  5. Hi Does anyone happen to have a list of what specific brands of 'regular' licorice are gluten-free? And, if so, what web site to purchase from? Thanks, Gina
  6. Just following-up on this thread...how are you doing now, Mela? I've been very busy with a move, and a visitor and some traveling. Hope this finds you well, Gina

  8. Michelle, Just keep listening to your heart...you'll make the right choices for you, at the right speed....and whatever he does in response wil be what it will be.... I know, as I just ended a 7-month relationship and the guy is now my new landlord...He is SO passive-aggressive now , it's sad...but, he can choose to be childish, and I can continue...
  9. Hi, again, Michelle - Wow..great thread...lots of great advice to you! I wanted to jump in briefly to add the titles of 4 books I think you'd benefit from (all in paperback, available on-line): 1) What Smart Women Know - lots of typos in it, but a great book 2) He's Just Not That Into You - helps you see if he is or isn't, based on specific behaviors...
  10. YEP....I plan to show the article to my family members, too...they will take 'it' more seriously, just because it got in the paper in such a 'big' way... The print version was a lot better than the web link...it included a taste-test of gluten-free pastas (they tested the long, thin versions only)....done by top chefs in SF area - Only 2 got the 'I would...

  13. Hi, Carla, The symptoms of fibromyalgia I had included: Most 'irritating' symptom: jaw pain - Note, this led to how I came to be diagnosed 'fibromyalgic'... I thought I had TMJ - temporomandibular joint disorder, so I saw a TMJ expert/dentist, who told me he thought it might be fibromyalgia, since my bite alignment was perfect on x-ray...he...
  14. Dear Carla, We are listening...you are loved here... You will receive a lot of good advice, and hear that others have had similar experiences... Many of us have also had worries that we might find out that we were dying while in the midst of our worst Celiac stages...I had vague concerns over the years that a doc would discover some sort of weird...
  15. Hi, Michelle - You've certainly come to the right place, because we all have our own stories and accompanying angst to deal with and share. Mine: I did really well for about 2 months, then I didn't want to think about gluten-free food anymore...not that I wanted any foods with gluten - I didn't...I just felt sorry for myself at that point...tired of...
  16. Hi, Tom, May I ask you why you are seeing a GI doc at this point in time? Are you having other GI symptoms that did not go away with the gluten-free diet? Gina
  17. Oh, wow... All of you are so terrific... My brief ED history: I was bulimic for about 2 years when I was in college - I had a friend who was anorexic/bulimic and when I learned that she threw up after eating, I tried it one day... Low and behold, I could do so without much difficulty - just had to bend over and will it...never needed to use fingers...

  19. Hi :-) Please send it unzipped to me, too - thanks so much! Gina
  20. Beverly - Just wanted to add my message of support - MAINLY...keep on listening to your body. I think you should, though, get the gene testing done, to be know if you can actually have 'Celiac disease,' because without one of the two ID'd genes, you cannot have 'celiac'... ...but also know that even if you don't have one of the 2 genes, gluten...
  21. You might be a celiac if.... Your answer to this joke: "Why did the lion spit out the clown?" is something like... "Because the lion had celiac and as his fangs began to clench down he saw out of the corner of his eye that the clown's hand was holding a slice of pizza ?" When the real answer is: "Because the clown tasted funny...
  22. Hi June, and WH! - You two newbies are now mixed in the same 'thread' ;- ) Thanks for the recipe, June! I LOVE coconut, so I will probbly love those cocoa cups! Feel free to e-mail me via this site, June, if you ever feel the need to talk privately with another female celiac/casein sensitive member. We certainly have some common 'stuff' to deal...
  23. Hi, June! Just wanted to add my welcome here, too... I also self-diagnosed... at the beginning of this year. I went gluten-free on my own, then ended up at a GI's office after referral from a nurse practitioner for what turned out to be an internal hemorrhoid...I told him I had heard that it was too late for him to diagnose me 'celiac' since I had already...

You have found a terrific group of people...I have learned SO much here, and wish I could add to all the info in your replies... All I know to add right now is: I'm glad for you that you learned of your illness rather quickly...i went through 20 years of mis-diagnoses...
