on bagels and pizza! I was tested for lactose intolerance (neg) and sent to...
